Beautiful Mind gets delayed, KBS schedules 4-episode drama in interim

We’ll have to wait just a little longer to see Beautiful Mind air, with KBS announcing that it’ll be squeezing in a short drama titled Baek-hee Has Returned to follow current Monday-Tuesday drama Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho.
Perhaps waiting is the point, because as much as I’d like to believe this is because KBS likes giving short drama formats a platform, I have to think it’s because Beautiful Mind just really, really needs extra time to get ready. And no wonder, given the trouble it has had finding a lead actor, pushing behind its production date with every name who considered and passed. It was given the post-Neighborhood Lawyer timeslot a while back but only now has finalized Jang Hyuk to star as the neurosurgery expert who can’t feel emotions due to a brain injury and becomes healed through the power of love. Now it’s crunch time: Filming has not yet begun while Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho is halfway through with just over a month left to air.
Enter Baek-hee Has Returned, a four-episode project based on an intriguing premise: Set on a quiet island, a woman named Yang Baek-hee, described as a Scarlett O’Hara in the past, returns after 18 years away with a new identity. That’s mysterious, and I trust that director Cha Young-hoon can make something interesting of it (or at least really really pretty to look at), having previously done the dramas King’s Face, Gaksital, and Joseon Gunman. Writer Im Sang-choon wrote the short 2014 SBS Plus drama Dodohara (aka Be Arrogant) starring Girl’s Day’s Yura.
So: Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho will run through the end of May, and Baek-hee Has Returned will begin airing on June 6. Beautiful Mind will now premiere on June 20.

I just hope Jang Hyuk made the right decision. His choices are so hit or miss but considering the names that have rejected this drama, I'd bet on this being a miss. Let's see how it goes although really, I wish Jang Hyuk starts being more pickier instead of taking up almost everything he's offered.
But back to topic, I don't understand KBS's obsession with this one. It's been on the making for yeeeears. With all the troubles, you'd think they'd give up. Oh well, it's not bad to have more shorter dramas on offer - specially when they're able to cast talented stars.

Well it doesn't mean that a drama will be a miss just because it's been rejected by others. Kill Me Heal Me was rejected by many actors before Ji Sung picked it up.

In most cases it does because there's a reason so many actors refuse to accept a script. KMHM is a widely popular example in such cases but there are in fact tons of dramas that have been rejected and was as terrible as predicted. Blood being a great example amongst many, so....

I think the reason actors rejected KMHM was because of the difficult role not the script itself. And KMHM was hit because Ji Sung did a great job playing seven characters which was intriguing to watch. Let's see if non-emoting Jang Hyuk could be intriguing, his character basically doesn't feel anything, so there's a huge chance that its a miss.

Yes, I too wish Jang Hyuk would be pickier in choosing his films/dramas (I liked him in Chuno and Thank You), but I enjoyed Sungkyunkwan Scandal so I hope this is a hit, not a miss.

The best thing to come out of JH accepting the role is that he will probably stop with that annoying laughter he's been using since forever. To me he acts the exact same way for all his characters, so I'm not too pumped about him being casted. This time seeing the character description I think it's going to be impossible for him to do so (fortunately). Even so, the potential female lead and the premise of this drama... I just don't think I'll like it.

I think I'm in the minority but I really didn't like Fated To Love You because of him. He was so weirdly crazy. He reminded me of a male version of Hwang Jung-Eum where he didn't know how to keep the comedy dialed back.
But then I loved him in the movie The Flu and the drama Chuno. So I think he will do well in this role as I enjoy him when he plays more serious or badass characters.

Jang Hyuk is still currently filming a drama in China now, I believe that KBS delayed this to fit his schedule. There had been talks of him considering this since 3 weeks ago.

Yay glad to see Jang Hyuk is confirmed! I'd like to see him in a more serious, mysterious role.
