Premiere Watch: Longing for You

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Mystery, thriller, action
Episode count: 14

Reasons to watch: ENA has been dropping dramas like it’s going out of style, and next up is Na In-woo as a cheerful detective who, well, doesn’t stay cheerful for long. With his little brother (Ren of NU’EST!) murdered, our hero seeks revenge, but soon finds himself uncovering all sorts of family secrets. The cast also includes Kim Ji-eun, Kwon Yul (!), Lee Kyu-han, and Bae Jong-ok, among others, and a lot of character conflict is promised. Our screenwriter last brought us Graceful Family and Sword and Flower, so this will be an interesting departure. Though the premise sounds like absolutely nothing new, we all know the secret sauce is in the execution — and the depth of character they’re able to imbue – so I’m hopeful for a thriller that thrills, but doesn’t sacrifice the heart of the matter, either.

TL;DR: Na In-woo mourns for his little brother but uncovers a lot of secrets

My question is, is Kwon Yul and good guy or a bad guy?

I feel like the placement of those two men directly on the woman's head was a weird choice. She looks a bit like she has a lobster claw for a head because of the space between them.

Still, this could be fun! I'm a bit overwhelmed by dramas right now, so I might follow through weecaps before I make a decision about diving in, but I love a complicated family/revenge drama.

Over…whelmed…by…dramaaaaaaaasssss

And not only current and recently completed ones, but also armed the knowledge that Uncanny Counter 2 is coming up this weekend.

I’ve got to come up with a new coping strategy that involves keeping my job.

The split in her hair is def creepy and better for a horror drama lol

I mean, maybe that’s what we’re getting here. That’s an awful lot of men crowding around—and bursting out—of that woman’s head.

And anyway, who IS she? I’m assuming the mom of the brothers, but then in her head is that their dad/her husband facing off against, I dunno, HIS brother bursting her skull apart…while her two sons are down lower on her, um, torso, looking tragic and sad??

And, finally, who’s our lone, physically intact female (prosecutor) looking out into nothingness like there isn’t a woman with four men in and on her head like right there behind her?

It’s a horror drama, for sure.

She's Kwon Yul's mom actually, who's turned his head away ignoring the two men cracking open his mom's head. Family morals are declining day-by-day I tell you 😔.

They are giving her a headache. A splitting headache. Its a subtle metaphor.

Hey, y’all…the tone of this first episode is funny. Like with funny sit-com music and actual jokes that are quite amusing. How are they going to keep that up when dude’s brother is murdered?? Are they?

She plays Kwon Yul's mom and a hospital director -- so that speaks for itself. Ain't nobody good ever run a hospital in dramaland

I get your point, but I feel compelled to bring up Joo Jong Soo of Hospital Playlist, who is one half of my favourite older generation pair, as the exception.

Oh the imagery your comment made in my head! LOL!

I'm not surprised it's funny. The writer also wrote Graceful Family, another revenge drama which was surprisingly funny (though sometimes unintentionally so!). Bae Jong-ok starred in that too.

It reminds me of the poster for Paper Moon where the woman's hands and hair were placed to make it look like she had pigs' trotters. I do not mean that as a compliment.

I need a breather before starting any more dramas (except Uncanny Counter 2) so I may also follow this from afar.

My first impression of this poster was that these are devil's horns.

Does she have a split of personality and they're 2 + her in her head? I'm not sure to understand the choice of poster...

MDL reports that ENA’s W/TH drama LONGING FOR YOU will be 14 seventy minute episodes.
Looking at the ENA dramas I have watched over the last year I would say some were very good (NEVER GIVE UP, LIES HIDDEN IN MY GARDEN) and some not so good (SUMMER STRIKE, STRANGERS AGAIN (drop), BO-RA, DEBORAH! (drop)).
Na In-woo received a lot of good will when he stepped in to help out when that unpleasantness hit RWTMR (2021) but it was a drop already for me. His JINXED AT FIRST (2022) ultimately was a disappointment but I think the writers have to bear the responsibility for that.
So, with all that being said I will be watching (with fingers crossed) LONGING FOR YOU.

We so need "The worst drama poster of the year" award, there's just too many promising nominees!

I think you get round the numbers by having categories e.g.
ugly to look at (Forbidden marriage)
Most misleading (Summer strike, anyone? Close second Good, bad mother)
Best Beanie description (I think it was the description of the Narco saints poster that had me in stitches as the beanie described the message behind every character in the shot).

Hmm, misleading posters are a special kind of crime indeed. Simply ugly/cheap/ridiculous ones can be forgiven more easily.

I remember the comparisons of the KTL poster to a Hallmark Original Christmas movie poster

From Happiness Battle to this? Lee Kyu-han must really love the ENA midweek time slot.

The writer wrote a dandy role for Bae Jong-ok in Graceful Family so I'm interested.
