K-Drama Quote of the Day:
“I’m sure you had so many questions and wanted some answers from me.
I know you didn’t ask out of consideration.
I knew it all along but pretended I didn’t.
Instead, I hid behind your kindness.
I’m sorry and thank you.
Telling the truth is so hard.”
~ Eun-o, Lovestruck in the City ep. 15

Gosh, I don’t want to like Eun-o because she really is selfish sometimes, but thanks to the three schoolmates’ lighting the candle time (confessing in a safe place with friends), I’ll give her slack. (Who isn’t selfish sometimes?) Because she is SO right, “telling the truth is so hard.” And she recognized that she hid behind her friends’ kindness. I think I’ve done that before, too. It makes me want to tell those who are having a really hard time they can hide behind my kindness as long as they need to, and when the right time comes, we can talk and be honest. Bravo for friendship like these three Musketeers have!

It takes courage to confess to her friends and apologize, and still she hasn’t apologized to the person she hurt the most. I can understand EunOh is going through an ordeal and she’s suffering a lot, but she’s dragging others in her pain out of pure selfish and cowardice. I get her, but she could have done better. Because she didn’t want to get caught. She didn’t have any other motivation.
And regarding the friendship between the three, I also thought they were great, Geon and Rin-I were true friends taking care of her and never asking a question, keeping a warm place for EunOh to return. Are they friends goal? Not to me. The way the girls treated Geon after he told them he had broken up with SunYoung was mean, they didn’t pay him attention or cared for his feelings. They only said: you’ve broken up again with someone you’ve already broke up, it’s not important. Don’t they know him enough to know that if he’s bringing up the subject it’s because he NEEDS to talk?

I took it to mean that he could talk about it next candle time, that he could call a candle meeting of his own another night. It could look like they brushed him off, but I hope we learn otherwise. I guess I drew that conclusion when he and Rin-I were at the convenience store and they got the text from Eun-o and he let her have the evening to talk. And we can assume, I think, that they have been there for each other like this for a lot of years. So I hope their threesome friendship is evenly balanced.
I agree that Eun-o is selfish and this is only a first step toward being honest with herself and all the others she’s deceived. And that it is a healthy transformation/growth for her. Glad you’re enjoying watching it too!
