  • JTBC finally has some movement on Youngest Son of a Chaebol Family, which stars Song Joong-ki (Vincenzo), Lee Sung-min (Juvenile Justice), Shin Hyun-bin (Monstrous), and Yoon Je-moon (The King’s Affection) among many others in a large ensemble cast. The fantasy period piece is set in the late 1980s and also has SNSD’s Tiffany Young making her drama debut in a supporting role. Broadcasting later this year, PD Jung Dae-yoon (I’m Not a Robot, W-Two Worlds) is at the helm with Kim Tae-hee (Designated Survivor: 60 Days, Sungkyunkwan Scandal) and Jang Eun-jae co-writing. • There’s also news on Netflix’s historical thriller Gyeongseong Creature, which takes place in the spring of 1945 – just before the end of World War II. The lineup includes Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class), Han So-hee (Soundtrack #1), Soo-hyun (a.k.a. Claudia Kim) (Chimera), Kim Hae-sook (The Queen’s Umbrella), Jo Han-chul (The Law Cafe), and Wie Ha-joon (Little Women). Launching in 2023, scripts were penned by Kang Eun-kyung (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2) with directing by PD Jung Dong-yoon (Stove League). [News1]
  • Another poster has come out for MBC’s May I Help You, featuring our ghost-whisperer Hyeri (Moonshine) along with errands-master Jun (a.k.a. Lee Jun-young) (Let Me Be Your Knight). The fantasy rom-com will be coming to our screens next month on October 19, in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. [MBC]

  • Kim Yoo-jung (Lovers of the Red Sky) is in talks to join Ryu Seung-ryong (Kingdom 2) and Ahn Jae-hong (Be Melodramatic) in a new Netflix series called Dakgangjeong, which is a sweet and spicy fried chicken dish. The mystery-comedy is based on a popular webtoon by the same title and has filmmaker Lee Byung-hun (Be Melodramatic) as the talent behind the camera. Filming is scheduled to begin in November. [Hankyung Kyungje]
  • Kim Jung-hyun (Mr. Queen) and Im Soo-hyang (Doctor Lawyer, Woori the Virgin) have been confirmed for MBC’s next fantasy The Season of Kkok-du. Slated to air in the Friday-Saturday slot, filming is currently in progress with production led by a team of four: PD Baek Soo-chan (Alice) and PD Kim Ji-hoon (Check Out the Event), along with Bad Detective writers Kang Yi-hun and Heo Joon-woo. Directed by PD Kim Jung-hyun (At a Distance, Spring Is Green) with writing by Kim Ji-hee and Im Jin-sun, the rom-com will be coming to our screens on November 4. [KBS]
  • A cozy poster has been released for TVING’s Yonder, featuring our main couple Shin Ha-kyun (Unicorn) and Han Ji-min (Our Blues) – which is giving me flashbacks of when the two were paired in the old 2003 drama Good Person (good times!). The sci-fi drama will be launching on October 14 and will be available on both TVING and Paramount+. [News1]

I'll probably check out all these shows, but...

"Youngest Son of a Chaebol Family" is a horrible title -- sounds like every kdrama ever. But the cast, writer & PD sound promising. Especially the PD.

How appropriate that "Fabulous" and Chae Soo-bin show up in the same sentence :)

Awful title, I agree, but I’ll still take that one over the English translation title Reborn Rich.

Finally some news on 1.
I really like the casting for 2 but the time setting isn't it for me.
And yes, the poster for Yonder is cozy☺️.

1 and 2 look interesting.
3 will be Hyeri's show, she can act only one type of character...
4 sounds so weird
I think I will pass 5, I don't specially like the actors and the PDs can't choose good scripts (Alice, The Girl Who Sees Scents, Reunited Worlds, Check out the Event)
6) I completely missed the fact Chae So-Bin made a movie! I'm excited.
I'm not decided for 7 yet.

Why is DB not talking about KSH confirming her new drama? It’s literally been 1.5 years since her last drama but there is zero mention about her casting news. Especially since it’s the PD of TKA, GS, BI and MND. That’s huge.

Lots of interesting shows in this bite...

Will I suffer time travel-esque reincarnation for Carrot Boy or will I give it a pass? Lol.

Just read about Gyeongseong this afternoon, which had more character descriptions that listed here- gonna get dragged by Han So Hee fans for this but just because she was in My Name doesn't make her automatically a brilliant action actress and the must go to pick for this kind of stabby role and if I decide that it's the kind of thing I want to watch, I am, ahem, not really looking forward to that part of it. Sigh. On the plus side the time setting is uncommon for Korean screen content of any kind and also, Wi Ha Jun, which are draws.

*please let One Hundred Won Butler/ May I Help You be the fun kind of morbid fantasy show please*

Can Chae Soo Bin go back to being paired against male counterparts that can actually match her acting level, please? Lmao. I mean I'll start it at least, but uhm Minho didn't exactly leave much impression on me Hwarang...

You must suffer for Carrot boy with me for at least 4 episodes. 😂 I don't care much for the FL, but Lee Sung-min is fabulous, and Yoon Je-moon is the evilest bastard you'd love to hate.😈

My first thought about "Dakgangjeong" was that director Lee Byung-hun is one hot dude. Second, Ryu Seung-ryong doing comedy with a serious face is the best thing since fried chicken. Third, I loved "Melodramatic" and Lee's other wacky films. Fourth, Yoo-jung can be as noisy as she can with this type of show.😀

I love Shin Ha-kyun, but he has often been paired with younger female leads; it's starting to creep me out.

