Breezy nostalgia takes over All That We Loved

After an adorable teaser poster, TVING coming-of-age drama All That We Loved has dropped its first teaser. It’s cute, it’s old school, and it might be just what I need to get out of my drama slump.

Starring EXO’s Sehun (Now We Are Breaking Up) and Jo Joon-young (Idol: The Coup), the two play high school besties. The teaser notes that the boys have the same last name and they’re both handsome, but when asked if they’re brothers, both are highly insulted and claim they have nothing in common. Still, the puppy-like fighting between them looks like a solid friendship to me.

When a pretty transfer student — played by Jang Yeo-bin (Our Blooming Youth) — shows up, both boys take a liking to her, and the rest of the trailer is devoted to breezy shots of the three doing their youthful thing. (Interesting to note, the illness and organ donor parts of our story don’t figure here.)

But in the midst of the fluff, there’s the feeling of wistfulness, too, and that’s what is pulling me in. The onscreen text tells us the drama is about, “That time when we were 18.” And then the nostalgia kicks into full gear — the music, the gloaming, the feeling of something precious that might now be lost. Sehun closes the teaser with the narration: “Those days, the one thing we did best was love.”

Well, there’s that old school drama vibe (which this drama definitely has), and then there’s that I’m-doing-this-on-purpose old school vibe (which this drama is also doing, as it’s set in the early 2000s), and I can’t help but hope guess that the framing for the story will be a look back at this season of life through the eyes of a character who is now older, wiser, and perhaps a bit more hardened towards life.

Directed by PD Kim Jin-sung and written by Kang Yoon, TVING’s All That We Loved premieres on May 5.

Hoping for a nice positive hopeful rather than angst worthy watch.

So looking forward to this one 😊 It is a concern that the whole needing a life saving donation is not mentioned as it makes me wonder if any other elements are going to be dropped in at a later point.

Fingers crossed there will be a positive spin on that part! The premise is too enticing.
