Drama viewership ratings for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2023

Brain Works and Trolley return to quiet numbers after Lunar New Year preemptions last week, while Missing ends at almost 6% (not too shabby). As we have come to expect, the mid-week slots are super quiet, with the big bang happening in the weekend. Here, Payback, Agency, and Crash Course in Romance keep in double digits territory, while Kokdu struggles to gain an audience.

The drastic difference in numbers between start and end of the week, damn. It seems Kkokdu is destined to struggle in everything - it was rather predictable and somewhat fair, but still stings... Next week's statistics are gonna be interesting for sure.

I think what stings about Kkokdu is not the ratings, but rather that thus far its squandering its humorous/fantasy premise. This is a rare time when I feel the ratings are justified.

Its clear, though that Strangers Again should have been set in the Joseon era. The Joseon Marriage Agency has gotten a lot of attention. But what about the Joseon divorce attorneys?

I've seen hardly better dramas becoming hits, so... Weak writing certainly did its part here though.

Poor guys would've end up jobless because divorce as we know it was not a thing back then. The only way to get out of unwanted marriage was a bloody one - literally. Poison sellers were in huge demand, I suppose. When will we have a drama about those hardworking people?)))

Yes, I know divorce wasn't permitted in the Joseon era, unless, I suppose like with the Catholic church in Europe, there was a special dispensation. But that's why Joseon psychiatry was such a thriving business, providing therapy for the unhappily married.

#onlyinkdrama, I'm afraid))) Max amount of real Joseon's psychiatry was probably made of calming tonics and "read some sutras" advices. At least unhappy husbands could take concubines (or visit gisaengs) to comfort themselves, but no such thing for poor wifes, only good ol' (and deadly punishable) adultery and/or husbandicide.

@Gikata and @hacja
I wanted to thank you for this great conversation...interesting to know. I wonder if this is in part the genesis of the common SK Drama fixation on 1st love - and why it is so often portrayed with such possessive undertones.

Sadly it is not just those 2, the signs of being trapped unhappily married showed in most cultures. Here, for much of the 20C women's use of an across the counter powerful analgesic mix was so wide spread it became part of the vernacular "a cup of tea a Bex and a good lie down". Bex was an addictive mix that in addition to the codeine, Aspirin, phenacetin, each dose also had 2x the caffeine of red bull. You can imagine what the effect of this self medication was when it had usage pattern not dissimilar to cigarettes with significant numbers of taking up to 30 or 40 a day.

The veterans still dominate the ratings, from Missing 2 to Payback to Crash Course in Romance.

I am still surprised by the numbers for CRASH COURSE IN ROMANCE.

THREE BOLD SIBLINGS is now posting decent numbers for a weekender.

Yay! I'm happy that Crash Course in Romance is doing well. Judging from the promos, I didn't expect to love it as much as I do.

I'm so happy for Payback and Crash Course in Romance! It's sad Trolley didn't get more love (last week was WILD), but at least it has loyal fans.

Agency seems to be the strongest show rn. Even when it is competing with Payback and CCIR it hits double digits. Dang. Now I'm really curious about this show.
