Would You Rather #33

In dramaland, leading ladies often find themselves torn between the love of two equally attractive men — a choice none of us would want to make! But what if you did have to pick between the frustrating lawyer and the adorkable police officer? In this weekly feature, we ask you to make the difficult decisions — and we aren’t limiting our options to dreamy oppas.

Vote via the poll and feel free to use the comments to explain exactly how you were able to choose! So, Beanies:

WOULD YOU RATHER #32 RESULTS

Well, well, well, Beanies. You surprised me a bit this time. Since you’ve already established yourself as a mostly introverted bunch (see previous poll results), I was fully expecting the majority of you to opt for a closet full of athleisure — even if the tracksuits are tacky and covered in sequins. I underestimated how money-motivated you all were, though, and based on the comments, it seems that @kmoon79 and many others were fully prepared to star in a cringey commercial if the payout increased their bank accounts.

Of course, money wasn’t the only motivating factor. Several of you indicated you were excited to get your 15 minutes of fame. @hopefulromantic, for example, was eager to star in an “EPIC commercial that goes viral,” and as @welh640 pointed out, the potentially embarrassing commercial would show a willingness to act in roles that others would find less appealing, which could open the door for future acting gigs. Plus, worst case scenario, according to @jls943, everyone will forget about the commercial in a few weeks — assuming it doesn’t become a viral meme.

But there were still a lot of tracksuit-loving Beanies who made up nearly 36% of the vote. Among them, there were Beanies like @kaddicted and @sspat, who would prefer to “fly under the radar” instead of star in a commercial that would live forever on the internet. Others, however, believe “‘ugly’ is only in the eye of the beholder” (@britney) and would much rather have a comfy wardrobe.

The obvious first response to this is...do we also get a Gong Yoo with our Subway (or Ha Joon!?!), a Joo Won with our Illy coffee, a Junho with our Papa John's, or to meet up with "single person on the planet" with our Kopiko?? Because then the answer is ob-vee.

Since I doubt that is so...well, I still pick the PPL. I am indeed now already living in a world where "Almost Paradise" will in my head for this week's commute time anyway, and it sucks.

I think this is an extremely logical question to be asking! 🧐👍

For me, being restricted to buying only products featured as K-drama PPL would have me Dyson vacuuming all day in order to shed pounds from the non-stop fried chicken and beer diet, so that is a no.

Since my daily commute is 10 minutes, three spins of even a bad song is bearable.

The number 1 will ruin me pretty fast and surprisly I kinda like the song. It has a nostalgic vibe. It would have been better way more fun with Love is The Moment 😂

A good song? I could listen to forever but a bad song would haunt me in my dreams. Eating PP stuff? I'd give that a try as there are quite a few different ones out there and they do sort of evolve into other selections given a little time and a few dramas plus, its a good test of portion control say with some chicken or subway so yeh, its obvious to me what to choose.

Buying products featured as PPL includes traditional food, make up products, beautiful clothes, the latest phones and luxury cars so if I get a male lead look alike who chauffeurs me around, is a clothes horse for the winter coat and cooks those meals for me what’s the problem🤣

No song can be more upsetting than "Stand By Your Man" on repeat while watching "Noona who buys me Food / Something in the Rain". I HATED that song so much.
I'll pick a life of being restricted to buying only k-drama PPL items ANY day!

Except it's wrong. The song was played once by episode (maybe more for 1 or 2 episodes).I think Save the Last Dance For Me was actually the song the most played.

For every drama, there are songs for the couple that will be often played.

and I maintain that "Stand by Your man" was a very annoying song whenever it was played during that show.

I have always hated that song and if the first time I heard it was in that drama I would have still hated it.

Yes, but people always exaggerates saying the song always was played.

It's like an urban legend at this point.

It wasn't my favourite song but I liked it and it didn't bother me.

1

The key thing is hearing the song ONCE was too much for ME and many others. Any time it played it caused me to come out of the drama because I was annoyed that out of all the possible songs with appropriate words they chose Stand by your man and Save the last dance for me. I have two or three of the other songs from that OST on a playlist because the words summed up the scenes they were played with and bring back nice memories.

There are plenty of songs on OSTs that I am not a fan of but can tolerate but if someone else hates them that’s fine. I have no issue with them expressing their dislike as that’s their right in countries that have free speech.

@reply1988

I just corrected the fact people always says the song was played a lot when it wasn't the case. I didn't say anything else...

I didn't anything about the fact people didn't like it.

So your lesson...

It its objective is for the song to haunt us, I guess whoever produced or directed the show succeeded. It almost looked like they just wanted a show that accompanied THE song.

It's honestly misogynistic that the drama's Korean title is about a woman, yet its theme song is about a man -- standing by him and forgiving him. 🤢

I muted the song every time it played. The obnoxious English soundtrack was what contributed to me hating this show.

THAT is the worst song ever because it haunted me for a long time. The whole show is haunting, so much so the song.

