Beanie level: Errand boy

Eun Joo is really unlikable as a sibling. She has very few likeable qualities to me.

Oh I thought I’m the only one who doesn’t enjoy her behavior.
I know she is going through so much but the harshness and bitterness she shows is just too much! Sometimes words leave more scars than actions and I found many of her words mean. Making family members cry n then leave..
I can’t relate to her because my older sister is so kind and caring even when she is in pain.

Once Again is finally starting to progress! I guess we’re half way through so it’s about time. I really want the sibling connection to be revealed. Hurry up!

I can’t wait for the recap of episode 6 of UF. I’m confused about a small part at the end. Also which sister does the friend like in present day? I’m torn. I think I’ll stay on Neutral Island instead of hopping on a particular ship. I don’t really like Eun Joo but I think she and Chan Hyeok (?) would be good for each other. The yin to her yang. On the other hand I love a good friends to lovers plotline.

6
3

I’m firmly on Neutral Island too because I have no idea where this show is going. I thought for sure EJ was the one CH likes but then it seemed like EH. I could go for either pairing.

    2
    0

    I’m also confused.
So much. I’ve just written a commentary on other beanie post regarding this.
I love EunHee and ChanHyeok relation as friends, they share magic, but I don’t see them (yet) as a couple.
And there’s this tension between EunJoo and ChanHyeok. Not a bad tension, but just the feeling that they are not saying something… am I the only one who thinks so?

    1
    1

You are not alone. I think so too. Like maybe Eun Joo 7sed to like him but didn’t do anything because of Eun Hui.

This will be a little long so I apologize in advance.

During this latest protest for yet another killing of a black person by racist police officers we’ve all seen the various statements of support by artists of all walks life. The one that stood out for me was CL.

I am not a fan. I liked a few of 2NE1’s songs and I absolutely love Bom but CL has always rubbed me the wrong way. For me, she represents what I hate the most. A non-black woman making a living off the backs of black women. As a black woman myself, nothing irritates me more than a non-black woman being celebrated for the very things black women are condemned for even though we created them. She was just a Korean Kardashian to me. The fact that she made her U.S debut with Method Man in the video really irritated me. Black people as props gets under my skin but I was mad at him for that not her.

The other day, her statement of support for the BLM movement made me re-examine the way I see her. K-Pop started off the backs of black people and she acknowledged that. For the first time ever someone admitted it. I don’t mean the usual “Growing up I was influenced by (insert black artist name here)”. I mean actually acknowledged that it is all influenced by black people “whether they want to admit or not“. It blew me away.

I was talking to my oldest daughter about it and I told her we were looking at it wrong. At her wrong. This is a case of “don’t hate the player, hate the game”. We shouldn’t be mad at her for taking advantage of something. She didn’t create the problem, she finessed a system. It isn’t her fault that people love black culture as long as black people aren’t the ones serving it up. She grew up in a world where hip-hop ruled so why wouldn’t she want to become a rapper?

I think the timing of her statement says something too. Not because of the protest but because she is no longer under YG’s thumb. I mean he is one of the original Korean hijackers of all things black relating to music and style. Does she feel free to say what she really feels now or is she taking advantage of black people again? It might be a little of both or more of one than the other, only she knows. Whichever it is, that support meant something to me. I might have misjudged her. From now on I will enjoy 2NE1’s songs without the guilt of supporting yet another culture vulture.

Of course there are others that came out in support. This article https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/k-town/9394672/korean-kpop-artists-support-black-lives-matter-george-floyd brought tears to my eyes. There are some that should have been the first to support but still haven’t and I fear I will have to unstan (I’m looking at you Kwon Ji Yong).

This entire thing has me tired. I’ve been tired. It’s exhausting and it won’t stop anytime soon. As a black woman, this is my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

I am gonna be the bad guy and say it out loud..biggest kpop group in the world aka you know who has done lots and lots of cultural appropriations, called blacks Korean slang for the n word and nobody is ever going to call them out….anybody who does so in twitter is mass reported until that account vanishes……I am glad I never stanned them

    0
    2

Who?!! I think I know but I want to be sure.

