I assume this is Samsung PPL… The question is: do any other smart-phone companies even presume to do PPL in Korea, or do they all “know their place” ?
(Abyss day 16)
But LG is known for bad batteries in their phones that overheat 😰😰😰 Maybe that’s the reason they’ve found their place and don’t try to push their PPL for their phones anymore, and Dyson seems to have overtaken them in the home appliances department
Well, the performance is irrelevant. The company’s budget in advertising is the main reason. Not many Korean households buy $300-$400 vacuums but dramas make even the unemployed use Dyson vacuums. The drink that Park Bo Young keeps crying thirsty for doesn’t taste great either. PPL is more a reflection of what companies want people to consume. Not what they actually consume. Of course, after years of advertising, some brands do become mainstream, like Subway.
Signal had LG PPL. I only remember Samsung and LG as two mobile phone brands from S.Korea. Maybe there are others but they copy Xiaomi marketing strategy.
Samsung and LG are the largest Korean phone makers. iPhone is widely used too but they do not advertise through PPL and iPhone’s apple is usually covered with a sticker when the drama characters use it. I have not seen any non-Korean phone maker PPLs. I believe drama production companies won’t even accept offers from foreign companies because they risk losing Samsung and LG endorsements on other products.
SK carmakers aren’t conglomerates like SK electronics makers. So there is very little potential revenue from their other products or businesses. Also carmakers actually don’t put that much money into tv PPL, but real CF time slots. You can see a lot of cars in dramas but it’s not necessarily PPL. PPL is when they show the brand logos and dedicate actual screen time to it, like close ups to the product in use, dialogue that persuades viewers to buy. Most cars in kdramas have the emblems covered with tape.
I know, Hyundai and KIA are Korean cars. I was curious why it’s exclusive for Samsung and LG to place their PPLs on dramas, but it’s different (not exclusive) for cars. I’ve seen non Korean cars in kdramas i.e. Volkswagen, Aston Martin and Ford. I think I’ve also seen Audi in kdramas.
Sph_7 explained car makers prefer CF than PPL.

I just remembered, LG has been focusing on PPL of high end refrigerators and clothing treatment units (those refrigerator looking steamers)

I do recall seeing an Apple phone once in a drama. This was some time ago though.
