I’m in my C-drama binge era again since the K-drama plate is drying up for me, and saw that a new ZYQ drama just dropped on Viki. He’s in some really good underrated smaller dramas (Butterflied Lovers, Provoke) so was keen to see what people’s impression of this drama was so far! Went to the all knowing land of Reddit, and got a good laugh from few lines in someone’s post about this drama (bless Reddit for being a place that never lacks witty humour ) “ Starring the Jawline of China, Zhao Yi Qin…” 😆 That he probably is honestly, that jawline could cut glass. And then:  it currently seems like every historical mini-drama director is in their Michael Bay era. Ultra dramatic blue and/or orange color grading, ground-level shots, tilted shots, rack focus shots, slow mo, rain, lightning, smoke, silhouettes, the whole plate . Honestly this describes Butterflied Lovers and Provoke to a T (which the Redditor also compares this show to, if that’s a persuasive factor for anyone familiar with Zeng Qing Jie’s short dramas?). Always in awe of the sheer effort that goes into smaller dramas in particular, because you really didn’t have to Director sir/ma’am but you did and I appreciate that a lot.

Everyone’s first impression vibes seem to be good, I shall report back too – wonder if any Beanies are also watching/planning on watching?

    Costume. So pass.
I really haven’t seen him in any recent drama. He was second lead in Accidently in love I think.

I want to see how it ends first, but when I saw that this was from the same production team as Provoke, A Familiar Stranger, etc., and with the same ML, I was super excited! It looks very very Dramatic. I’m looking forward to your report!!

Nah so fair, Butterflied Lover fizzed in the second half so absolutely get wanting to wait. I’m four eps in and it’s quite dark and dramatic but enjoyable!! Will report back proper soon 🫡

It definitely caught my eye but I don’t have plans to watch it just yet. I’d love to hear your comments as you watch!

Thank you for the laughs. Although I bet @bebeswtz (and me too) have something to say about jawline stakes.
Micheal Bay era seems about right.
Looking forward to reading your unfiltered reactions.

I agree with the article— beauty comes in the form of flaws ♥️
His jawline being short a few degrees from “the perfect angle”, all the beauty marks on his face (left side of his nose bridge, bottom left of his bottom lip) that adds interest instead of him having an unmarked face, the constellation of beauty marks on his right ear, his bunny teeth instead of being completely straight (i.e. veneers)…. There’s just so much about him that just 🫠🫠🫠🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I don’t have the words. But it’s not all just about his looks, it’s his personality and who he is as a person and as a human being and how he treats others as well ♥️♥️♥️ He’s just a genuinely GOOD PERSON, and so many people— costars, staff, directors, passersby, etc.— have attested to that and continue to be willing to vouch for him whenever they are asked. That, to me, speaks volumes about a person

HAHAHA okay no you’re right, defs agree with this scientific piece of evidence (and the many many many pieces of evidence in that article). Also so true about his eyes being one of his (many) charming features! Very versatile to switch from innocent to sharp and suave indeed. Also yes quite literally has ZERO bad angles 😍