      0
      1

you guessed right…they have done so many problematic things and it keeps getting swept under the rug by their legions….it will catch up though at some point…it always does

        1
        0

There’s one word in korean which sounds exactly like the n word you’re referring to but it’s something completely different. Many reactors where very offended by this but after they’ve found out about the misunderstanding in comment section. Homonyms can do lot of harm but that’s the magic of different languages.

      0
      2

that’s not the one……its an old interview in some variety I saw popping up in my feed and it was very offensive….its not like the variety host were themselves were any better laughing at it…its like that Hasan Minhaj piece online….there is deep seated prejudice against dark skinned in both South Asia and South East Asia…they don’t even realize how offensive it can be…the thing is when you use music that originated in black communities in America to make a career, the least you can do is educate yourself….I am not sure that is the case with this group

        1
        1

They don’t think that that’s something wrong but they hate when people are doing the monolids sign on their faces or thinking about East Asians that they are all like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee or call them yellow people. We have a long way to go to understand that skin colour doesn’t matter, nor your nationality, nor your personal background but what matters is your personality and your actions.

          2
          1

Racism has many form but right now the focus is on systematic and institutional racism that happens in mainland USA…East Asians in US or other countries have not been denied housing, their ancestors were not sold, denied rights for generations that put them 100 of years backwards and at a disadvantage in terms of socio-economic development and are definitely not shot on presumption of guilt alone….this are not one to one scenarios. There is time and place for each of these things to be addressed and they should be. We all have some unconscious bias within us thanks to the cultural setup that we were raised in…the issue was about kpop, groups appropriating black culture, using hip hop for clout yet failing spectacularly show any intent on learning more about their history, abuse or offenses. I merely pointed out one example of how stan culture in one hand writes #BLM and in other hand protects their fab group from scrutiny by outright denying they ever have done questionable things or caused severe offense by pretending it never happened and reporting anybody who raises the legitimate questions. I do believe there are haters who try to amplify this for wrong reasons but from what I’ve seen, extremely offensive things have been said and done yet not one word of apology….just sweep it under the rug and nobody will notice is happening at the moment.

            2
            0

I just hope that I’ll get a chance in my life that people will be respected as for who they are and not for the colour of their skin. In my native country gypsies are treated the same way as black people in the US. They’re also admired for their music but the hate is like a tattoo in korean television – they put lot of makeup on it to make it invisible, but it’s there and people are shocked when they see it.

Fingers crossed for you out there that the history will rewrite itself again and this time I hope they’ll cover it with a good law that you can do your everyday life without being threatened.

I’ve never payed that much attention to Jay Park but after seeing him and then as his company show support I might want to. Plus, the Gang remix.

I used to love him but he’s said some things in the last few years that made me dislike him. Jackson Wang too. It speaks volumes as to where people stand when you look at who benefits most from black culture while staying silent.

There is a song from a 1950s Rodgers & Hammerstein musical named South Pacific:

You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear
You’ve got to be taught from year to year
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly laid
And people whose skin is a different shade
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught, before it’s too late!
Before you are 6, or 7 or 8
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You’ve got to be carefully taught!
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

As a white middle-aged american woman I find myself wanting to apologize for all the injustice and horror that you have experienced. (it must be the catholic in me to want to take everything on)
But mostly I want you to know that I feel so much pain right now, and so much anger, and then some hope that maybe things will get better for all of us.
I can’t help but think when Black Lives truly matter then and only then will ALL lives matter!!!

(it certainly was nice to see people protesting at the gates of the WH today) – but mostly I want to say that I care. And I want things to be different and I will try in my old lady way to try and make a change…

Sending you many virtual hugs and much love and strength…

I was reading an article about a female news anchor in Korea causing an uproar by wearing glasses and pantsuits (cause you know…patriarchy) and at the bottom there was a link to another article about the father of the man who ran the world’s largest child porn site. He had the nerve to beg for his 24 yr old son not to be extradited to the US because he faces up to 100 years and not knowing the language or food would be too much for him. You have to be @#$%&! kidding me!! 1) If he doesn’t survive that’s his problem. He shouldn’t have done what he did. (If I told y’all what I really wanted to say you shake your head at me in shame and wonder if I was ok) 2) How DARE have the nerve to say he only did it because they were poor. SIR!!! YOUR SON IS A PEDOHILE who profited off of abuse of children. Wanting to make money doesn’t turn you into a deviant. 3) How in the hell do you only serve 18 months for the world’s largest child porn site?! The justice system, the entire world over, is not just at all. 4)If he was selling it, he was probably doing it. Hang him.

