Would 10 on 10 recommend Twenty your Life on. Such a good show. It was one of the realistic portrayals of women in their 20s transitioning from university life to workforce. I was sold on this since the very episode when the girls had to confront someone and there wasn’t even one savage girl among them who would throw an amazing come back rather all of them kept pushing the others to say sth (lol), that’s exactly like me and my friends in fact the only savage person was rather shown to be rude who later grew so much.
Pros of TYLO:
1. All characters are real human beings, no villains, no perfect people. Everyone had their flaws and they overcame it. Plus there is a huge range of different characters. None of them fits in a template. All are multi dimensional characters with different backgrounds, families and personalities that they seem totally real.
2. The romances were all secondary. This show was totally about the girls and not their love stories. So in any part, their lovelines were secondary to their issues, ambitions etc. All the men were even in description written as secondary characters and the girls as the main ones.
3. The lovelines were though handled very well and I liked how the girls were very firm about their decisions, I was proud of them.
4. It was a very fun watch but it was also realistic. So it was never overwhelming but always great. Unlike many dramas, it shows that the 20s are a tricky time of life where one day you might fail, next day you’ll succeed and the next you may have to start again. Plus these hurdles may keep coming. So it’s basically a bumpy road not an uphill journey.
5. This show has a real glimpse of the owner-employee relationship. One of the only good businessman (president) portrayal I have seen in dramaland which shows that these people aren’t good for nothing chaebols but people who are very strict about their work and even the thought of any relationship in that dynamic isn’t a smooth journey.
6. The monologues for each episode were excellent and wrapped the journey of the girls and other characters very well.
7. As the drama’s title says, Twenty your life on, the show ended like a typical slice of life showing that their journey continues. But it was so satisfactory .
Cons of TYLO:
1. While I totally think this show and the growth of each character required 40 episodes, maybe slice of life and coming of age shows should always have lesser episodes. They become hard to marathon because they don’t really have cliffhangers or crack factor so unless you are invested in the characters, it is hard to keep going. I was fully invested but I still wished it could be around 30 episodes.
2. Too much overt PPL lol. I don’t mind it but if someone else does there’s a lot here.

Overall I’m going to miss TYLO as I loved seeing the girls go through their last year on tremendous work and life experiences. It is a light hearted, lovely watch while being meaningful. I even teared up in the last episode because it was reminiscent of my university days and how I was totally invested in these girls and so proud of them by the end, that it felt like I lived the journey with them.

Adding this one and “Nothing But 30” onto my “To Watch” list!!!!

Sure do. Both are by the same production company so I’m guessing nothing but 30 might be equally good too.

was already thinking of watching it but your recommendation post confirms it for sure : I’ll start it in September (now I just have to make it happen before the end of September haha).
Already loving the fact that it’s a slice of life show, I am even more into them lately ^^’
As for PPL in Cdrama , I just laugh it out, ’cause it’s on some ridiculous level sometimes x)
Many thanks for the post about it ^^

September has started, I’m hoping you have started it too lol.
This was very good but I do know some beanies didn’t like it, so idk how this will fare for you. But in my opinion it was very wholesome and a more realistic portrayal then most kdramas when they tackle a certain age and the challenges that come with that. So I loved every bit of it, especially how the romances were secondary and the women were the most important, which is so so rare in dramaland, especially cdramas.
Haha well yeah the PPL was outrageous but I wasn’t bothered much, I got a good laugh.

Hi Wapz 🙂 , hoping you’re doing well, I’m back on DB , having 1-2 months of fanwall to check ^^’ , started with the notif.
So I did watch Twenty your Life on ,from mid-Sept to end of Sept. , so yay I managed to watch it in Sept. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll slowly make posts about what I’ve watched.
Long story short : I liked the drama a lot, among the four girls, the one working in Finance was my fav’ (sorry I’m bad with remembering names)… but turned out Director Zhou Xun was my crack (haven’t forgotten his name yet ^^’).
I loved the slow pace, realistic tone but I understand why some Beanies didn’t like it, it’s not everyone cup of tea, well to each their own ^^’.

Hope you’ve been well kudo, welcome back!
Yay so glad you liked it 😁
Many beanies didn’t so I was thinking if my choice has changed but looking back at this post, I totally enjoyed and liked this. Oh Zhou Xun was a very good buisness man portrayal. Being totally invested in work, keeping only that first. Jin Shija played him very well. But I was very proud of Xiao Guo (finance girl) for rejecting him. She cried for him and tried her best but this was practical that both of them shouldn’t be together. I liked all the breakups infact because even if the audience rooted for the relationships we knew that it is indeed better for the girls to not pursue it. That is why I said the romances were second, the girls were first. This story was solely about theit journey.

gotta admit I wasn’t that much invested in the other three girls’ journey, couldn’t relate to their personality or hobbies , don’t know how to put it.

“even if the audience rooted for the relationships we knew that it is indeed better for the girls to not pursue it.”
At one point , I was eager to see director Zhou Xun on screen even if I knew romance was second, so when she decided not to be with him, I knew it was the right decision for her but it still hurts a bit ^^’.
