Kyaaaah! Super excited for Uncanny Counter 2!!! Why does Yoo Joon-Sang look so young in that photo?! I had to zoom in to recognize him.

Really looking forward to Revenant as well. I love the genre and both leads are excellent actors ❤️

At this rate he will never get out of his Min min avatar. Hopefully his reinvented 'plumpness' will help him leave behind the forever frozen image of 2017 and he can be recognized for the actor he is. S Korea must be the only country that's harder on its male actors than it is on it females lol!

@minniegupta1, I'm afraid he already lost a big chunk of his HAPPINESS/OBY weight - either to look younger for Dr Slump teen parts or idk((( So I guess he'll look more recognizable as Min Min in spinoff, tho it would've been nice to have them joke about how happy and well fed married life changed him lol.

2023 shapes to be the year of bodyshaming drama in dramaland for me - I naively hoped it'll start and end with Hyungsik, but NOPE, that was just the tip of the iceberg. And it occurred for the polar opposite reasons to make it even more wtf! I don't even know how to comment that - other than the obvious confession that I'm super tired of this crap...

Not sure how ANOTHER cheesy romcom with megastar FL will help him to shed that image though. I wouldn't be surprised if it brings ratings and another wave of viewers' love for him, but in terms of critical recognition this doesn't really look like the right project to place such hopes at... We'll see.

@gikata: Wow. Yes, I forgot he has shed a lot of that weight, though he still looks much better than his skinny avatars (granted he looked cute in 2017 but he was a little more than a kid back then, and he was already out of that look by Suits and his military enlistment so what did they expect). Do they really expect actors to keep looking 25 forever? I saw the same critisism for Lee Min Ho and yet I feel he looks so good now. I can't imagine surviving in this kind of environment and keeping a happy demeanor. NJ's character from OBS struck a chord and makes me worry about these immensely gifted people. As for choosing Dr Slump, I think he probably heard the clamor of his fans, and I am sure the criticism at the of expected lack romance in OBY must have gotten to him earlier than us, and could have been a factor for him to choose the script. He is amazingly confident against strong female leads but hopefully there is more to the script than we know (also that he is choosing to work with a married actress, a new mother at that, who might still be lactating, and that increases my respect for this guy manyfold). I think he struggling between choosing different roles and making his fans happy, and the latter is winning, increasing the chances of him being forever typecast until his looks last ( judging by the standards, another 7-8 years at most). This sucks. I hope he finds a breakthrough script like Happiness again somewhere.

Lmao, what a nonsense - if only LMH's acting was as consistently good as his looks)))

Wish such people you can never win - actors are criticized for their weight, their age, for doing PS to maintain their looks, for NOT doing PS to improve what they were born with etc... Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Likewise, cannot even imagine working in the horrible environment like that, and that's with me being kinda infamous for my dgaf attitude towards random people's opinion.

Hyungsik's case is pretty confusing here because I was 100% under impression he wanted to distance as much as possible from his SWDBS days for the time being with his choices of following projects, even going as far as overworking himself by taking Soundtrack as "here's your short romance, now let me focus on other things" kind of role, and then... Maybe you're right and him - or his management - became nervous that he might lose his already existing fanbase by taking too many daring career steps at once and thus decided to play it safe again for a while. Not that I mind romcom much - why not when he's so good at it? - but this particular project rubs me off the wrong way for many reasons (moar doctor dramas! we surely aren't overfed with them this year lol). I'm pretty sure he's ecstatic to work with someone he's been long-term friends with though. But such things can be double-edged sword - some actors shine while romancing their irl besties on screen while others fell flat and hard at that. Who knows?

It's really sad that OBY didn't soar after all the time and effort he put into it. I don't think we should be worried for him that much yet, with his determined and hardworking attitude he'll most likely be fine. But how long it takes is unknown. I'd probably be more optimistic and patient if this kdrama year wasn't so terribly bland...