Mark Salling, who played Puck on Glee was arrested and convicted for having a massive child porn collection—he hung himself before he was sentenced.

15 years ago, there was a a 50 something yr old man who lived around the corner and taught at the college in my city who killed himself with carbon monoxide poisoning in his garage 3 days after the FBI raided his house. Turns out, a student narked on him after finding child porn on his computer at the school.

We went to look at his house once it was on the market. He had a room with pink walls and flowers drawn on the wall. He didn’t have any children. I was sick to my stomach when I thought about how many times my daughters had ridden their bikes past his house.

      2
      1

I hope they all wear pantsuits and glasses to protest (sisters unite!). Now I want a pantsuit.

I’m not as out for blood as you are on the other, but life in prison would be much better than 18 months.

    4
    1

Every woman I see on tv in a pantsuit walking with purpose makes me want one.

I have a special kind of hate for child and animal abusers.

      3
      1

And the dad had the nerve to say ‘He hasn’t raped or murdered anyone’ no but what you did is just as bad. He ruined so many children’s lives that will affect them for the rest of their lives. 😔 But I guess this explains why the son is the way he is.

    3
    1

I can understand a father defending his son, because he will always be his son, no matter what he’s done.
I can understand a father wanting his son to serve his sentence in Korea and not in the US.
I cannot by any means, a father trying to excuse an inexcusable behavior. No way.
Now… regarding glasses and pantsuits… just when I thing dramas are exaggerating…

This reminds me of “but he’s an excellent swimmer”.
I didn’t read the article. I’m sick of anyone abusing any human or animal. I try to avoid all such news but that doesn’t negate that it’s not happening. Sick of victims/survivors not getting enough justice and us being unable to do anything. I feel social media also has us just speaking on social media rather than taking any action on the streets or protesting and that puts no pressure on anybody. 18 months is like laughing on the victims. I’m not that sure about the world laws but punishments for abuse are always light and that needs to change. Their life is destroyed I hope they recover but this is heartbreaking.

    1
    1

I will probably never forget the swimmer. I was so happy when the campaign to remove the judge that basically let him off the hook was removed from the bench. Unfortunately, the female lawyer that did it suffered too.

      1
      0

Hanging is not enough! He dies…so what? Everyone dies at the end of the day. That’s not even enough justice in my opinion. 18months is nothing but passive encouragement. That vile creature lost all rights to be human the moment he committed all those atrocities. Him and his accomplices should be thrown into a pit and be violated as they’ve violated their victims. They should never see the light of the day again and be broken to the point they beg for death. Death is mercy for them and they don’t deserve mercy. If I type what I REALLY feel should be done to him, my post will be flagged.
I’ve noticed the pattern in sentencing predators, especially in South Korea, and it’s so fucking ridiculous. There’s always some bullshit about it being their first offense and how their circumstances should be taken into consideration so there’s reductions to their sentencing. The same with that creep Kang Ji Hwan. He was convicted of sexual assault. This fucker even admitted to it (and also threatened his victims who, by the way, were ruthlessly bullied by netizens) but he got 2 years and 6 months but is actually serving a 3 year PROBATION?? and he made some half-ass comments on how he wanted to have a family and be the best father! His defense literally said that the judge should take into consideration that his crime wasn’t premeditated and because of a ‘mistake’, his life is ruined. I know it’s a lawyer’s job to defend their client but how they simply belittled the traumatizing experience of the victims to a ‘mistake’ makes me so livid.
They always want us to sympathize with the perpetrators and consider their families and their lives forgetting how they’ve fucked up the lives of their victims. These perpetrators had a choice in the matter but the victims never did. So why should I empathize or sympathize with vile creatures?
    I’m so mad right now!

    3
    1

You and I have the same thoughts for how pedos and rapists should be punished. I have no sympathy for people like that. I didn’t write what I wanted to say either. Don’t want people thinking I’m crazy. Lol. When I read things like that all I can think about are my own kids. Makes me shudder in fear.