1. I didn’t know this was set in the 80s. That just makes me even more excited. Song Joong-ki has a knack for choosing bizarre-sounding projects I end up loving. I hope it’s more of that and less like DOTS. The writer + PD gives me hope.

2. Another drama with a time period I want to see. This is a very underrepresented time setting in kdramas so this is very exciting for me. The cast is also fantastic, but shouldn’t Wi Ha-joon be out of secondary male lead purgatory by now? I know it’s a high-profile ensemble but come on.

3. Again, not sure about the show but they got some nice posters.

4. Those are three very different actors at play, but I’d trust the PD of Be Melodramatic with any drama.

5. I’m as excited about Kim Jung-hyun’s return to dramas as anybody, but everyone after him involved is a cascading lineup of disaster. Not a single trustworthy figure in that crowded foursome.

6. What if Now, We Are Breaking Up, but millennial. Okay jokes aside, Chae Soo-bin deserves leading men who are actually on her acting calibre. Minho is gorgeous and immensely talented as a kpop star, but even I, a diehard ShaWol, admit that Chae Soo-bin will be acting circles around him and that’s just embarrassing to watch. Hell, I’d argue Minho isn’t even the best actor in SHINee (hello Key!). I don’t know why this has been a trend for her since Yoo Seung-ho and Jung Hae-in, but it has to stop. She’s too good for this! Will all this complaining stop me from checking this out though? Absolutely not!

7. Another TVING feature? Greaaat… And Paramount+??!? What in the fresh hell is that?

Regarding 1, I think it's set in the 80s and the 2020s - past life and reincarnated life? Though it'd be cool if it's set entirely in the 80s too - there's something special about k-dramas and movies set in that era. And who knows we may get Bollywood reincarnation movie levels of camp à la Karz and Kudrat.

Agree! Both historical and fiction.
One of these days, I'll finish watching "Rustic Period."(124 episodes) 😢

Rustic Period has been on my list for at least 5 years but the episode count is too daunting 😅.

The split timeline might be correct! Though I agree with you that it’ll be cool if it were an entirely 80s drama. Kdramas aren’t quite so insane (yet) to go near Bollywood reincarnation tropes. That would be… something.

Also you just reminded me I haven’t seen Karz yet, so thanks for that.

Lol I think the only reincarnation k-drama that came close to Bollywood levels of craziness was Born Again. Both Jang Ki-yong and Lee Soo-hyuk were done so dirty by that show!

But Born Again fueled my Jang Ki Yong Cinematic Universe joke so it's fine. (I didn't actually watch it though lmao)

Hmmmm I think it's the other way around. The article said something like, at death's door he goes back to 1987 as the chaebol family's youngest son... ?

Oh interesting. That should be fun - for him to get a do-over knowing what he knows about the future.

Even Onew is a better actor than Minho in Shinee lmao. I don't think Taemin has ever acted lol, and Key is obviously, by far the best. She acted circles round almost everyone in Rookie Cops too and I'm just like, hunny, whyyy.

I honestly don’t get why Onew doesn’t do dramas post-DOTS because I remember thinking from that time that he had real talent that could be improved if he kept working in more supporting roles. I know he was supposed to be in Age of Youth 2 prior to his controversy, but since that issue got resolved, what gives?

Taemin did try acting in some random jdrama one time and it went disastrously (amazingly for the fandom’s meme collection). Thankfully he chose to stick with only being kpop’s best male solo artist.

Ya I also thought he had acting chops potential. Oh well :/

Oh he DID?! Lmao I can imagine the memes right now. Taemin is so meme-able 🤭
"kpop’s best male solo artist." the sudden throwback URGE to be annoying about this statement because of my own musics tastes LMAO- but I agree Taemin should just stick to what Taemin does best lel.

Taemin acted in Dating Agency: Cyrano, where he played an idol.

Was Hwarang the last drama you saw Minho in? I'm not saying he's a good actor, but his character in Yumi's Cells was so lovable, and he was the only character I cared about in Lovestruck in the City, which I hate-watched.

1

@panshel omo Surprise Acting Taemin is everywhere! I confess I didn't look up his credits before commenting; was it obvious? lol

Hah. Yes. It was. Because I either was not at all interested in anything he's been in since (allergic to Yumi's writernim) or I dropped (Lovestruck, ep 2). He doesn't make me at all excited paired against CSB :/

2

@sicarius: Hey, just expressing my opinion as a diehard ShaWol 🤷🏾‍♀️. I have to go with either Taemin or Key for that statement and Taemin has just done more solo work.

@panshel: Minho was fine in Yumi’s Cells, but it was a brief cameo appearance where he basically just had to be nice and charming. That’s just default Minho to me so I can’t say I was impressed by his acting specifically. Haven’t seen Lovestruck so I can’t comment on that.

0

@ladynightshade 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but ofc you must. I understand 🤭

Default Minho. Lol. It's true tho.

2

talk about pretty coupling -- Minho and Chae Soo Bin??? both so cute, i must watch, i hope it's good...
