Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

I usually favor fantasy stories, but after Reply 97, 88 and School 2013 I’m really starting to fall for the slice of life dramas. They have so much heart! Starting Dear My Friends now. Hope its good.

I will 😉 and so far I really like it.
      To be honest I’m not 100% sure 😂 but I must have… i think😁

There really are so many wonderful fantasy romance dramas out there.
Does anyone have some more recommendations? They don’t have to be korean.
I also really adored Pushing Daisies.

I have a feeling you’ve seen these before but here ya go:
    Queen In-hyun’s Man
    Arang and the Magistrate
    Secret Garden
    Penelope (US film)
    Just Like Heaven (US film)

Haha I guess I should’ve scrolled down a little further. I was trying to think of more obscure ones but I can only think of the classics everyone has seen lol

Thanks though. My sister told me about Just like heaven. I will check it out soon 🙂

Mmm..if you like Pushing Daises may i suggest Wonderfalls?

::cough:: Lee Pace is the main character’s brother.

      1
      2

I watched it! It was great. Lee Pace is always a great plus. I was so upset that they cancelled it after just one season. That is why I love kdrama. There is one season and that is that.

        1
        1

Really?? I LOVE Wonderfalls. It’s hard to find someone who’s seen it. Yay! Yeah I wish there were more episodes although they did a pretty good job wrapping it up. I appreciate when shows have a clear idea of the how long it will take to tell the story they want. One season, two seasons, etc it really honors the story and audience.

          1
          1

You’re right. I like it when they know where to go with the story. I mostly gave up on American TV Shows, just because they don’t know how to end or cancel shows and they create strange story lines that screw up characters. Its always such a big disappointment when you can see on screne that the show runners are only in it for the money.

He is fabulous in that movie 🙂

Was a bit disappointed to see him in Twilight to be honest.
Well it probably meant a big paycheck for him.

My obsession with fantasy romances started with Meet Joe Black.
I’m addicted to them, that’s probably why I LOVE Kdrama so much.
But why do I only like Bride of the Water God and don’t love it?

Meet Joe Black was amazing, it wasn´t as much the romance as the relationship between Death and the old man that got to me.

It gave me goose bumps. And the chemistry between Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt was outstanding. The relationship between these two characters was really special and elevated the whole movie even more. I still love to watch it from time to time.

School 2013, I LOVE you!
The portrayal of friendships blows my mind.
They are really special and so much more poignant without the element of romance.

I still think that those two teachers get married at some point in the future.
Those two helped each other through personal crisis’ and struggles in the classroom, really got to know the other one and respect their different views, while sticking up for their own beliefs.
That kind of connection is rare and it would surprise me, if they weren’t to recognize that.

Wasn’t it great? One of my favourites especially but not exclusively for the bromance.

    1
    1

Gonna be honest, there was so much heartache going around that I almost dropped it, because I can’t keep watching if it gets to heavy. I have way to much empathy for the characters (which is bordering on the unhealthy) and there was lot’s of it going around every single episode. But OMG this show hooked me so hard, I couldn’t let go and those friendships (not just the boys, but WOW especially those boys) were the most amazing thing I have ever seen. It was really powerful. Are the other school shows that good as well?

      1
      1

I’ve only seen 2013 but it seems they are usually more like this one and that 2015 was a bit different. I’ve been crying my eyes out with some of these shows, recently.

Started watching School 2013, this show feels so real and is great at breaking hearts.
Don’t know if I can finish it though, there are some pretty heavy feelings involved.
But dang these two are cute

You’re gonna love it, after watching this one, I know why school 2015 and 2017 are still far below, it’s not just romance but the real hardcore problem that we face while in teenage years.

    1
    1

I’m starting episode 7 and things are getting real bad… almost too scared to watch.
But these characters feel like real people and its twisting my heart.

It does get quite intense. But then again, the story is never lacking in content. So you will enjoy it regardless I hope!

Does anybody else get the need to rewatch Romeo and Juliet after seeing those pics?

My mom and I got in a fight over Bride of the Water God. She really doesn’t like Shin Se-kyung. On the other hand she is totally gushing over Nam Joo-hyuk and loves him in his long wig. It’s so funny.

For some reason I get “I hear your voice” feelings, while watching “Reunited Worlds”.
Loooove it. I have high hopes for this show 🙂

I hear your voice! One of my favorite noona romance, I think you made quite an appropriate comparison here…though they are supposed to be same age this time, their chemistry works in the same way that LJS and LBY’s did on IHYV, he treated her as an equal on that one lol.

    1
    1

It was the second kdrama I saw and was the beginning of my obsession with noona romances. I LOVED it and I’m so exited because Reunited Worlds has a lot of similar ingredients like: noona romance, knowing each other as children and being separated for about 10 years, one of them not being able to move on because of the other, messy woman, nagging boy, murder, supernatural powers….