Wow, I didn’t know about Kang Ji Hwan. I will never be able to watch Lie to Me again. Thank goodness Yoon Eun Hye has another drama that I like.

I was looking forward to watching World of the Married but then I found out that Lee Kyoung Young was also a sexual predator. I came across the info looking up the cast from Hyena. I really think he’s a good actor too. Oh well another one for the trash pile.

      1
      1

Same feelings like you guys and it’s not only for child abuse but abuse in all ages. The victims never had a choice and my blood boils when i hear such reckless statements in the abusers defense and them actually be considered appropriate. We need to fight for stricter punishments we’ve let so many people off the hook. I always think of Goo Hara. While her case may be different even her lawyers said her ex bf was given very less punishment (probation for him too) and what happened in the end , GH took her own life, she’s the one who suffered and kept suffering. So many more victims have done the same because they don’t even get closure in the form of justice.

        1
        1

While I’d say hanging is not enough , because what the victims have lost, they’ve lost it already, it sets a precedent. It’s seen as a stricter punishment. And punishments exist to hold accountable and warn other people that yeah this could happen to you if you take this step. Since people are driven by lust in abuse cases if they know that this can cost them their lives, then they might consciously take a step back. Nobody cares about a jail term, heck abusers get away with abuse without ever being caught so jail term is a far off scenario. Also some jails around the world are pretty relaxed, there have been abusers who have served jail term and were back on abusing again. While every human can repent, the abusers can still turn their life back to zero while the victims can’t, that is why this crime should have no leniency.

My thoughts on King: I get the romance. I don’t understand why some dramas everyone finds it ok that there is no reason for them to like each other but other dramas they need a reason for romance to happen or want them to work for it. I see it. She has her guard up and finds him distrustful at first. However, his straightforward and sincere comments start to creep in coupled with the fact that he is tall, handsome and carries himself with confidence but not arrogance. She starts trying to understand him and in doing so she misses him when he goes back home. Once she enters his world she appreciates that despite his title and responsibilities, he makes time for her. He is relaxed and doesn’t hide his feelings from her. She tries to distance herself emotionally by being levelheaded about the fact that they are literally worlds apart but is completely disarmed by his simple statement and question: I will return to you. Will you wait for me? Knowing that they parted when he was possibly going to war and no way to contact him made her miss him even more. I mean they always say “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” After what was said to have been a long time he suddenly is standing there when she comes home from work. She’s emotional and happy to see him not only because it’s been a long time but also that he returned safely so she runs to him. We all know why he’s in love. He’s been staring at her photo for 25 years and has feelings of gratitude toward her role in saving his life. He finally sees her and she’s young, spirited, has an ethical code and beautiful as an added bonus. Boom, love in the making. It makes sense to me.

I mean, of course, to each their own but I get it. There are times when you meet someone and 10 minutes later you like them. You find yourself thinking about them and look forward to the next time you can see them. There is no rhyme or reason to it, you just…like them. I guess I like it when there isn’t a clear reason or they don’t have to work hard to make it work because as I get older moments like that are very rare. That is why I like K-dramas. There isn’t some big reason or slog to get to the romance. It happens because there is just something there that makes the heart flutter.

I’m a big Buffy fan and for a long time I felt the same way about Buffy and Angel’s relationship. I felt that the insta-love made no sense and really wanted the writers to show us how these two feel in love not just tell us. Now, my opinion has changed somewhat and I’m not as bothered.
I’m not sure how to feel about the insta-love scenario in TK:EM but I’ve learned to live with it and appreciate other aspects of the show that keep me watching 🙂

The bowl cut is weird. I like him with hair up though. I also think he looks sort of different from High School King of Savvy, which is the only thing aside from this new show that I’ve watched him in. I can’t really put my finger on why he looks different though.

I have been trying to watch Weekly Idol for the last hour on Kocowa to no avail. I only saw the first 6 min. I sent ANOTHER “fix your damn app” request. I haven’t watched Kocowa in 10 days because their app crashes so much. If I have to watch FMIYM on an illegal site tomorrow, I’m canceling Kocowa. What the hell do I need it for if it never works? My mom will just have to learn how a workaround on her tv. I’m over it.
