You know, he seems like a bit of a psychopath (or whatever the correct clinical diagnosis is, since I know DSM doesn’t use the term ‘psychopath’), but Hee-sung doesn’t seem like a horrible person, if that makes sense. It seems like he’s been misunderstood and mistreated a lot. The confinement of Moo-jin seems pretty bad superficially, but I feel like there’s probably a good explanation. He seems like the type of person who could be bad but isn’t (in this sense, he kind of seems like KMY from IOTNBO as far as I can tell). Here’s hoping I’m right and he’s not a baddie.
The generic term is “psychopath”, but the clinical address in the DSM for it is one type of antisocial personality disorder”. It’s the same thing that Moon Young, from IOTNBO has, but she’s the other type of antisocial personality disorder, the “sociopath” type.
Psychopath vs. Sociopath
>>> Sociopath:
– Make it clear they do not care how others feels
– Behave in hot-headed and impulsive ways
– Prone to fits of anger and rage
– Recognize what they are doing but rationalize their behavior
– Cannot maintain a regular work and family life
– Can form emotional attachments, but it is difficult
>>> Psychopath:
– Fail to recognize other people’s distress
– Have relationships that are shallow and fake
– Maintain a normal life as a cover for criminal activity
– Fail to form genuine emotional attachments
– May love people in their own way
Psych was actually really interesting!! I found that it made me into a more sympathetic and—to a certain degree— a more EMpathetic person as well, because I learned to understand behaviour and thought processes a lot more ☺️☺️
Yeah, in retrospect I often think it would have been cool to study psychology and to have become a clinical psychologist. That, or complete a medical degree and become a psychiatrist. They’re interesting careers, although they also seem very taxing. Also, I’ve struggled on and off with my mental health since I became an adult and sometimes I think it would have been useful to know more about this stuff.
For a time, I actually considered child psychology, but the more schooling I did, I found a love and passion for something else 😅😅 And I’m glad I did, because I agree, a career in psychology seems quite taxing
I think he’s definitely more a sociopath than a psychopath, but so far I’m not entirely sure. There are times where he does seem to pick up, naturally, on Eun-ha and Ji-won’s emotions, and, although there’s a lot of deception in their relationships, I’m not sure the relationships are emotionally shallow/disingenuous or are a cover for criminal activity. So far, I’m split between whether he actually loves them or is just using them; we also don’t have any firm corroboration about whether he’s a murderer or not (although yeah, he’s definitely kidnapped somebody, which is, you know, criminal).
Just watch the drama drag this point on until the penultimate episode of the drama… Possibly even until the very end of the drama for us to be given an open ending open for the viewers to interpret what we may 😅😅😅
After eps 3 and 4 none of that fits his personality anymore. He’s just a cold guy with some trouble with emotions and a dark past. Maybe he hallucinates and becomes a killer, that possibility is still on the table, but that’s another kind of crazy.
If you watch last week’s eps he shows big and small emotional responses and understanding of people’s feelings, none of that matches the classic psychopath and sociopath. Also the most basic trait of usual sociopaths is lack of restraint, they have violent and impulsive responses, he is the opposite. There are more details about this on the recap of ep 4 and others talking about it too, when you are all caught up, please find us there, I’d not want to tell you about something you haven’t found out yet.
Ha!! I’ve seen really cray stuff in my time if Korean drama watching, nothing phases me anymore… It’s just a matter of how much I can turn my brain off in order to let something pass and not have it drive me up the wall with its plot holes

The DSM is a majority of what’s learned in “Psychology 101”, which I took, for universities in Canada 🇨🇦
