Drama viewership ratings for the week of June 6-12, 2016

At the top of the week, we had Monster and Jackpot duking it out for first place, though surprisingly, the short drama KBS had to insert in order to give Beautiful Mind more time, Baek-hee Has Returned, pulled off some great ratings for its first two episodes. And Oh Hae-young Again keeps inching toward that coveted 10% mark… maybe next week will be the week.

Lucky Romance is doing the best out of the Wednesday-Thursday shows, though not by any huge margin–Entertainer followed close behind, along with Master—God of Noodle pulling up the rear. Doesn’t seem like there’ll be any huge shakeups in this lineup, but then again, you never know.

Over on the weekend, Mirror of the Witch is at least staying above the 2% mark, which still makes me sad since it’s such a quality show. Dear My Friends continues to perform solidly for tvN, and the other weekend shows seemed to have found their respective grooves. Five Kids continues to dominate, and likely will until the end of its run.

I'm so sad. Mirror of The Witch is just too much of a masterpiece to be overlooked like that.

Best drama of the year for me so far, consitently good with great cast, chemistry and carefully crafted plot that just keeps on surprising.
I hope people wake up and start appreciating it.

I don't know if it is a masterpiece because I left it after epi 4 because of commitment issue ( I cannot watch 2 dramas at one time) and I'm getting choosy in selecting the drama to watch. But for JTBC drama if it can be 2% at least, it is doing well. There were some JTBC dramas not even reach 2% before.

I know...
I know that even 2% are good for cable channels (excluding tvn these day ofc), but they hit 3% in Seoul last week and I thought that it would climb even higher, because in my opinion it stays on the same very high level every episode.

You should watch it if you can. But after episode's 10 cliffhanger I kinda wish I didn't start it - I'd rather wait for it to end and marathone it, cause the waiting is killing me. :)

I recommend it with all my heart, even to ones that don't normally watch sageuks (like me).

I do love sageuk, but I am quite selective when it comes to sageuk I.e the stories, the actors . For now I am just watching Jackpot ( the story is a mess) but the actors are my favorites. Will watch this later, thinking to marathon it once it finished.

The rating could be influenced by its competitor I.e Dear My Friends. DMF might be not everyone's cup of tea but t s refreshing and tvn might have more audiences.

I love the story of MOTW. Ep 9 made me laugh and cry. Yoon Si Yoon and Kim Saeron's acting is daebak. I'm not really a fan of sageuks but this drama made me a fan.

I really like ep 9-10 and I thought they'll have higher ratings.

You're not alone guys, another fan of MotW here. :D
This show is a small jewel and it does not disappoint in any way. Saeguks are not my cup of tea but I fell captivated by this one, I cannot understand why ratings are not higher. Certainly for me it is the only one that is able to catch my attention these days: unpredictable story (with some surprises in the way :P ), gorgeous cinematography and soundtrack, Yoon Shi Yoon and Kim Sae Ron being amazing and oozing cute chemistry and the rest of the cast being awesome as well, the actress playing Hong Joo is soo scary, I'm becoming a fan of hers :)
At least I hope they get recognition for this great work. :)

Yum Jung -Ah (Hong Joo) is too good. She does not have to be the first lead to steal the show.
Good comeback drama for Yoon Shi Yoon. Glad that JTBC is having a good show one after another, previously Ms Temper, now MOTW and hopefully it is consistent. We can hope for JTBC drama awards if all JTBC drama is doing well in term of rating.

I do love JTBC previous sageuks like Maids, Cruel Palace - War of Flowers (masterpiece and phenomenal) and Queen In Soo ( not finish yet but it is really awesome). Hopefully this one pick up in rating. Fusion sageuk not all doing well, but if it doing well means the writing is good (not only because of popular actors). ;)

I wonder. Ratings don't necessarily measure actual viewership. They measure how many people are watching during the initial broadcast.

It'd be interesting to get viewership reports from DramaFever and Viki. They'd help fill in the data gap left by the traditional ratings systems.