When I first looked at this picture, I thought this was a food related choice. Croissant styled hair (I recall others describing Lee Min Ho's hair as shaped that way) or Subway as the best place for fine dining on a date. I may not have the answer, but I'll repost this link to a John Oliver bit that spoofs Subway and the Subway PPL in Korean dramas for anyone that hasn't seen it yet......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDdYFhzVCDM

Getting sick of a song is a real thing haha and it would suck if a person's favorite song ended up becoming just torture.

Meanwhile, sometimes I am curious about the PPL featured in dramas and there's probably workarounds/loopholes for this issue. Even if you're restricted to buying PPL, that doesn't mean you can't barter with others for other products.

I was thinking a good workaround would be to get a job in kdrama marketing! Then you could just pursue the products you wanted to buy and problem solved!

My response to this is very skewed because I work from home, so...the song it is!
I think I'd get tired of the fried chicken and Subway pretty quickly, despite the Maxim instant coffee tempting me over, so that's a pass for me.

Some of the PPLs are quite costly which can lead to bankruptcy. Since I love my money,I will choose second option. Within few day the song will become background noise anyway...

The same song, every commute?! No thanks. This has real Groundhog Day vibes, and even if it was a smash hit like Cher’s “I gat you babe” (bet she’s a sageuk fan), this can get unbearable pretty fast.

I’ll take the PPL. The only question remains is what I’ll do with all the fancy cars. Finding just one parking space is impossible around here… 🤔 *grabs a red ginseng sachet to boost pondering capabilities*

There is such a wide variety of PPL that it doesn’t seem like it would be that bad, tbh. I wouldn’t at all mind having that electric car from Crash Course in Romance, I already own the Dyson vacuum, and you could go on that vacation from King the Land!

A red heart shaped hair brush which makes me look prettier every time Swoony Hoon looks at me while drinking his protein coffee or sitting in his massage chair. I prefer my coffee as Maxim or Kopiko and guys did you know Subway also sells salads although no K-drama character seems to have heard of that. So PPL it is with that makeup stick which makes me "glow"!!

That PPL makeup stick that Kim Go-eun is the presenter popped up in my head right away after reading the prompt and the choices. I still wonder how they could make her apply that stick during a stakeout in The King Eternal Monarch.

I will need to get a job sowing eyes on cuddle mascots, so I don't have a daily commute. There are just so few things featured in the PPL that I like, from stuff you suck out of little bags to or sandwiches that take the dry "sand" part way to literally and mostly clothes that are fancy, but just not my style at all (that is, maybe some of Ok-hee's clothing, and the scribbled, crude visible repair T-shirts from Itaewon Class ... )

This one is so easy! I LOVE Paradise. I love the whole BOF OST. It's iconic, it's my childhood, it's everything.
I hate PPL products.
No competition!

We've already seen food PPL used as weapons, so I'd fashion a crowbar out of a dried-up Subway sandwich, a few beer cans, and a heart-shaped hairbrush and use it to pry the speakers out of whatever vehicle I'm in or smash my earbuds or anything else necessary to make that Song From Hell stop. So, both, I guess?

This is not even a competition. "Almost paradise" is awful, awful, awful. It's a type of song that the Kdrama serial killer would play on a repeat torturing his captive victims. Absolutely, 100 percent, no.

I wouldn't mind being restricted to buying only products being featured as PPL. There are a lot of items available. The key here is, the funds for buying those should also be included lol. Those massage chairs costs a lot of money.

I can't stand listening to AP on repeat so I opt for the PPL.

Well, I'm able to tune out a lot bad music, and Almost Paradise has never made much impact on me, but PPls are like having the whole world in my life, the products are like a light in my weary life, if only they could come to me, if only I could keep the them forever.

Plus I actually like Kopikos, and am eating one right now!

There are so many more products in the world than just what is featured in k-dramas. To be limited to what they advertise would be too restricting. Having to listen to an annoying/bad song for a few minutes (or even an hour) a day is preferable because after a while I would just tune the music out and not really pay attention. But being restricted as to what I could buy would put a damper on my quality of life.

There is soooooo much PPL in kdramaland and if I can afford it yes I’d like that massage chair or that laser skincare helmet. That said, I’m not sure if I can subsist on subway and kopiko candy everyday, and sorry but an Americano sounds horrible! While I like Korean fried chicken and ramyeon my IBD prevents me from indulging too much. Sadly I’d I have no choice but listen to Almost Paradise on repeat during my daily commute, tho there isn’t anything saying that I don’t have to put it on mute :P

I have an almost 2-hour-each-way commute. Even though I'm working a hybrid schedule, listening to "Almost Paradise" for 4 hours on my in-office days is 4 hours too long. Having a variety of music and videos is what helps me survive the commute.

I'm down for being restricted to PPL stuff. Sure some of the stuff will be expensive, but it will force me to buy less, so it evens out. And they've got PPL for items across the cost spectrum. From snacks to dyson vacuums. I bet the Korea version of subway is better than the USA version. And thank goodness for A Business Proposal - so all the bibigo stuff is on the table!

And if I get sick of the PPL-only options and desperate, I'll try to get a job at a production company and pick out what new products we should work out PPL contracts for.
