Lee Yoo-Young falls for L’s polite charms in teaser

In the latest teaser for Dare to Love Me, KBS’s confucian-modern romance of opposites, we get to see our heroine Lee Yoo-young (Insider) as she struggles with being constantly belittled by everyone, except of course, for one flower scholar.

The teaser opens on Kim Hong-do (Lee Yoo-young), a designer who lives the hard knock life being demeaned by those around her. As she fills a trash can with her ex’s stuff and sets it on fire, we hear the disparaging comments of those around her: from her friends and family (“How could someone like you expect to become a designer?”), to her coworkers (“Well, the company isn’t expecting much from you”), to her most recent ex (“You were like a knock-off girlfriend to me”).

Our heroine is at her wits’ end and screams, “Why is everyone so mean to me!” But even her apartment seems unmoved by her plight as the smoke detector sets the sprinklers off, leaving her in a wet, self-pitying mess.

But everything changes when Hong-do, right after the sprinkler fiasco, goes to the convenience store and runs into our slo-mo Confucian scholar, L (a.k.a. Kim Myung-soo)(Numbers) in all his hanbok glory. He respectfully bows while handing her a bouquet of flowers as she thinks to herself: “Even if the whole world looks down on me, he’s the one person who would never dare to treat me thoughtlessly.”

LOL. As a card carrying member of the Pride and Prejudice/Mr. Darcy fanclub, I can’t blame Hong-do for instantly falling for this bastion of propriety and class. The real question for her is going to be how she is going to get Mr. Manners to see past his stoic principles keeping them apart and (as the Korean version of the drama title says) treat her thoughtlessly?

Written by Park Yumi and directed by Jang Yang-ho, KBS’s Dare to Love Me will premiere on May 13 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

I had to do a quick check that this would not be replacing Lovely Runner but running alongside it. Now I have confirmed that I have two shows to watch on Mondays I am happy. This will hopefully be a pleasant watch.

I'm definitely going to watch this drama on air.
It seems exactly the kind of comedy I enjoy. Fingers crossed!

‘It seems exactly the kind of…I enjoy’👈🏾 there have been too many times that I have said this only to then have to quietly walk away from the drama that turned into something unexpected😬 Let’s hope this is light as we will need something to make up for the Monday evening fun watch hole that will be left when Lovely runner ends.

Anything can happen, this is Dramaland 😅
I like Myungsoo more than Byeon Wooseok and the plot seems light and funny. If it has the "slice of life" tone I love in rom-coms (and which I miss in Lovely Runner), this should be a winner.
But if the script is bad, the rest will be useless 🤷‍♀️

Why is he in a hanbok? Is he cosplaying? I’m confused.

Maybe he follows some ancient rules? Kinda like Amish people in USA?

His family is said to be VERY traditionalist, my bet is on some clan gathering requiring dress-code - a relative's wedding, perhaps? There probably are people who wear hanboks 24/7 in their daily life in SK, but I think we saw him in modern clothes in other promos so that's ruled out.

I’m really interested in knowing who they are. Hanboks can be so vibrant and gorgeous when beautiful fabrics and jewel shades are used. I would also love to see more contemporary hanboks being worn but as I understand it, the well made ones are not cheap so not affordable by the majority. But actors and well-funded KDs can access those. Some of the ones featured in that recent time-slip drama with a Joseon twist - the name of which has escaped me - were gorgeous.

This drama premieres next week, but what about MBC drama The brave Yong Soo Jung which premieres today? At least I thought so, but it is also not included on the currently airing drama list here.

US availability: Viki. Episode 1 (of 16) airs next Monday, May 13.
I like both leads so I will be there.

O/T. This means I have to get caught up on (MY) LOVELY RUNNER. My plan after episode two was to go back and watch from the beginning. After tomorrow’s episode that is a ten episode binge. I can do it.
THE MIDNIGHT STUDIO wraps up with episode 16 today.

Seems like it could be a fun, straightforward romantic comedy. Hopefully the ML's propensity for wearing hanbok fulfills the "something extra" requirement and there's no need to shoehorn in a murder plot or abusive parents. Although you could argue that a *not* having a murder in a romcom is actually more unusual lately.

God, this drama looks so silly and cliche, give it to me now…

(Yea, I was excited about AtF too, but shh, let me hope)
