PSA: How and where to chat about a drama that’s over or not being covered

Hi Beanies! We have noticed a lot of you looking for a lively discussion space for dramas that we’re either not covering live, or have covered only with a single episode review. There’s a place for that!

To discuss dramas from 2022 and earlier:

  • Step 1: Navigate over to Dramas and scroll or search for your desired drama.
  • Step 2: Click on the drama to bring up its individual landing page.
  • Step 3: Click on Discussion (previously Reviews) to chat! This is an open discussion space that is exists for every drama, and every Beanie.

To discuss dramas from 2023 and onward:
You can either use the above method, or navigate to the drama’s individual Drama Hangout. That’s right, moving forward, each drama we’re not fully covering will have its own Hangout — so you can, uh, hang out there and chat. Here’s how:

  • Step 1: Navigate to Dramas and scroll or search for your desired drama.
  • Step 2: Under the drama’s title card you’ll see Recaps, Discussion, News, and Cast. Under Recaps, you’ll see the drama’s individual Drama Hangout page, where you can hang out and comment about the show whenever you like. (Note: These comments will also appear under Discussion, so there are two ways to access the chat comments.)

*Special bonus: Going forward, you can also access a drama’s individual Drama Hangout from the drop-down menu where you’d normally toggle through episode recaps.

Does this mean that there is no longer a space for spoiler-free reviews? Just curious if they have moved elsewhere or been replaced. Thanks!

@jls943 Technically the review and general discussion comments are now merged under "Discussion," but we are open to continuing the Beanie Review posts if people find them useful and a good resource! Please do comment if so.

I did really like having a review section in addition to discussion for dramas. I've often used Beanie reviews to help choose which drama I'm going to watch next, and it's nice if they are giving overall impressions and thoughts without spoilers so that I can make an informed decision without ruining any twists and turns.

Especially as someone who's only been aware of dramas for the past year and a half, I have a lot of catching up to do, and my watchlist is forever long, so reviews often help me narrow things down and make priorities of things I really don't want to miss. I also like writing them! Sometimes I don't know quite how I feel about a drama until I start trying to write a review about the whole thing, and I have to think back about it in its entirety.

I understand if the decision is to let them go, particularly if they are not widely used, but those are my thoughts - I would be a little sad to see them go completely!

I agree a spoiler free review is helpful but it is surprising how few there are for dramas that it is clear have been widely viewed.

I think with the number of lurkers who use Dramabeans to get insights into the dramas to watch it would be a shame to lose the feature. hHwever, having a space to discuss dramas not covered by weecaps allows for more feedback on the lesser known dramas and people may well appreciate that.

This is a great feature - thanks! Slightly OT, I wonder if there are ever updates to the brief header blurb for each show after it ends because they're sometimes extremely misleading in hindsight. To give a recent notorious example, the one for Summer Strike says:

Burned out by life, a young woman declares herself on a life strike and goes to stay in the countryside to enjoy the ultimate luxury: time. There she befriends a young man who works at the local library who's also going through a period of change in his life.

Replacing the second sentence with something like this wouldn't be a spoiler but would give a prospective viewer a much better idea of what they're in for:

There she encounters a mysterious young man and an unexpected reception from her new neighbors as they face trauma rooted in the past.
