Want to know whether you should watch Strong Girl Nam-soon? I focus in on writer Baek Mi-kyung; her history and idiosyncracies in a new series showcasing Korean drama writers
I’m really sad to hear that all my hopes of the absurdity used in an intelligent way are built on sand. I love absurdity and overturning … I would love for this scraps of carnival and rebellion to actually make a whole.
But at least, in the meantime, Nam-sin is not just a joke anymore.
Thank you for such a wonderful article.
I really get engrossed in your writing.
I got the same sense of reassurance and of being heard as I did while reading your article on Someday Or One Day.
Well, for Nam-soon at least our half-baked theories and views are endorsed by your much more authoritative voice. That makes me happy.
When @CecilieDK was worried about the “police violence” in the initial episodes I had asked her to just seek it like a “comic”.
I do get a feeling that the writer imagines herself to be a lot more funnier in her head but is unable to translate that on paper.
While I was on the fence regarding the how the spin-off got greenlit in the first place, I wanted to give it a chance. The initial episodes reassured me but then the sudden nosedive left me cold (freezing?) and despite Cecilie’s hard work in preparing weekly gifs to entice Beanies I could not feel it “Melting Me Softly“. I have of course promised Cecilie that I would give Nam-soon a try. Thanks to your article I feel it would now be a better watch.

Ah. I had had these thoughts without knowing the writer–I see that there was actual evidence that I could have brought to bear 😉

This was so insightful! Thank you for sharing it. Wish I’d had this perspective before I started watching SGNS.
