Today I learned something really important about the 49 days that usually appear in dramaland when one of the characters is given that exacta amount of time to perform a task or to redeem him/herself.
I never new, but today a good Malaysian friend told me about it, as today it is the 49th day of his mum’s passing.
He told me it was a big day in Chinese tradition because “After death the consciousness takes at least 49 days to travel from one life to the next. Prayers conducted by the living can assist the dead through this journey and can help to guide them toward a good rebirth”.
I’m really grateful to know about this.

Yea, my grandfather (from mum’s side) passed away on May 30th, and we’re in the midst of waiting for the 49th day to come, wherein the family will then need to go to the temple for a Buddhist mass to say our final prayers for his rebirth…. My mum and I are both Christians, whereas the rest of the extended family is either agnostic or Buddhist, so my mom and I will be present for the mass but just observing and not really participating like the rest of the fam…. I’d say that the traditions are more of a Buddhist thing than a Chinese thing

If I remember correctly JB explained this when drama 49 Days was airing.
