Extended 15 min trailer for Playful Kiss

Just yesterday we had the new teaser for Playful Kiss, and now there’s a longer cut available (thanks to everyone who sent it to me!). I don’t actually think it’s an official trailer — it feels kind of rough — but it gives us an extended look at the drama.

It seems like Boys Before Flowers has been the main point of comparison for this show, but I’m getting a much more Goong-like vibe, which in my mind is a very good thing. It’s no surprise, either, since PD Hwang In-roi directed Goong; one of my favorite aspects of that drama was its time spent in the school, which seems to be a key point of this story as well.

Furthermore, lead actress Jung So-min has already been called a “Little Yoon Eun-hye” for her facial resemblance to her (if you ignore her eyes, in some angles they look eerily similar), and I anticipate that this role will solidify that image — not only does she have the physical similarity, but similar character mannerisms of Chae-kyung, the role that made Yoon a superstar.

(I still think Kim Hyun-joong looks a bit old for her, but I’m hoping for solid chemistry.)

i guess in some way It Started with a Kiss/Playful Kiss is like Goong- in both stories, we've got the girl who gets herself into awkward situations and the cold prince-like character. In BOF, the prince is hot-headed. I like how they decide to make Kotoko a bit different in the korean version. Looks like she's a bit feistier (I feel like kdrama heroines these past few years are slightly feistier than their other asian counterparts) and physically strong. But she can't be totally dumb if she knows the names of all the suju members. I'm still trying to memorize them.

KHJ isn't that old, but he does look a bit worn out. I've been wanting KHJ to take a vacation and take photos of himself relaxing by the beach in Hawaii or something. He's like always working.

JSM does look a bit like YEH around the mouth. They both have these pouty lips.

Does anyone know about the screenwriter for this drama and what other works he/she has done? Good directing is great, but a drama is nothing without a good writer too even if a chunk of the writing is just adaptation.

I also want to add that it's interesting how despite sharing the same scenes, the taiwanese and korean ones are very different in tone and direction- which I think makes them hard to compare.

The taiwanese one was directed by Qu You Ning, who has a reflective, meandering type of style. The feel is sometimes very grainy and documentary-like. I can't think of a korean director to compare him to. The korean version seems to head for the fairytale, glossy look, which I also enjoy. Goong had a lot of great eye candy in terms of costuming, camera angles, settings, etc.

I can't wait for Playful Kiss so I can check out all of Oh Ha Ni's hairstyles and clothes (probably won't have uniforms when they get to the college scenes).

Some scenes are very similar to the taiwanese version but the taiwanese version still seems a little bit better, I just hope am not going to be dissapointed with this one! I'll definetly watch the first few episodes and see how it feels.

Jung So Min sooo cute! I like her already.

Wasn't able to finish the whole trailer, though. It was like watching a stop animation, then it just completely stopped playing half-way through. I'll just finish it later.

LOL, can't believe they already show the house falling down, the embarrassing love letter scene and the stalker mom....pretty much what the whole drama will be about. Looks like they are going to follow the manga closely...which is good.

i dunno but watching KJH in the trailer now kind of *I'm not putting any hope for an outstanding acting skills performance* vibe from him. However, JSM is gonna steal the show, no question about that. But he's sure pretty, need to tone down the make-up tho'
I'd still going to watch few episodes and see how does it go from there...

I think I will like the mom in this drama a lot...she's so cute, just like in the manga!

If you think about it, KHJ's role in Boys Before Flower is really boring, well IMO. In this series, his role (though perfect again) is more fleshed out. He and JSM seem cute together. After watching this trailer, I can see why people compare her to YEH. I really enjoy Goong, so I'm looking forward to this series.

I wonder if the producer will cover the entire story. Maybe if this one is a hit, they will make a part 2, like the Taiwanese one. I think the story is way sweeter in the second part anywho :)

I can't wait till the series officially start. I love reading the recap, sometimes even more so than the actual episode! Thanks Javabeans :)

Omo.. she does look like Yoon Eun Hye! Even the vibe from YEH's character in Goong! I got goosebumps! But I thought it would be better if there was distinction between both characters. Looking forward to it!

Btw, I don't like Kim Hyun Joong's acting (pardon me) so I really am not anticipating so much from this project. It's just that I fell in love with the taiwanese and jap version which were able to make me laugh my belly button off. I just hope that the korean version has the same effect!

I like the dude doing the Korean version of Kinnosuke Nakamura better then I did the Taiwanese version (sorry all you Fei Lun Hai fans.... Okay, I'm secret fan sometimes too). And it looks to me this version of Kotoko will not be a wimpy female like the original Kotoko.... Or Ariel Lin 's version. Okay, so I'm not a big fan of the Taiwanese version, but I did watch it, even if I did use the forward button frequently. XD

the girl might be the only reason why i would watch this drama if ever. the lead guy can't act, the second lead guy is annoying, and the story is NOT itazura the kiss - a lot of little things and nuances are changed so much,

It actually looks pretty good. I recognize a lot fo the scenes from the Taiwanese version but I think from what I see, the actress is giving this character less annoying attributes than Ariel Lin did. And I agree with Dramabeans, it definitely has a Goong vibe rather than a Boys Over Flowers vibe. I think they compare it to BOF because it's another adaptation of a popular Japanese manga.