Finally started MoTW and it reminds me of "Joseon X-Files" in terms of the quality of the writing, acting, directing. production values and cinematography - simply beautiful.

And just like JXF isn't getting the big ratings since it eschews the makjang element.

"The Entertainer" is a major disappointment.

OHYA is deeply flawed, but Seo Hyun-jin totally makes it worth a watch.

But in just about every way, MoTW is the superior drama than those 2 (have also heard good things about "Dear My Friends" which is on my to watch list).

Not everyone loves sageuk, and for some sageuk loyal fans, they just cannot go with fusion sageuk and prefer the sageuk based on real history. So it might influenced on the rating in Korea. Not really sure on overseas rating.

OHY - I'm rooting for it to reach 10%. ❤❤❤

I am done marathoning Signal ( this show is too daebak, season 2 please. I'm in fangirling mode with Lieutenant Park Hae Young ❤❤❤). Now catching up with MGON. I hope these best friends will reunite and have a happy ending.

Never thought that I will enjoy BGS so much. This show gives me mix of feelings, my heart flutters with Ah Dahn Te ❤❤ Mina surpirisngly good in portraying her role.

Five Kids - Ahn Jae Wook is still love ❤ Maybe I am the only one love the main couple and dislike the other couple because lack of chemistry.?Sung Hoon is hot, wish he got better partner. Sorry for the fans because this is what I am feeling.

Watching a bit FIP - thinking to watch because want to see Go Stoo but still unable to watch JSY there. The moment she starts talking, I just feel...off. I think sageuk is not for everyone.

I don't know which part of her is sweet pumpkin. I don't want to be harsh on her, since this is first time I am watching her. same goes to other couple (Team leader's SIL). Her acting is bad. We have hotties brothers but their couple just turn me off every time.

Required fields are marked *

If I understand the translator note, the meaning of sweet pumpkin is not actually very sweet. It's more like, "this damn gourd needs a full cup of sugar before it can go into a pie".

I'm empathetic, I'm a very oblivious person in real life and frankly if Sung Hoon was flirting with me I'd assume he was just teasing me. I would pretty much need to be yelled at and kissed to believe - which means I really feel for her.

0

Required fields are marked *

Exactly, and that's her character. She's REALLY pessimistic and oblivious about dating, that's why she wasn't even able to start anything with Tae-Min.

I was really annoyed by her sulking when it was all her fault she did not get the chance, but now it's all past. She found the person who is the exact opposite. Someone who complements her: completely brazen and somehow narcissistic.

I love their dynamic and it scared me for a bit when the show teased that Jin Joo and Sang Min actually have similar likes.

0

Kuromitsu: yes! I was afraid they were going to swerve there. Thank goodness Kim Sang Min now knows half of the love square with him and his brother. (Bonus: little brother's six pack made an appearance when he spitefully took his clothes from outside the bathroom). Now we just need to get the 4 of them to all show up for couples bowling at once. That will be soooooo epic.

0

No, don't get me wrong. The character is not turn me off. The way the actress playing her character is what turn me off.

0

I'm wayicbg FIP as well and the last few episodes have been great. Love me some Go Soo. Surprisingly I feel the opposite with JSY. I think she is better in sageuk and has been doing great so far.

MOTW amazing as well. I love the story. My second fave after FIP.

Required fields are marked *

I'm not really following FIP, just watching here and there whenever I have a feeling to watch. At times, I got a feeling the PD is trying hard to make JSY looks like HHJ in Dong Yi. JSY is at least improved but far from to be a great actress yet. She needs to improve her pronounciation in sageuk and she still do not own Ok Nyeo yet, means her character can be easily played by other actress. Luckily none of the characters can eat her alive since other actors also also not really good, except Go Soo and the veterans. Anyway I had put little expectation on her from beginning, so there is nothing to be frustrated. ?

