Musical 200 Pound Beauty set to take the stage

Song Chang-eui (Boys Don’t Cry) poses with pop singer Bada and musical actress Yoon Gong-joo (really, parents, gong-joo?) as they promote their new musical, the adaptation of sleeper hit 200 Pound Beauty.
The 29-year-old Song plays a PD main character, while Bada and Yoon alternate in the lead female role originated by Kim Ah-joong. The names in the musical are changed from the film, which hints that the musical, while sharing the main idea of the movie, may take certain departures.
Song last stepped onto the musical stage two and half years ago in the production of Hedwig, and the actor feels an affinity for the stage: of all the experiences he’s had, “musicals are still the most fun.”
The musical opens on November 27.

I don’t really understand why Gong-joo is a bad name.
Does it sound like a bad/weird word in Korean? Or does it just sound funny?
(Sorry that I seem ignorant…)
Gong-joo means princess..
yeah, gong joo means princess. i’m chinese but i’ve seen a lot of korean dramas so i knew ha. who would name their child princess? =p
AHA. Maybe her parents were hoping for the best when they named her.
lol. SCE looks like a nice guy. but i think the JJM character is sorta bad boyish. hehehe but this looks interesting enough.. hmm actually i know a bunch of people named princess (equivalent of gongjoo?) lol.. i think they though it was like precious child or spoiled kid something.. or cause the kid was pretty..
my aunts dog is princess.. hahhaha :)P
Haha Javabeans, you commented on Yoon Gong Joo’s name last time, too. And I believe your comment was also, “Yoon parents, really?” or something like that
Hey, just imagine what would happen if her parents gave her an English name …
Heh. When I was teaching I bought a teddy bear and asked my (high school) students to name it. One girl in particular pushed really hard for Gong-joo. I hate to sound sexist, but I have a feeling Yoon’s mother was the driving force behind her name.
I’ve never heard of Song Chang-eui, but did he play the title role in Hedwig? If so I think I’m obligated by my love for that musical to become his fan.
and my cat was named Princess… before we found out he was a male cat.
Whee! Song Chang Eui. I liked him and Gong Hyun Joo in “Wedding.”

I know a few people named Princess. Like for real, not Korean “gong joo” but Princess, Princess. Not a big deal.
Mmmhmm. I know someone named Princess, and her older sister’s name is Queenie. xD
It’s kinda weird, though.
Princess? She must of been spoiled to death as a child.
Princess? You’re setting yourself up for trouble naming your child that…..
LoL I know everyone is talking about the princess name but I must say…what is up with that girls knee on the picture? I dunno I just think it looks…weird lol….PS is that supposed to be Bada? from former SES? no way….
ok, I’m going to show you all my ignorance: Javabeans, when you talk about Hedwig do you mean Hedwig and the Angry Inch (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0248845/)? Cos that one is a musical, too, sort of, but the topic is -how shall I put this?- kinda “hot”. Couldn’t find Song on Drama Wiki
Hey, isn’t he the guy who was in Golden Bride? Sure looks like him!!!
PS Sere I found Song on Drama Wiki here: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Song_Chang_Ui
yap, here in the Philippines, lots of Princess’s names too! and it’s a common enough name here…..first notice Song Chang Ui in Golden Bride and love him there and he really can sing! have been trying to watch his latest drama, Scale of Providence but sad to say that I can only find till Eps 6 with EngSubs…..guess it didn’t make good ratings in Korea thus less interest from the netizens about it…..sigh…..if I can only speak Korean…….
OH, thanks for explaining!!!
I’m Chinese as well. I can’t believe I didn’t put the two together…now i feel REALLY stupid…
Yeah, the name “Princess” is a little too…prideful? I never really liked the in-your-face names (as in, names with really obvious meanings)…
@Paula
Thanks! After some googling, I found that yes, that’s the same musical. OMG!
wow, Bada’s looking much better nowadays
but eeekkk about the heels for both girls…. so high o_0

Ugh, this was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in my life- and with a terrible message: “get surgery and everyone will love you!” Why make a musical out of such a terrible movie?
