tvN piques interest in the rest of their 2023 drama lineup

Taking a page out of the book of ye olde Netflix, tvN has recently released a nice sizzle reel of sorts to get us pumped for the rest of their drama lineup. And yeah, it totally worked because the only thing I like more than a fun list of upcoming dramas is a fun and organized list of upcoming dramas.

So, here are the highlights, followed by the video and all its sneak peeks.

June 2023
See You in My 19th Life
Coming just around the bend in one week’s time on June 17, this drama and its massive buzz need no introduction. The entire dramaverse awaits the arrival of Shin Hye-sun as our enigmatic and reincarnating heroine, who meets up with her fated past-life love Ahn Bo-hyun.

If you need a refresher, check out the drama’s ultra-glossy and mysterious promos here.

July 2023
My Lovely Liar
Possibly my most anticipated drama on the list, My Lovely Liar has a super ~cool~ cast of Kim So-hyun, Hwang Min-hyun, Seo Ji-hoon, Yoon Ji-on, and more. Telling the story of a heroine who’s a human lie detector and the traumatized hero she comes in contact with — in addition to a lot of other fun tropey elements — this premise gets my K-drama antennae all excited. Promos have only just begun, but you can check out the first poster here for a quick vibe check.

The drama airs starting July 24 in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot.

July 2023
The Uncanny Counter 2
The fabulous fighting team of Jo Byung-kyu, Yoo Joon-sang, Kim Se-jung, and Yeom Hye-ran are back reprising their roles in The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch, and the only thing better than that is the fact that Kang Ki-young, Jin Seon-gyu, and Yoo In-soo are joining them this time. You can check out the wavy-haired script reading stills here while you wait.

The Uncanny Counter 2 takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after See You in My 19th Life concludes.

September 2023
Sparkling Watermelon
Cute fantasy-music drama alert! They had me at Seol In-ah, but also leading the way are “hot newcomers” (not my phrase) Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, and Shin Eun-soo. This drama sounds like it could be the next great youth drama brimming with heart and music and magic. Or, you know, another head-scratcher like The Heavenly Idol. Read more about the premise here.

Sparkling Watermelon will air in the Monday-Tuesday slot after My Lovely Liar concludes.

September 2023
Aramun’s Sword (a.k.a. Arthdal Chronicles 2)
Yeah, so they weren’t kidding about a second season for this drama, so come September, we will reenter this fantasy world, except this time Song Joong-ki and Kim Ji-won knew better were replaced in their roles by Lee Jun-ki and Shin Se-kyung. Returning from Season 1, however, are Jang Dong-gun and Kim Ok-bin. Will a new director make a difference?

Arthdal 2 takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after The Uncanny Counter 2 concludes.

October 2023
Desert Island Diva
I take it back — this one might be my most anticipated drama on the list. Come October, we’ll get to enjoy Park “Daesang Winner” Eun-bin as a wannabe idol singer. After coming back into civilization after 15 years on a deserted island (!), she moves in with the famous female vocalist whose songs gave her hope. While she was stranded. For 15 years. All alone. And survived. And because that sounds just about as weird as it gets for a K-drama rom-com setup, I am ready! Also starring Kim Hyo-jin, the steal-your-heart Chae Jong-hyeop, Cha Hak-yeon, and Kim Joo-hun, this sounds like the smash hit of 2023 in the making. And I’m gonna hold them to that.

Desert Island Diva takes the Saturday-Sunday slot after Arthdal 2 concludes.

Except Arthdal Chronicles (that I will surely try for the fun or making fun of?), everything looks promising!

😂
If arthdal has more action then Jun-Ki might be a good fit. I might check it out if that’s the case.
I couldn’t continue season one even when the recap comments were fun.

We didn't hear a lot of the other actors except the main ones. I didn't search neither so maybe they gave informations but I liked Yang cha with Tanya or Erika Karata as Karika. But she had a scandal in Japan, so I don't know if they gave her the role.

Yep on Lee Jun-Ki. I have to watch for him so I'm hoping the new director can do something decent with it. Course, if the scrip writer can't cut it, I'll get to watch I hope a lot of Jun-Ki doing whatever they tell him to do. He's that good in my book and I have been missing him in action.

not to keen on anything, will watch Arthdal for teacher though i have not watched season 1 or know anything about it.
unpopular opinion but im am not automatically glued to Park Eun Bin dramas. I dropped most of them. yeah, she is nice but ... also kinda convenient.
I hope uncanny counter holds it steady unlike Tot9T1938 which completely lost me at the end. No need for weightless characters.

Even if we didn't know who's in it, Desert Island Diva piques one's interest based on the unusual setup.

I don’t know why their hairstyles get my attention.

Shin Hye Sun with her red hair could be a hit or miss. Based on video teaser sometimes it looks like it suits her, based one the photo teaser not so much.

I’m not a fan of Kim So Hyun’s bangs. It looks poorly cutted.

What happen with Yoo In Soo’s hair on those poster? He looks hilarious 🤣

And thank God they give Park Eun Bin natural long hairstyle. I seriously thought they would gave her short hair with noodle curls given the story she is from a desserted island.

1 - will try it because it's SHS and there's no better options currently anyway.
2 - KSH, I love you, but let's meet in another show with a costar more fitting your talent. Tag me pls if the miracle happens tho.
4 - very doubtful about this one, but who knows, will wait for recaps.
5 - I'm the one a few people who appreciated AC despite all its faults for an attempt to do something new and ambitious. While it won't be the same with timeskip and cast changes, how can I say no to LJG's long awaited return to historical dramas? Better not be a total trash - not even for the franchise's sake, it's probably too little too late at this point, I just don't want him to be discouraged and abandon sageuk genre for another 7 years *cries*
6 - uh, maybe? Still find premise an absolute mess, but cast... hmm... We'll see.
