Just watched this. I wish that asked a few questions about BLM and living in Korea. It is very centered on being something that is happening or needs to happen in the states.

Their statements of “it started with black people but we have made it our own so we don’t have support black people because of it” (I’m paraphrasing) tracks with how black people have been treated for centuries. Take from our culture then disregard us, we create and others steal. When that one chick said black people started it but it isn’t theirs anymore…WOW. As the saying goes: They want all of our rhythm but none of our blues.

I wish they’d maybe followed up with instances of korean culture or art forms being appropriated in that way. I’m sure there is some.
My mind is completely blank right now and all I can think of is Gwen Stefani. It is horrible to think of now but at the time it didn’t phase me like it should of. That she would have these japanese women follow her around and basically use the Harajuku style to catapult her own fashion line with.

I wasn’t and still aren’t fond of her for that very reason. My youngest daughter LOVED Harajuku. I didn’t deny her the things she wanted but I gave a speech about appropriation for every single thing I bought. Eventually she stopped asking…lol.
