Beanie fanwall posts often lead me on all sorts of wonderful adventures – was discussing on Sic and Kas61’s posts about K-actor heights which then had me going further down the rabbit hole of just how tall is Song Kang though fr? which then led me to how tall are C-drama actors which then led me to wait do Song Kang and Xu Kai look kind of similar or is it just me which ties in with the post Cera (@Seeker) made the other week about celeb look a like!

Do they look alike? I kind of think so, not twins but there’s defs some similarities right? Or have I just been staring at both for far too long (answers range from yes to yes ). Idk but they’re both stunning ✨

Oh no, I can’t agree with you here at ALL. Sorry. Answer if yes you have been staring at them for too long.
I have strong feelings about Song Kang’s face (hides). And strong feelings about face structure in general…

It’s the eyes and the eyebrows

IMO it is a yes and yes. 🤣

But if one is not into Song Kang kind of pretty then it would be meh!

I find it interesting how many threads / conversations are there on “the internet” re: celebrity doppelgangers. It is an entire genre. I was so surprised by the V and Wookie comparison because there is no way anyone can confuse them. Here I do see the similarity which is a tad more than just the clothes, styling and camera angles which, if you believe internet can make anyone twins.

I was scrolling without reading and thought in my head, oh that’s Song Kang…but then I was like, wait, isn’t that Xu Kai?? So I went back and realized it was actually both!! xD
    They are similar indeed ahah!

I am with both teams – the ones who see it and the ones who don’t. Yes, because even before this post @lapislazulii , ever since I saw the leaner Song Kang in this drama (this is the leanest I have seen him), my first reaction was he looks like Xu Kai now! But that was maybe only because my recent tour in Cdramaland. But also like @sicarius I have strong feelings for his face, that is, he is the clear favorite because there are better dramas and livelier characters attached to that face than the latter. (Except the ones I haven’t watched i.e. Love Alarm and dropped i.e. Nevertheless 🙄, I even liked him in the Weather drama as there was some sense of reality in it even if both him and it were imperfect. I discovered him in Navillera, and that should explain the love 😉. He was quite muscular back then, right? 🤔)

The similarity has to do with the eyes as lapis said, and the difference comes out when you see how Song Kang’s looks tend to vary with his weight. I have always liked him nonetheless and don’t think the weight loss is necessary, but the fact that reassured me was as Do-hee pointed out – he’s “glowing with health” (or is it just the cosmetics? I hope not!).

As for Xu Kai, maybe happened to catch him in the wrong drama (something husband 🙄) and ever since, I have associated ‘meh’ with him notwithstanding what he plays or how he looks.

So, that’s my totally not required essay on how two people with similar eyes and looks can have different effect on your sense of aesthetics!

Oh! It is a very much required essay. Thank you for your perspective.

Seconding Cera – its very much a required essay!! Thank you for sharing 💕

Navillera is beautiful, I think he was a bit more muscular back then! And on a slight tangent – I do dance but I’m not classically trained in ballet, so to the somewhat amateur eyes it looked like he had quite nice form and lines in Navillera and the same thought came back during the tango scene in My Demon, because his dance lines seemed 👌 .

I think the weight comment is actually such a good observation, because I don’t think I’ve compared the two much before My Demon – something about the styling, the leaner look and the hair even really brought out the similarities with Xu Kai.

Also nOOO I think you’ve watched, arguably, the worst Xu Kai drama out there; She and Her Perfect Husband 😭 If you’re willing to give him another chance, would totally recommend The Legends or Wonderland of Love (both are costume dramas). But also totally fair if that first impression is too strong – he does well with lighter, cheekier, somewhat ambitious roles I think, but also I think the writing was just off in She and Her Perfect Husband (very similar to how I feel about Song Kang in the Weather drama and Nevertheless; I didn’t find fault with him per se, or any of the cast, in either but it’s the writing that was a question mark to say the least).

It is totally due to the first impression as you said, that I have tolerance for my favorite and not the other guy 😅. I think I have since not touched his dramas partly because that’s not my genre (Xinxia). But at the risk of proving I’ve perjured myself in the previous comment 😅 I’ll admit I’m quite looking forward to this drama of Xu Kai, partly because of the FL who happened to be great in Go Ahead https://mydramalist.com/736993-as-beautiful-as-you

And THAT’S actually a good observation Lapis! He has gained a lot from that ballerino role, hasn’t he?

oooh thanks for putting that one on my radar, I also liked her in Go Ahead heaps!! 😍 let’s hope this one is good and does something to chip away at the not great first impression hahaha!