      1
      1

Omg, I didn’t see so many similarities, until you pointed it out! Couldn’t have said it better yeah! I loved I hear your voice too, was totally sold by the chemistry, and the domination LJS showed even LBY is almost 12 years (or more) older than him? I am praying hard that this drama will excel to IHYV level, but if it’s something decent, and doesn’t run out of the story at the end, I would be overjoyed. ^^

        1
        1

The chemistry was through the roof at some point I was convinced that LJS was seriously in love with her, but I get the feeling in almost every show he does.

I’m so hoping for Worlds to be great. To be honest I’m a bit scared of being disappointed because I’m really building it up in my mind. It just has such great potential.

          1
          1

Yeah, the chemistry was awesome! Damn, I think I will go for a rewatch soon, now that you mentioned it! ^^
I’m scared of being disappointed too, considering I loved gong shim’s starting, but the ending was a bit lackluster. Let’s hope the writer will do wonders this time!

I was really looking forward to Reunited Worlds and I have to say: So far I reaaaally like it. It is cute and has a hint of melancholy. Exited for the next ep 🙂

Suspicious Partner has left a happy after glow with its final episode.
So lovely.
I loved how the writer was obviously a hardcore shipper herself and gave us all those cute and adorable moments.

I knew JCW was leaving this year for military duty, but I could pretend it wasn’t so. Having a date confirmed makes it just so real now and I can’t delude myself anymore. Next month I’ll sob non-stop.

I cried at my friends when I heard the news, yelling oppa repeatedly like a weirdo. I will probably rewatch healer on the day and then weep.

Busy cutting onions during Ep15 Fight My Way. Really hope we won\’t have a time jump and our couples can sort everything out quickly.

What a mean way to end an awesome show! I’m looking at you Circle!
So who do we see about season 2? I’m craving mooooooore!

9
2

I would rather they had just finished it all in those 12 episodes. I really liked the show but it feels like there are more and more shows that make their ending purposefully open so they can get a second season… Here I can kind of understand why because 12 episodes was not very long to also be resolving the alien plot line but in general I don’t really like to see too many second seasons with kdramas. That’s what bothers me about American TV shows after all…..they just never end and if you don’t like a show it already limits your entertainment options a whole lot.
I hope kdramas can keep their variety and their coherent whole with a definitive ending. A few shows having a second season doesn’t bother me and sometimes I even welcome it, I just hope it doesn’t become the norm.

    1
    1

I feel the same way. I LOVE kdramas because they are compact and the writers can’t ruin the characters with storylines that go on and on and are pure drama, but in this case I really want to know more. I feel they have such a wonderful set up right now. An alien (?) and her origin mystery , a clone (who very well might get an existential crisis) and a dystopian future whose society just crumbled down. I feel there is just more to the story.

Circle is breaking hearts in an epic way!
This story is so amazing and leaves you thinking about it for a long time.
So exited for today\’s finale.

Thought I share a pic of my two suffering kdrama companions, who have to listen to me squeal, whenever Suspicious Partner or Fight my Way comes on.

Felt nostalgic and started watching M*A*S*H. You’d never know it was set in the Korean war, if they didn’t keep mentioning it, seeing as there are almost no Koreans in it. Only pic of a Korean I found

3
10

Oh, Mash is my childhood… We used to watch together with my family.
But I’m pretty sure there were more Koreans in it. Some soldiers, some children… Just don’t know where. 😛

    1
    1

Sure there were some, but that was literally the only pic I could find of a Korean in it 😀
Interesting time period though, would be cool to see a Korean drama set in that time. Maybe a Korean Remake.

Maybe it is a sensitive topic for Koreans? I don’t really know, but war between Koreas doesn’t sound like a safe topic.
Anyways, it would be interesting… But I’m not sure I would watch it, I am too attached to the original. 😛

I don’t buy that. They keep using the separation in a LOT of shows, but I guess war dramas aren’t that popular (apart from DSOTS-but that was more of a lovestory).
I would watch it, but would probably bemoan the absence of Alan Alda. Still have the biggest crush on Hawkeye. LOVE this character and his blue eyes.

Well, I haven’t been in dramaworld that long, so… I guess I might be wrong. 😛
And yes, Hawkey… And all of them. So precious, so memorable, so raw and real.

I love MASH. I am a little ashamed to admit that just about everything I knew about Korea before I discovered dramas and fell down the rabbithole came from MASH. Which, as you say, is next to nothing. 😳

Ah well, am correcting that lack now.

    1
    1

Same here 😀 But I guess we are both busy studying the culture and history now, better late than never ;P

      1
      1

Exactly! And having way too mush fun doing it! (I find myself googling things after every episode of 7DQ, trying to figure out how much is historically accurate and how much is artistic license. And getting miffed that there still isn’t any more info out there than there was last week.)

        1
        1

Googling historic facts always cuts both ways. It is super interesting to learn more about history and what really happened, but at the same time real life usually ends in tragedy and I get bummed out.
