Lee Da-hae drops two films in a row

Lee Da-hae has dropped out of her movie debut(s), 3D blockbuster Song of Springs and Coffee (Ka-bi) (formerly titled Russian Coffee), the latter of which she’d signed on to a few months back alongside Joo Jin-mo.

Coffee is a late-Joseon-era spy melodrama about an assassination attempt on Emperor Gojong; Lee was to have played a Joseon barista who served coffee to him. Yoo Sun and Park Hee-soon are also starring.

With Lee’s last-minute departure comes shooting delays — in fact, it had initially intended to begin filming in December and wrap in April, but hasn’t yet begun. Lee attributes her departure to the delay. Adding to the pressure is the news that Joo Jin-mo has stated he will start looking at scripts for other projects, although he has not yet decided to leave the project himself. Plus, the formerly high-budget production recently had its funds slashed from 10 billion won to less than half that, which makes its planned location shoots in Russia and Japan — not to mention its anticipated summer release — difficult.

Along with this wave of news comes yet more (barely?) veiled criticism at Lee Da-hae, who seems to be dogged with bad press wherever she turns. It doesn’t help that she (in)famously dropped East of Eden mid-drama, and is starting to gain the reputation of a quitter. (Article headlines ranged from Lee Da-hae Drops Movie, Unfortunately to Lee Da-hae Quits AGAIN. Insert implied sigh of frustration as needed.) But you know what, I’ll say it: The woman badly needs a crash course in media training, and perhaps new management.

On one hand, I sort of feel sorry for her, because some of the stuff she’s been hit with is unfair, such as the Chuno hoopla over her exposed cleavage. But I also think there’s A LOT to be said for how a celeb handles herself with the media, and Lee is one of those actresses who manages to always do the thing that makes the situation worse for herself. She comes off as oddly tone-deaf to the tenor of public sentiment, and her defensive explanations carry this weird tone of petulance. It’s like how I always want to give Katherine Heigl the benefit of the doubt, but then she’ll say something so abrasive and stunningly entitled that I. Just. Can’t.

It’s like that scene in Dream High when Pil-sook is ambushed on TV with her old fat photo, and the producers lick their chops gleefully, wanting a shrill meltdown in all its trainwrecky glory…and she wins them over by being adorable and good-natured. That’s what Lee Da-hae needs to do…only she always seems to do the other thing. Please, for your own good, get some savvy management onboard. I do WANT to like you. I. Just. Can’t.

I never understood this whole cosmetic surgery thing. Isn't there an undertone that Asian people are inferior to Whites when you do stuff like that? Isn't that buying into a White Lie?

Why are Asians inferior to Caucasians when they do plastic surgery? My personal opinion is that people do it to fix a part of their face to look more attractive, not necessarily look more white if that's what you mean. A lot of celebrities get nose jobs because their nose is crooked... even white people--> ashlee simpson, ashley tisdale...etc. Cosmetic surgery isn't just an asian thing, they just happen to make a bigger deal out of it.

And I definitely agree Lee Da Hae needs to deal with the press better... it's getting pretty ridiculous. She needs change her attitude- work with the press instead of working against them.

i think what she means is in East asia plastic surgery to "improve" ones appearance almost always leads to a more western look.
Lets take the single eyelid thing as an external observer who is not asian i do not find single eyelids/ nose bridges that do not hit the roof unattractive. and you have to admit that % wise koreans have an unusually high rate of getting plastic surgery.

If the person with the most "average" features is deemed to be the most attractive in each race/ethnicity the korean ideal does significantly deviate from "korean" features. (look at their celebrities)
i believe one day this will change but society has to change first.

Gosh her face looks like cement. Too much plastic surgery it's ridiculous!

If you dont post her name as the title I wouldn't even know it's her. I have nothing against surgery for slight enhancement, but not when it makes the face of the person totally different.

Her face doesn't look normal anymore, maybe at first she just wanted to fix parts of her face that she's not comfortable with, nut then totally got addicted to plastic surgery once she started.

Keep on dreaming everyone sees it. It's just too bad that you are in such denial. Fans have such blinders when it comes to their fave celebrity like you.

I think it's just you and exaggerated minds like yourself.

I think it makes people feel better to say others are "ugly" or "fake" because it somehow makes their life seem more beautiful.

:)

All I have to say, if you're so real, don't use make up, don't shave, etc and be all natural. Then come back and we'll talk about real. -_-

I just read her tweet response to the dress situation for the first time. It's really not bad. I mean it's very well written, except that she may have gone little too much towards the end when she said that she don't know if she can live her normal actress life and etc. Otherwise, it's very nicely written and it doesn't seem overdone. Most of the tweet seems okay for me^^ But I guess it would have been better if she just ignored the whole thing, which is difficult for any person to do.

Dude, there was nothing wrong with her response to the dress incident. Shoot, if I was super star and everyday I had people hating me from all directions for stupid things like that, I'll go crazy too.

