Drama viewership ratings for the week of Aug. 2-8, 2021
by SailorJumun
And our shows are back! Mostly! Racket Boys and On the Verge of Insanity are still getting pre-empted (after what seems like forever), but Hospital Playlist and Revolutionary Sisters did return this week, their ratings steady. Since the Olympics are ending this weekend, the regular scheduling should resume soon.
Meanwhile, both You Are My Spring and Nevertheless came in with their lowest ratings to date, with 1.9 percent and 1.0 percent respectively. And even in its final week, Monthly Magazine Home failed to go any higher than 3.0 percent. Jumping in was newcomer The Road: Tragedy of One, which premiered to decent numbers.

I generally don’t comment on dramas I am not watching.
However I have had this thought in the back of my mind
since I heard of the drama NEVERTHELESS and Song Kang’s participation as ML.
Let me go back in time to another drama and cast member (I guess 2ML) and the drama is MAD DOG (2017) (Viki US) and Woo Do-hwan.
MD a was a terrific 5 star drama. MD was my first WDH drama and he gave a great performance. Naturally I became a big fan.
When it was announce that WDH was cast as a ML in TEMPTED (2018) (Viki US) I looked at the story line and thought to myself I don’t know if this is a good fit for WDH. On the other hand I thought it must be very difficult for a young actor to turn down the offer to be a ml so be it.
NAVILLERA (Netflix US) was my first Song Kang drama and he gave a great performance. When his casting as ML in NEVERTHELESS was announced I read a synopsis here on DB of the original webtoon on which the drama is based. After reading the synopsis once again I had the thought that I don’t know if this is a good fit for SK. Looking at the character he would play I didn’t see an upside for him.
I can’t comment on his performance. I am sure he and the rest of the cast are giving it their best. I am just wonder if maybe he should have passed on this drama.

Haraboji! I loved him in Navillera, but I also love him VERY MUCH in Nevertheless! He is Jae-eon, the casting is perfect here. The character isn't lovable because he is so manipulative, but I can't picture anyone else performing better than SK here! His chemistry with Han So-hee is so on point, and I admired the casting team for this. The rating might seem very low, but it has created a lot of online buzz if I'm not mistaken. Song Kang has been given terrific and diverse roles and he has done so well in all of them I've seen him in (which are just 2 -Navillera and Nevertheless.) He is someone I call lucky, because despite being a bit green acting-wise, he accepted and challenged himself with diverse roles and he did well in most, if not all, of the projects.

I think the opposite of @mmmmm. But I never found SK really good actually. In Navillera, it was the grandparents who left their mark on me. I didn't like him in Love Alarm and When the Devil Calls Your Name. I didn't watch Sweet Home, but the opinions about his acting were positive, I think. For Nevertheless, I'm not convinced by the actors, they're pretty but I don't feel their passion for each other or their art. I watch it more for the college life.

I agree. I loved Navillera and Sweet Home and like Nevertheless, but IMO he's been the weakest part of all of them and his acting the same in each.

Why does Kumachan think differently from me? 🤣 I agree to disagree, I know it’s strange but I found him and halmeoni more convincing than haraboji actually. Dunno why.

I’ve seen Navillera, Nevertheless and Sweet Home. I thought he gave his best performance so far in Sweet Home.
