Kim Min-kyu bargains with his body-swapper in The Heavenly Idol

The newest teaser for tvN’s upcoming body swap comedy The Heavenly Idol has dropped, and it wastes no time showing us the sassier side of our priest-turned-idol.

Kim Min-kyu (Business Proposal) plays Rembrary, a high priest from a mystical, Kpop-less other world who one day swaps bodies with Woo Yeon-woo, a member of the idol group Wild Animal. With Yeon-woo refusing to switch bodies back unless Wild Animal makes it big, Rembrary will attempt to navigate the dance practices, rabid fans, and tight pants of idol life for the chance to get home.

Thankfully, by Rembrary’s side is his mega fan and road manager, Kim Dal, played Go Bo-kyul (Hi Bye, Mama!). She’s a longtime Wild Animal fan, and she’ll be darned if she lets a body switch gets in the way of Wild Animal’s success. Together, they’ll push against all obstacles on their road to fame, including one Shin Jo-woon, played by Lee Jang-woo (Oh! Samkwang Villa), an entertainment exec who also swaps bodies with a demon from Rembrary’s world.

The teaser gives us a telepathic post-body swap conversation between Rembrary and Yeon-woo. Yeon-woo tells an incredulous Rembrary that he doesn’t want to go back to his lame regular body, and without any options left, Rembrary blurts, “What if Wild Animal were to get famous?”

That gets the ball rolling for Rembrary, who hopelessly attempts to learn to dance, diet, and make sexy facial expressions, all to the frustration of Dal. However, the frustration quickly makes way for some romantic tension, since in the following scenes we see get some shots of Dal getting all hot and bothered by Rembrary’s presence.

Finally, we cut the cuteness with some creepy shots of a demon-possessed Jo-woon while in the voiceover he threatens Rembrary: “Let’s have some fun in this world.”

Written by Lee Chun-geum and directed by Park So-yeon and Lee So-yoon, The Heavenly Idol will premiere on February 15 on tvN.

Maddeningly excited about this. All this new promo material is driving me feral.

I looked this up, and I believe what is happening to you is called therianthropy. But since this is a body swapping drama, I want to caution you not to get confused--it will only lead to disappointment.

Maybe the OG idol will also find something in priest's world worthy of staying for and thus both guys will agree to never swap back in the end?

That would be ideal-body swapping as a solution to an excess of mediocre pop idols!

The ‘Snow drop’ was a stinker in many ways but KMK was impressive in his character’s hard edged presence but I found him too mannered in ‘Queen: Live and War’ so didn’t enjoy his acting but I hope he delivers here!
