Crazy Love: Episodes 9-10

It might be against all odds, but there’s a certain ~feeling~ growing between our leads, and I have to say, the drama is really selling it. Or maybe it’s Kim Jae-wook who’s selling it. Either way, I’m buying, and this week the plot thickens not only in romance, but in backstabbing.

EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP

Crazy Love might lean 100% into the ridiculous, but it’s also doing a nice job of moving its plot along in a way that makes sense for the characters. It’s dripping in tropes and it’s also predictable… but in a way that’s also the fun. And for me, the icing on the cake is Kim Jae-wook. He’s selling it all, from the abandonment complex, to falling for his secretary, to the super exaggerated reactions and hijinks.

We pick up after the evening gown smoocheroo, which was more spicy than I was expecting it to be — and our players obviously feel the same. Shin-ah is upset, Go-jin is hot and bothered, and neither of them seem to know what they’re feeling yet. Go-jin apologizes (eventually quite genuinely) and erases her debt in order to pay her back for the lie kiss (a.k.a. the most expensive three seconds ever). But no matter how hard they try to smooth their kiss over in business transaction terms, something’s still up.

Where the drama feels quite weak is in building its backstory — only now, more than half way through, are we really getting a peek at Go-jin and Soo-young’s past love, or even of Go-jin and Se-gi’s hard-working bromancey years building up the company. In order to feel the shattering of those things as much as Go-jin does, it would have helped us to know more about these relationships earlier, I think. Instead, we just have to take the drama’s word for it.

The Soo-young storyline is ramping up, and she’s in I’ll-take-you-back-whether-you-want-me-to-or-not mode (though I’ll give her a few grains of forgiveness since she truly does believe this is just because he has amnesia). Still, I liked it better when she was less desperate femme fatale and more cool plot-disrupting unni.

Soo-young goes so far as to hint to Go-jin of their past, to try to win his heart back by demanding dates, and to threaten to tell Shin-ah about their past relationship. Go-jin doesn’t seem to care (still so wounded from her “noble” abandonment of him), and I don’t think I do much either.

Slightly more compelling is the Se-gi storyline, where we’re now seeing him hatch and carry out all of his backstabbing plans. My initial disappointment over him being the bad guy has faded, because I like how it’s evolving into a game of cat and mouse. Except ye olde mouse (Se-gi) doesn’t know the cat is onto his game.

Genius Go-jin quickly catches on (with the watch face as the starting point), and even though we see a lot of Go-jin playing Se-gi’s game, I also like that the drama takes the time to show us how this affects him emotionally.

While Se-gi is busying BSing in Go-jin’s office, Go-jin says abruptly, “I saw you.” He means the night of his hit-and-run, but plays it off as something else — even as we hear his internal monologue about how betrayed he feels (and rightly so). Later, he even quietly weeps in the wake of this betrayal, and it’s not only a strong emotional moment for Go-jin’s character, but we see him relying on Shin-ah for comfort, even if it’s just holding her hand for a minute.

And so, slowly but surely, Go-jin realizes — and we along with him — that Shin-ah is the only one that’s stood by him all this time. Even when things started off as a mere revenge game between the two, she always acted out of concern for his well being, and we’ve seen that over and over again. Shin-ah herself might not even understand it, but as we reach the romantic awakening arc of our story, she’s even more conscious of him, and he of her.

For instance, Shin-ah knows when it’s his grandmother’s memorial anniversary, and prepares the entire thing; and for Go-jin, even when he faces another murder attempt, it’s his savior Shin-ah that he’s worried about first. Basically, their actions are revealing how much they care about each other, and now it’s just time for their brains to catch up.

Go-jin realizes it first, and right along with his personality, finds all these petty reasons and excuses to keep her around him at all times. When she’s gone, he feels her absence keenly, and it’s something we can pick up on too: when Shin-ah is around he has a home-cooked meal and warm companionship; when she’s gone it’s all echoey house and cold cereal for dinner. (Side note: How fun to have a K-drama heroine that can cook for a change!)

This week’s episodes were enjoyable because of the phase of romance we’re up to, and all the fun tropes we get as a consequence of that — like my personal favorite, when the couple is forced into close proximity in an elevator. But the tropes don’t stop, and Go-jin also saves Shin-ah from the flour bombs of his angry high school fangirls. He also talks to the potato that he’s now befriended and situated on his desk — as talking to inanimate objects is another common behavior for K-drama heroes in love.

