Premiere Watch: The Heavenly Idol

Reasons to watch: I’ve been a fan of Kim Min-kyu long before he made massive waves in Business Proposal, so it’s ridiculously satisfying to see him in his first leading role. And it’s an interesting pick, too — the adaptation of the web novel High Priest Rembrary is a fantasy rom-com with body swap elements set in the world of K-pop. Kim Min-kyu is an other-worldly priest who descends to earth to defeat a foe, but finds himself in the body of a K-pop idol. And not only that, but the “visual” of a group that’s failing hard. I mean, there’s a ton to work with right there. And I don’t want to set expectations too high here, but the crazier the premise sometimes the more delightful the drama — You’re Beautiful comes to mind (and could use a worthy successor that can match its zaniness level). As ever, it’s all about the execution, but my money is on Kim Min-kyu’s performance being worth the watch.

TL;DR: Kim Min-kyu’s much-deserved first mainstream leading role, web novel adaptation, other-wordly-priest-turned-Kpop-idol

I’m mad as just checked Viki and not licensed in my region but the crappy Kokdu is. Go figure! Viki is terrible in so many ways for some of us not in North America. This is cultural deprivation, I tell you!

True- but counterbalanced by the cruelty of Disney+ locking up good Kdramas and refusing to air them in North America. (example: RED HEART)

I am in North America and it is already on my Viki Watchlist- with the first episode scheduled for today (which may actually be tomorrow the way that Viki does things- never forget that their servers are actually in Singapore).

But this is not his first leading role. He was the ML in that terrible Sageuk where he was so wooden and just seemed - pardon me for getting scatalogical - looked constipated!😂

Aww, no apologies necessary and your words are not harsh. Besides, I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I enjoyed (?) the drama, it was passable, but KMK did look stiff.