@gikata Yes, that makes sense. Though I don't think his fans would mind him doing some really good action stuff since he is great at it. I too don't mind the rom com just because he is so very good at it, however they are tough to wade through with all the filler nonsense/slow pace and yes, lets have more white coats this year...LOL!

Much as I adore Soundtrack, if it was a 'romance' gift to his fan, then it was the wrong script. In that case he should have gone for something risque and fast paced because as I am learning more about how things roll in this world, a very platonic slowburn isn't what the fanatics fans of the whirlwind that 'Min min' was would be looking for. That was not too smart .

Well, I for one certainly would NEVER mind him doing more action dramas))) Honestly, for all the romcom label Dr Slump seems like it's gonna have a lot of usual hospital melo stuff kdramas love so much. And while it may probably help with keeping the plot going, I'm not so sure this would be better than having filler nonsense episodes. Medical dramas range from crackstatic to flat-line boring and everything in between. I do hope it's the former but...

I have this nagging guess/impression that Soundtrack's script/format weren't fully ready when he signed up on the project. There were even multiple conflicting reports about it being a movie, a longer drama etc. The story itself too - it had a premise clearly suited for a movie but pacing and tropes more fitting for a standard length TV series, and the two didn't exactly mix well. Wouldn't be surprised if initial concept looked very different from the final product. I even joked about Disney+ censoring all the fire out of it here before))) But if last minute re-do was what really happened, it probably had more to do with his limited availability/scheduling conflict than anything else. We'll never know.

@gikata LOL! I absolutely had no expectation of ANY fire because I was watching it on Disney and wasn't let down at all. After watching 'fire' all the time in whatever I watched, half the time it being trashy (The Glory touched it and I wasn't happy, senseless nudity and sex just to prove an already proven point makes no sense), I was thrilled to find something where the upperbody organ mattered more than the ones in their respective trousers. Don't get me wrong, Nevertheless is right up my alley, but I think he probably needs to find a script that somewhere in between if he wants his hardcore base to stop baying for his Min min blood.

1

Then joke's on me and all the other fools who absolutely expected it to have more actual romance, cute cohabitation hijinks, friends to lovers organic development with palpable chemistry etc instead of endless awkward pauses, jealousy fits and flashbacks with voiceovers providing a heavy exposition to who likes whom, since when and why should we care about any of that. I still remember times when damned mouse was able to give viewers all that in cartoons with talking animals! But now they mess up even talented real actors efforts and call it a day. Meh.

Ha))) Didn't watch THE GLORY, but that's Netflix for ya! They are trying so darn hard to be the next HBO and mostly keep failing spectacularly.

Funny thing is that his core domestic fanbase aren't romcom thirsty teens, it's adults who liked his acting in WHTMF, HS, Hwarang and SWDBS. That's the folks he needs to impress. But the loudest ones always get more attention. Those who just want Min Min all over again must be let go, sadly - they're useless at best and harmful at worst in the long run.

1

@gikata Not taking away from my adoration of current Soundtrack (maybe I’m biased) but I absolutely see your point now, especially if this was meant to be a ‘romance gift’. Interestingly Netflix US does not have any of PHS shows, including Happiness. Amazon never aired OBY here. I wonder what’s the deal here, especially when I see some complete disasters having their run on Netflix. I cannot agree more that his mim min fans have to be let go. Compared to all others I’ve seen, he is head and shoulders above most and can’t wait to see him maximize his potential like Woo-Shik has.

Kim so-hyun is quite literally sparkling. She looks lovely. Welcome back to drama-land.

No. 5. NUMBERS. Fingers crossed I will be able to watch this on a legal (Viki) stream in the US.
No. 6. THE UNCANNY COUNTER SEASON 2: COUNTER PUNCH. (That is the title on MyDramaList and I love the boxing reference). Great news.
(I wonder if our 4 leads stunt doubles were at the first script reading.)