Maybe this is why so many stars kill themselves... or use drugs... or other means of escaping from evil people who are like piranhas attacking fresh meat. -_-

actually her response towards the dress issue are weird. i think its too overreact. i agree she's one dramaqueen, but still, her reaction is so beyond what i thought.

i tried to justify why she overreact ith the dress issue, while if the same issue happend to other actress, they would probably just explain what that white cloth is, and be cool.

so my conclusion is: because of her all vain. she wanted and thought she's the most beautiful person there. and she's confident with it. suddenly something stuck between her leg, and she's soooooooo embarassed. how would you feel? XDDDD

she feels that she is that intelligent and beautiful...... so she cannot handle criticism wisely....

the way she criticized how the Filipino speak English language proved that she is that fool and arrogant...does she have the good command of the language?... I DOUBT IT! THE WAY SHE GREET IN ENGLISH DURING THE KBS DRAMA AWARD LAST DEC 31, 2010..... was that what she called a good command of the language? after insulting the Filipino, all this thing came to her, abruptly losing her popularity... because i do believe in KARMA Ms. Lee, i do believe in KARMA...

It seems like several people criticizing YEH lately while acting like they are fans of other actresses, and this seems like an anti YEH fan's comment.

I honestly can't bring myself to hate her because MY GIRL is one of my all time favorite dramas and I always think to that character when I read about her somewhere.

The media nitpicks and attacks her for the stupidest things. MAYBE there's, oh I don't know, a REASON as to why she's dropping these two films. Just a thought.

People act like she's their vessel to greatness or something. As if she has to bend to all their whims and woes. -_-

Like I said, the girl is HUMAN. She deserves to have a say and a voice in whatever she wants to do. And before people start tripping about how her choices affects other people, all I have to say is: If you're so sincerely worried about those other people, please donate money to them and support them in their new jobs, etc. Instead of just instigating and insulting... Do something productive!

I've never watched My Girl, EoE or even Robber (even if it's Jang Hyuk play as the main lead) But I did watch Chuno. Most of my friends who already watched her in her previous dramas are mostly not really fond of her, they said she's too fake and always play safe roles. I don't really find her like that at first. I tried to be a neutral viewer, I was like yeah she's pretty and all (though I found it later that her beauty is not 100% original aka handmade beauty). But after I watched Chuno, I realize in some part that LDH seems to have a tendency to make herself looks too diva-ish, as if she's trying to shout to the world "hey look! I still look gorgeous even if I'm playing a slave role" like that. And that quite disturbed me when I was watching Chuno. I tried to bear watching all her scenes and I even tried to like her even just a bit, but I just can't (just like JB).

And I just realized it by now, I don't really like actress who went under the knife, meaning plastic beauty. LDH, PMY, NGY. woot. I couldn't help it. I'm a sucker for natural beauty. XD

I was her fan before because of her talent, she is indeed talented, but I saw other actresses performance also, and they are talented as well.
After reading all the comments and read all JB articles about her, from her unprofesional exit from East Of Eden, her plastic surgery ( Thank you JB, if not beacuse of you, I don't know she is plastic), and he diva things-I concluded that there is something wrong on this girl.

I have no respect for any one who has terrible work ethics, her careless actions effect other people and she need to be more considerate of others. I'm shock that they still come to her, she dead weight. I haven't seen any drama where she "WOW" me with her talent and what the other thing? oh yea beauty!

You know what really makes me mad? When people claim not to like someone they don't even know because of what some article or magazine says... Or because they interpreted something another way.

Grow up people. If you're in the public eye and is always pressured to be "perfect" and one little thing goes wrong, the whole world points at you and turn it into news, everybody starts hating. What the heck is that? Man, i feel bad for these actors and actresses who have to deal with rude people who don't have anything better to do with life and so come online and complain.

-_- Be strong LDH and all other actors/actresses out there. I am sorry our society cares more about stupid things like what you wear, then things that actually matter... And keep your head high, darling! You're HUMAN and have choices like the rest of us. You go ahead and do what you want, k? :D Don't listen to cry babies who have nothing better to do.

Good day to you all.

What's with this actress, she flits in and out of production project ? Is she a prima donna of sorts ? Well then ,she should inspect everything before she steps in anything next time .Better yet why doesn't she produce her own drama -then she can control everything .

I used to admire her being brave to step out of any venture where her character development was not made well ,but it has become a pattern with her . I am even surprised she still gets offers. There are so many actresses out there what is so special about her ?

Unfortunate to hear things going so 'roughly' for LDH. I've become fascinated by her since watching Green Rose. She has this innate grace in her emotional expression that is particularly appealing, at least to mine eyes.

I won't comment on her bad press because I haven't read any of it. Nor do I have 'inside' facts into what actually is happening. I find it strange though that comments like:

"You know what they say, when there’s smoke, there’s fire. So news of her being a diva and all, I suppose there’s some truth to that".

Can be used to establish any sort of truth. Pure speculation based on sensational media coverage never made much logical sense to me.

Lee Da Hae is too superficial after her plastic surgery. She looked better in her "My Girl" days. The harder she tries the more artificial she looks. I likes Micky and hopes that this drama will give him due credit.

YAH... i hope the their new drama will have a positive response.....

me honestly is not that excited to watch her new drama although i really like Micky (as in i like him), they are not that compatible on screen.... much better if they give the role to the girl who plays second lead, they have a chemistry on screen than LDH.
LDH looks like an older sister to Micky..honestly, i already watched the teaser.

LDH looks like a mannequin now (no offense to her fans)..look at her face now, her looks is much better than before, during the filming of east of eden.