The other high note for me was how the Se-gi plot line so quickly escalated after we see him get suspicious of Go-jin really having amnesia. This is actually quite necessary for the plot, because it’s getting to the point where Se-gi relying on Go-jin’s amnesia to get away with his evil plotting is a bit silly. So, Se-gi needing to test this not only legitimizes his villain status, but ups the ante in their battle.

Se-gi prepares the ultimate test of Go-jin’s amnesia: he offers him a peach slice, which Go-jin is actually deathly allergic to (and only a few people know this). Go-jin has a moment where he has to decide what to do, and it’s quite true to character that rather than expose himself to Se-gi, he chooses to eat the peach and go into anaphylactic shock.

The conclusion is that Se-gi is completely convinced of the amnesia, and Go-jin is completely sure that Se-gi is his attempted murderer (also that keeping his amnesia cover is essential until he can expose Se-gi).

Sadly, the other conclusion of this deadly peach slice is that even though the faithful Shin-ah is at his side yet again, Go-jin’s self-preservation instinct kicks in. He’s been abandoned by every other person in his life, and so rather than have that repeat with Shin-ah — which he believes is inevitable since he’s falling in love with her — he cuts her loose. As in, torn up contract, get out of my life, “You’re fired!” sort of cutting loose.

Luckily the drama doesn’t leave us hanging on this note for more than about five minutes. Shin-ah is inexplicably sad even though she tells herself to rejoice that the whole scenario is over. Meanwhile, Go-jin is grieving her departure from his life and household… but then he finds the diary she accidentally left behind. He reads something there that makes him bolt out of the house to find her. And when he does find her — in his office saying mental goodbyes, no less — he won’t let her leave. “Let’s date,” he says. Swoon~

Not to jinx anything for this drama and the level of satisfaction I felt with this week’s episodes, but what I’m dying to see happen is Go-jin and Shin-ah join forces and plot a counter-plot against Se-gi. I’m not sure if Go-jin thinks she’s terminally ill now, or if he just realized her sincerity, but either way this show managed to convince me that we need them together, stat.

I think he thinks she's terminally ill and probably wants to make her happy before she dies. Kind of like Thirty-Nine but less depressing because no one is actually dying 🤣. Can't wait for the over-dramatic hijinks when one party is overly loving and the other is just confused lol.

I'm quite sure that's what he thinks, that's also the route i had envisioned the moment she lost her diary and wanted to see if the writer goes this path and it does...Curious now how long will it take for him to find out the truth...And she isin't even lying to him LOL
The reveal,if we can say that wasn't much of a twist as i'm sure most of us suspected Se-gi is the one behind them all but curious if the one who wants to kill him is also sent by him or another one with a personal vendetta working solo...

I've only seen ep. 9 as of right now, and really loved it. This is what I wanted from ep. 8. Great to see Shin-ah standing up for herself again and also to watch Go-jin be himself but with less of the overt dickishness.

Loved the pillow fight!

I just love this drama more and more as i tune in each week 💜 It had a bumpy start but the plot is coming together nicely.

I also love how true to the drama’s name it truly is a crazy love story. I couldn’t hold my laughter in during that random hair pulling/pillow fight. They were both so hilarious and the chemistry was top notch.

Boy am i glad he read that diary because i couldn’t bear to see them separated as the fun is them being together, whether it’s romantic or just pure bickering. I like that this drama made the romance slow burn and i can’t wait for them to officially date and be open about their feelings for each other, and yes take Se gi down big time.

I'm really surprise that this drama giving a little surprise every episode that makes me want to watch next eps.
It's really give me a hard time in the early episodes but now I'm hooked!

I'm glad Sin'ah back again to be 'taugh' girl.. that pillow fight though LOL

I agree that drama taking too long to tell the back ground story but that makes me really love this week eps. We now understand why Gojin becoming like now and I can really feel how Gijin feels betrayed by Segi, they have wonderful old days but why Segi berayed him? Will this drama keep it until last eps??

