Is it wrong that I am answering everyone who’s watching Squid Game which is EVERYONE that there are uh… better kdramas? I feel conflicted because they all seem so passionate about it but imo there are better dramas and SG did not elicit as much an emotional response in me as I am seeing it in the non kdrama fans.

Maybe this is their first foray in kdrama emotions but SG had them muted too. It’s weird how they passionately approach me and my response is meh because that’s how I feel about it. And when I recommend them other stuff, they are not up for watching it.

Think of it as their gateway drama and maybe suggest some of your favorites that could pull them in even further. I’ve been suggesting Vincenzo as a next drama because first, it’s good. Second, it has the violent (yet fun!?!?) overtones that may be appealing to the SG audience while also having more of the classic kdrama flair. I think it might be a good bridge to full on kdrama addiction.

Right now I’m recommending on my own but it seems like people are more looking forward to the next big thing on Netflix than the next kdrama, atleast the people around me.

I am the same, there are so many better dramas. However I an glad I now have more friends getting into kdramas 😄😄

Yeah totally glad about that. Also someone spazzed about how handsome an actor was and I proudly said “that’s what kdramas do to you” 😂

Are there though? That list of truly good kdramas are few and far between. Kdramas have a list of international remakes along with a formulated programs you can set a clock to.

This comments reads like a show became a monoculture and that bothers you.

If Squid Game did not have the backing of Netflix and its promotions, would you say the same.

Yes imo there are and yes I would’ve said the same had it not been on Netflix. That actually is the issue, I feel that unlike on DB where I can state honest opinions about the show, I can’t really do that to people around me regarding SG. And I guess you’re taking it wrong I’m really happy for the success of SG, these people who have side eyed me for watching kdramas are finally watching and hoping to discuss it with me. But I’m kinda bummed I cannot reciprocate their enthusiasm when it is kind of my chance to introduce them to more dramas through it.