Personally I like golf couple, Sangmin's love sick moments are so hillarious. Yeontae supposed to be the opposite of Jinjoo, so I think the writer wants to emphasize her inexperience in romance. Hopefully she'll be more assertive in the relationship once Sangmin romances her long enough xD

Two couples that I find unnecessary in the drama are Mijung's ex-husband's new family + Hotae's story are just fillers now. The whole baby thing is too soon, and Soonyoung is plain *yawn*

I love SangMin, but the actress playing YeonTae made the character a bit boring. Even the one playing Jinjoo also turn me off. But it is just my opinion, everyone has different taste ;)

Actually the actress playing Soon Young was quite good in some dramas before. She did well in psycho type in Hundred Years Inheritance. Her actual husband in real life also does well in psycho / villain type. Wish she can get better roles in the future. Being a nice girl does not really suits her. LOL

I also thought she did well as Jung Joon Hoo's mistress in Love, In Between, and she was nice there (except for the whole being a mistress part). Though in fairness, I don't get how you could exchange Shin Eun-Kyung for Shim Yi-Young.

I just think the pairing in Five Children is weird because they're both not likeable enough. Ho Tae is a loser while she really has nothing better to offer herself except being pregnant.

Do I need to share with you guys, my obsession with Oh Hae Young? I don't think so! The show is doing that voodoo on me and I'm completely under the OTP's spell!

On another note, Master of Noodles is such a dark drama among feel-good shows on the same time-slot. The ratings are amazing, given the plot and the competition. I adore the cast and the story. The superb acting and the OST pull me in week after week (reluctantly, I must confess).

Lucky Romance and Gong Shim make my week, while DMF gives me glimpses of our future. No matter where we are and how we are doing today, old age is something none of us will escape (and none of us wish to, I hope). We will become grandparents, our health will deteriorate decade after decade, we will need pills and/or surgeries and so on. We all hope that we will age gracefully and our bodies and minds won't give up soon. Well, it's true, I like being in my thirties, healthy and cheerful most of the time, and I feel a bit sad thinking of the inevitable future. The drama is unique in every aspect.

Just finished watching Five Children episode 33 and in my opinion it is the best episode so far. So many plot development!

Sang-tae's mom and mother-in-law have somehow managed to move me to tears one moment, and right back to annoyance the next moment. Such is the acting prowess of moms in this drama.

Mom was so sweet when she said she's paying for Ho-tae's furniture but then her usual grumpy self returned when she asked Mi-jung to give up custody of her children.

Mother-in-law was so pitiful when she begged Sang-tae not to move out but next second she's glaring at Sang-tae, telling him to leave his children behind. 0 to 100 real quick.
(I can really sympathize with her as our family has gone through a similar situation, no begging was involved but my parents had to cry in their hearts)

I watched epi 33 too and I'm quite upset that the mothers are now using the kids as pawns to prevent the marriage from happening. totally unexpected (douche) moves from them and I can't wait to see how Sangtae & Mijung stands firm to keep their family together. Parents shouldn't really interfere with their children's decisions too much when they're past 30

The dads are actually the kind and rational ones in this drama, I love Sangtae's dad for his gentle charisma. Father in law is mellowing now, probably got freaked out by his wife's manic behaviour lol

Anyway, this is my current fave drama. The kids are so adorable too, especially Mijung's maknae daughter

Just a suggestion, I wonder if it would be better to include the timeslots the shows are in eg Jackpot, Baek Hee and Monster in 10pm slot and OHYA in 11pm. Because sometimes I do get confused as to which shows are competing with each other on the same time slot, especially with the weekend shows. From the table it would look like Five Children is competing with Flower in Prison, but I realised that Flower In Prison is competing with Gag Concert on KBS instead.

Mirror of The Witch is soooo good! I love the creepy-horror atmosphere, it's so thrilling haha. And Heo Jun's sweet gaze at Yeon-hee/Seo ri is just sooooo adorable hahaha the chemistry between the main leads is really good. Sae ron is definitely a gifted actress.

Oh and the shaman (hong joo) is sooo creepy and twisted, it's hard to guess what her real intention is, surely an interesting character.

Definitely a drama worth to watch.

Beautiful Gong-Shim is actually entertaining but i lost my interest because of gong shim's sister. She is just sooooo annoying and bitchy. She's basically your typical dramaland evil sister.