I love seeing Gojin finally realize his felling for Sin-ah and how became an idiot hero XD .. and not it's time for Sin-ah to fully realize her felling towards Gojin

Side note:
I knew I should've trust Kim Jae Wook for his choises of drama. In the early eps, I keep asking myself why he chose this work and feels disappointed. I feel it's a big waste of talent but I'm completely wrong!! This week eps prove that he is really a great actor and this drama is unpredictable. I'm sorry I misjudge you! lol

I feel the same! I should have trusted KJW as well and I can tell he is having so much fun with this character and most of all he feels extremely different to his previous characters so I’m so glad glad he chose No Go Jin as his comeback drama.

Oh my...I literally was thinking the same thing after watching the recent episodes that I would never ever question his drama choices anymore. He knows what he wants and what he is doing. It's jsut bad timing that this drama started a week later and epi 1 was a bit wacky BUT I now love this drama. It's allowed KJU to showcase his acting versatility so well.. there is so much depth in his character and he is portraying it so well. I don't think any other actor can carry it out as well as him.. or I don't think any actor would dare take on a character this unlikable in the first place. How does KJU always make people end up loving him more and more?

And yes, I can tell he is having so much fun on set with this character. I hope it continues to get more attention because the world needs to know!

And hope he has a new project soon.

I find usually with dramas they start out really well and slowly decline but this one seems to be getting better as it goes along?

I agree that the pacing of feeding out backstory between Go Jin and Soo young and Go Jin and Se Gi hasn’t been that well done, so it was nice to finally get some.

I love a male lead talking to a symbolic potato (see also Dokko Jin in Greatest Love), made me laugh when that showed up. 😄

I am quite curious about why Se Gi wants to get rid of him. Just greed? Watching Go Jin eat the peach to “prove” he had amnesia was so stressful.

I hope it's not just greed and that there is more backstory to it. Given the storyline and writing so far, I think there is more to why he is doing all these things.

The romance plot is now taking over the revenge plot, I just hope that it be as quirky. Go-jin and Shin-ah are funniest when they are having a big argument, the pillow fight is one of the best I have seen. I would not be surprised if Krystal was not just pretending to pull out Jae-wok's hair.

I am also pretty sure that he thinks that she is terminally ill. While it may make sense for him to date her for real now, he may find it rather difficult to convince Shin-ah of his sudden change of personality. With 6 more episodes to go, there is plenty of room for more hijinks.

I have always thought of Se-gi as the villain, but what he wants to achieve is not obvious at all.

I'm still not done with ep 10 but, thank you, @missvictrix, for the weecap! I saw how Gojin realized Shina's sacrifices at the end of the episode and am so looking forward to changes in his character. I loved the pillowfight!

Breaking out of my long-time lurker silence to comment here, so sorry if this is long and rambly!

One thing I love about this drama is that it doesn't linger on the mysteries. Whether revealing the fake amnesia, Se-gi as the villain, or Go-jin realizing (and admitting!) his feelings for Shin-ah, the plot just zips along. Add in the great character development, the fantastic chemistry between our leads, and the slow burn hate-to-love fake-turned-real romance (my favorite trope!), and this is shaping up to be a potential favorite. Despite, like a lot of viewers, my feeling lukewarm toward it at first. So glad I stuck with it! It really does get better every episode.

I do agree we could've gotten more of our past bromance earlier in the story. I don't mind that the show let Go-jin be his ass-y self without any excuses or explanations, so we'd warm to him slowly as his past is gradually revealed, but more on the friendship would've made Se-gi's betrayal and Go-jin's reaction more impactful.

Also I hate the ex-girlfriend. And not in a fun love-to-hate her way. I just find her presumptuous and kinda pitiful. Like, lady let it go. It's been 12 years. People move on. They change. And the fact that she's taking advantage of his supposed amnesia is just icky. Especially where she's willing to destroy his current relationship and emotionally blackmail him to get what she wants. Yuck. Though I do appreciate Go-jin being quick to draw boundaries, despite his lingering feelings. Often in dramas the male lead comes across as wishy-washy toward the ex to be nice or whatever. When he was about to have that dinner with her I was thinking 'oh no, here we go...' only to have camera pan out to them sitting in that cheap looking restaurant... I legit LOL'd. I guess it helps that Go-jin isn't a nice guy haha.