I never managed to get into ISWAK, gave up at the first episode, but was wondering....what were Ariel Lin's annoying attributes in that drama?

I've never really been a fan of high school based teen dramas but for some reason I'm really, really excited about this one. Is it because of the way it's been hyped up by the k-pop/drama community? Perhaps. But I was never sold over the BoF craze. Hopefully Playful Kiss manages to close the deal.

uhhhhhh, seems they didn't change too much from the taiwanese version. i was planning on comparing the delivery of the two, but they seem nearly identical.. a few things different here and there. hmm?? i guess i'll just wait and see.

i don't know why people keep complaining about KHJ's acting (and his so-called blank stare) after watching only a snippet of the drama. c'mon people, what's up with the hate? i didn't think he was all that great in BoF either and i actually cringed at his portrayal of my beloved hanazawa rui (oguri shun!), but i don't go around posting comments criticizing him. some of us are actually looking forward to watching this drama, why rain on someone else's parade?

"if you can't say anything nice..."

I don't know why everyone's complaining Ariel's annoying...it wasn't her fault...her character is supposed to be that way...and the manga too. I suppose when it was written...female leads weren't always so strong in those days...haha. Anyway, shoujo mangas have a tendency to make their lead lady stupid but with a heart of gold! And I think Ariel nailed it. I think Ariel and Joe had great chemistry. The Kotoko in the japanese version irks me more...

I think that if we all lower our expectations on KHJ's acting...we will probably enjoy the show more when it airs. It's not fair to judge KHJ based on previous actor Joe Cheng's portrayal....since Joe Cheng pretty much nailed the role with his secret smirks, I'm a genius and your are an idiot etc. moments and his subtle but very expressive emotional expressions through his eyes...that is something KHJ does not have and therefore, must not criticize him and take whatever we can get...that way we will enjoy the drama more.

@ Swui: I agree. I think Ariel Lin was spot on in her potrayal of Kotoko (based on the manga/anime). I was annoyed with the character (at times), but not the actress herself (some people seem to have problems distinguishing betweeh the two). I felt that she managed to make the character endearing in a way.

I got a Goong-esque vibe too!
In one scene where Jung So-min's bangs are not clipped to the side, I thought she resembled Yoon Eun-hye in Goong.

IMO,it's a good thing too.

I hope PK does not become too 'Goongesque' cause while watching goong I really couldnt connect to it cause I felt that the the setting of it really looked like sets, if you see what I mean, especially the rooms of the two leads and the scenery, so am hoping that PK will have a more real look............
ISWAK like someone mentioned before had a more grainy and documentary kind of look, so it looked more real......atleast in my personal opinion.

PK is going to be compared to ISWAK atleast in the begining, I really liked ISWAK 2 the whole thing came to- gether naturally even with obvious glaring defects........the chemistry btw the entire cast was great............
Kotoko is an irritating character, in the manga, in the japanese version and the Taiwan version not much you can do abt it!! but Joe Cheng was brilliant especially in the 2nd part........I hope KHJ does half as good a job

Coffee Prince got me hooked on Korean dramas and i now i can't get enough....this entire summer i've been scrambling from Hulu to Dramafever to Hancinema - Crunchyroll like Whitney Houston looking for a crack fix....I actually started learning Korean cos of it...This website is one of the awesome ones i came across and i live for your recaps and updates.

keep up the good work guys...

Now on to my question about this trailers, what's with the super-short skirt Jung So-min has on...i can't imagine that's how Korean High school students dress to school...Someone should enlighten the Wardrobe person on this drama

The uniform in 'I am Sam' was even shorter, but hey, can't really complain with Park Min Young walking around in it and now Jung So Min ;)

I'm fairly certain Korean school girl uniform isn't quite as revealing as that in real life though. I've seen some serious Korean movies with a more realistic portrayal of high school attire than these two dramas and I can tell you that the uniform used is quite a lot more conservative.

Hm, first impression looks better than I thought. Kim Hyun Joong is playing a more human guy. I really like that. I never liked that too cold Joe in ISWAk who often looked lifeless and bland instead of cold and smart.

And I agree with YEH. They really look similar but I think it is only because their character is and she has the same lips.

Poor Lee Tae Sung. His character isn't very likeable in this trailer. I would be annoyed to dead if someone that silly would woo me, even when I'm stupid like him.
Hopefully he would have the chance to give his character a less silly and more caring image in future.

Hey everyone!

i know we’re all Kdrama addicts here, and i’m going on a 40h fast from Kdramas starting in a few hours. I’m trying to raise some money doing this 40 Hour Famine for the kids in india, cambodia, laos, kenya and to help nepal’s agricultural production.

most people think that starving from kdramas is easy but i know only people here will understand!!

here’s a link http://tiny.cc/lytm8

I hope you can support me in this! (:
