Song Hye-gyo and Jang Ki-yong to pair up for new SBS drama

Song Hye-gyo, Jang Ki-yong

Reports have announced that Song Hye-gyo (Boyfriend) and Jang Ki-yong (Born Again) will star together in a new romance drama called Now, We Are Breaking Up. Choi Hee-seo (Forest of Secrets 2) and Kim Joo-hun (Start-up) have also confirmed that they will be joining the cast.

Song Hye-gyo plays the part of Ha Young-eun, the team leader of the design department of a fashion company. She’s a pragmatist who puts the greatest value in security and safety. She’s a beautiful woman who is disciplined about her self care and sensitive to fashion trends.

Jang Ki-yong has been offered the role of Yoon Jae-gook, a popular freelance photographer who is constantly inundated with clients wanting to book him. He has intelligence, wealth, and a handsome appearance, but his greatest quality is his ability to stay cool in his romantic relationships.

Choi Hee-seo plays the director of Song Hye-gyo’s design team and her former high school classmate. Although she’s a self-made wealthy woman, she’s also full of flaws and insecurities.

Kim Joo-hun’s character is the capable CEO of a PR firm that’s at the center of all trends. Despite his glamorous-seeming appearance and lifestyle, he’s a mature man who is pure at heart.

Written by Je-in (Misty) and directed by Lee Gil-bok (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2), Now, We Are Breaking Up will begin filming in April and start airing on SBS sometime in the latter half of this year.

I don't really trust Jang Ki-yong and his drama's choices anymore. So I'm skeptical about it...

...but his greatest quality is his ability to stay cool in his romantic relationships Is it really a quality? It sounds more like he doesn't invest himself in his relationships...

For Song Hye-Gyo, it doesn't so different from her last role in Encounter. She got rid of her in-law on the other hand.

The only good thing about MISTY was the FLs wardrobe. I was very disappointed. But ROMANTIC DOCTOR KIM was very good.

My better half, who is only two years older than me, ribs me all the time that I am far more tolerant of noona romances than any other genre of drama. I have to admit it is true -- I see nothing about this production to get excited about and plenty of reason to think it may off the rails but I will watch it anyway.

Noonan killer Jang Ki Yong. I don't think he has ever been in a drama with an actress his age or younger. That is hilarious, I will check it out.

Lol, I thought the same... apparently he is always in a noona romance. Which makes him absolutely a noona-killer 😂😂😂

Forgive me if you were trying to pretend that the disaster that was Born Again didn't exist, like many others. But unless not, his co-star there was younger..

No forgiveness necessary, I removed the 2 episodes of that drama completely from my mind, I had to google it. Yikes, she was indeed younger, one of my least liked actresses, terrible projects, worst actress. Lol😬😬

As for Jang Ki-Yong... lol dkm but is he actually good at acting or is he just tall?

He was also good in My ahjussi.
As for the rest of his dramas he just acts two ways: being tall and nice or wide opening his eyes to express fear, surprise, boredom, happiness, doubt... anything you name.

You sure about Hyena? Hope not it is because of her divorce but who knows. Maybe there are no good scripts at the moment. Anyway she read the script and liked it so... who knows what she looks out for.

Song Hye Gyo's agency said she rejected it. I have a hard time believing that. She was positively considering the role/was nearly confirmed and after the scandal broke out she wasn't "interested in the role" anymore. Either way, people are treating her as a man-eater now. For her sake, I hope this one gets good ratings

Yeah, Hyena was offered to both her and Ju Ji Hoon back in May/June 2019. I think she was positively considering it (She said the script came back to her twice with revisions), and when she finally ok'd the role, a month later or so, she stepped down from the show. Hyena went from being on KBS to SBS when Kim Hye Soo signed on. Tbh, Kim Hye Soo owned that role and it was made for her. Maybe next time, her and Ju Ji Hoon could do a hot romance in the future?

He's a good actor albeit limited like many are (no offense!). His line delivery sometimes comes across as wooden/stiff which is apparent in romance genre. He needs to tap into his Boy Next Door days, and do another comedically expressive role as a lead. Even though he's the ML here, it might be a scenario where it's actually SHK's story, and he's a side character.

The irony is that Jang Ki-yong said Jim Carrey (the world's most expressive actor) is his acting idol. Well then...either his agency is shoe horning him into one note roles for him, or he's just limited. I thought he was hilarious and emotive in The Boy Next Door, and his chemistry with Choi Woo Shik was amazing. I don't even know what occurred tbh (He was also emotive in Seonam too) since then, I think his agency/himself aren't sure what to do with his talents. I recall a MC said while he does great in dark/mysterious roles, he should pull from fellow model turned actor Kim Woo Bin (showing slyness) and Cha Seung-won (doing comedy) to be a superstar.

I love Song Hye Kyo but, honestly, I do not see anything in the synopsis that makes it stand out from other romance dramas. And also, this is an sbs drama, which is a public broadcasting channel, so they wouldn't even have any of the heavier scenes that misty had, which was a jtbc drama. So I'm not sure why such a famous actress would choose a drama which does not even have point which stands out from it's synopsis, especially when she has another drama, which has an interesting plot.

Also, isn't jang kiyong a risky choice for the drama? Because as far as I know he hasn't enlisted yet and others born in 1992 have enlisted. So he must have to go soon, before the drama starts airing. I would hate it if what happened to Let's Eat 3, happened here as well (Dojoon got called up sooner than expected, resulting in the drama to cut short by 2 episodes)

The other Gumiho drama with Hyeri is pre-produced, I believe as the pics from shooting came around in Oct. So he should be done with that show by now or soon? As for this SBS drama, they said filming will begin in April, and rom-coms aren't CGI/location heavy so this could film in 3-4 months, and he'll enlist right after he's done here. I remember Kim Nam Gil was filming Bad Guy, and said he'll enlist after it ends. Well...he had to enlist earlier than expected and the show cut 2 episodes and its ending :O Hopefully, due to the genre/filming starting next month, if all goes well, he can finish by June, and enlist then? I heard he's enlisting in August (??), so I guess he just has to hope that he doesn't happen :3

Actually maybe back in the day, dramas could be filmed in 3-4 months. But now, it takes at least 5-6 months, whether pre-produced or not, and I'm saying this for romance dramas. Coz they are not allowed to film longer than certain hours in a week to not overwork staff according to law and not to mention the pandemic. So filming will happen till september or October, but I'm guessing till October coz Song Hye Kyo is a Hallyu star, they won't rush filming, not to mention she has another drama to film as well. The only way to make sure he finishes his scenes is by pre-production, but there isn't any mention of that, and even if they do, it wouldn't be possible to air before by at least December, but most probably only next year, coz editing will take time. But, they say that the drama is going to air this year, so it most likely wouldn't be pre-produced.
Which is why I'm hoping that what happened to Bad guy and Let's Eat 3 don't happen now as well.

but his greatest quality is his ability to stay cool in his romantic relationships
So Jang Ki-yong won't have to emote then? That's a relief.

I dislike this potential pairing as much as the Park Min-young and Song Kang one. I'm just not a fan of noona romances, I guess, and these seem particularly mismatched.

I am the other way around, I really like noona romances, but well-done.

I have seen various already, and while maybe one or two were ok, most of them were meh... And at least one was a pure disaster and a waste because the otp looked amazing together (I am looking at you pretty noona 😒).
So here.... hum.... not sure. Song Hye gyo had great luck with "boyfriend", (my humble opinion), but I don't think this one could be half so good... not sure.... 🙄

I have nothing against noona romances, even love them if they are done right, but the synopsis does not sound so great to me. And SBS won't allow the drama to be daring or a little bit dark I think.

Yoo Teo and Soo Ae were such a dream pairing :(( They dropped out due to schedule conflicts and then proceed to star in other projects lmao. Well then....but Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong are a surprise pair. I think they will look hot together lol. I really Jang Ki Yong, he was amazing in My Mister and Come and Hug Me. I also liked him in Search:WWW too.

He is a really good actor imo, but sometimes his line delivery comes across as flat and monotone which in thrillers/crime fare, it works. But in rom-coms, it can be a bit off which I thought sometimes in Search:WWW, he was a bit stiff with his line deliveries. But the chemistry he had with Im Soo Jung (same age as SHK) was fiery/electric/chaotic!! Also this is his last project before he enlists (NOO!!!), so a project with the ultimate original Hallyu superstar (Song Hye Kyo) in a mature rom-com sounds fun!!

Don't get me wrong, I think SHK is beautiful, however, I would really like to see her work with a male lead that is her age or a little older. This drama along with her last two dramas, she was with a younger guy. It's getting old. She should be working with veteran (meaning skilled not old) actors.