I do hope the next episodes focus more on Shin-ah though. I feel like her goals have (understandably) been pushed aside to focus on her impending death/revenge plot/debt while we got all this development for Go-jin. As much as I'm loving the romance I'd like to see her move forward with her life outside of him. Though I do love where the relationship is now. It'll be nice to see them on more equal footing - where he isn't her boss and she's not obligated toward him because of the contract. Even if it wasn't his motivation for doing so, I appreciate that he removed that power imbalance before asking her to date.

But seriously, I never thought a simple 'let's date' could make me swoon this much :D Especially where I was totally expecting him to make up some bull excuse to keep her close again. Can't wait for next week!

I can do without the secretaries and most definitely could have done without the teenage assaulters. But then again, this entire series is all about being extra with the kdrama troupes so I will have to accept them for what they are.

Se gi is becoming a true blue villain and I am here for all of it. And Soo young really is a waste at this point. She will bring nothing to the table when she and Se gi get together, whether as a couple to make Go Jin or plotting.

The hair grab, I thought was a dream Si nah was having and the next scene was just be her standing there. Nope, she went for it and then the pillow fight and I busted my gut laughing.

And Kim Jae wook does face so well. His face as he was being hit with the pillows were *chefs kiss*.

I really love this romcom with its chaotic love story. One of the funniest and best pillow fights I've seen in a while ̶o̶r̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶?̶
It's gets a lot love and appreciation from me.

my favorite scene of the two episodes was when she finally fought back and a epic pillow fight ensued. I was laughing so hard at that point. Over all I like the pacing of the drama, and i love how things are beginning to come to a head.

I enjoyed the chaotic moments between the leads. Shin Ah's temper was a welcome sight. And that pillow fight must be my fave on ep9!!! 😆😆😆

Everything was subdued on ep10 but at least we are seeing more of thr backstory between GoJin and Segi. I can't believe Segi let him eat that peach knowing his allergies. Horrible horrible.

I like how the story is progressing and hopefully this means GoJin and Shin Ah will join forces to destroy their enemies. I really like it when they bicker and Shin Ah fights back so hopefully we do not lose that.

This week was pretty satisfying. There were a lot of compelling moments.

Soo Young, Se Gi, and Ms. Ma all still annoy me with their selfishness and evilness. But now that Se Gi is fully showing his betrayal, it shows how well Go Jin reacts. Kim Jae Wook nailed his heartwrenching scenes. The peach scene was so sad. Se Gi was freaking despicable.

Se Gi might be after the company or has greed/jealousy or another reason, but I feel like the attempts to physically harm Go Jin were done by someone else.

Didn't it seem like Soo Young was lying about her birthday? This was a minor detail that stuck out to me. It was weird that she had used it as a reason for the dinner plans when she also used Go Jin & Shin Ah's engagement celebration which should be enough. And if it was truly her birthday, doesn't she have friends that she would rather celebrate with?

The epic pillow fight looked so fun and cathartic!!

I would like to see Go Jin and Shin Ah join forces too. I liked their teamwork before and now like during the special lecture.

Go Jin is convincing me of his attraction to Shin Ah. I just don't feel it as much on her end. In her shoes, I'd be bewildered about how he's been acting and changing. I don't know if I can get over the power imbalance.

I hope Shin Ah didn't leave the tore/ripped contract there, bcause you know what happened in dramas when the main leads just left ripped/burned documents.

Another two wonderful episodes.. slowly but surely we are seeing more character development in NGJ. He's fallen for Shin-ah so hard already and doesn't even realize it 🤭. Loved the pillow fight ..totally didbt expect that and I am glad Shin-ah finally fought back. That pillow fight is going down in history. Thanks for continue to keep that crazy in the show.

Fun aside, things got very emotional very NGJ in epi 10 and Kim Jae Wook delivered everything so flawlessly. From confronting his ex, betrayal and pain of Segi giving him peaches 😡, his fears of loneliness, letting Shin-ah go and then realizing he can't let her go. It was a emotionally packed episode 10. I jsut love every episode more and more.

I love how this show keeps getting better by each epi whereas many dramas tends to fizzle off middle to end.

Really looking forward to Mondays/Tuesdays now. I don't think Shin-ah will accept NGJ so we will have to see what he does going forward to win her heart. I still think that Segi is not the main culprit; I really want his backstory on why he is doing this to NGJ 😭

I love seeing KJU all mellow and sad 😂 so much depth in his acting .. maybe he should do meloromance next 🤭
