A Dramabeans Meetup? Vote!

We’ve had a lot of requests over the years for a Dramabeans Meetup, and while that seemed like a good idea in theory, we were always daunted by the reality of prying ourselves away from our screens, putting on pants and venturing into the sunlight. And then somebody suggested, “Nighttime could work and pants are still optional.” The idea was too genius not to consider.

So before we get really serious about putting on pants, we thought we’d ask you if you’d be interested in coming to such an event, to gauge interest. Because it would be really sad to be the only two people at our birthday party. [I dunno whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout. My mom will be there. *throws confetti* -GF]

As it turns out, we’ll be heading over to New York next month — who knew there were classes on Hallyu now? — which strikes us as a good time to test out this Meetup experiment. Unless the poll results say otherwise, that is, in which case you can stop reading now and we’ll turn away to cry into our ice cream. Votes?

Clearly we know exactly what we are doing and have no need of any help whatsoever in planning such an event because of our extraordinary foresight and stellar planning skills… but okay, we’ll open ourselves up to offers of help, if you insist. Does anyone have great ideas for meeting places? I’m sure we can scrounge something up, but right now our best idea is huddling somewhere in Central Park, fighting with the squirrels for space. Those bastards can be vicious.

And if you do think the Meetup is a fun idea but wish it were in your hometown, tell us where you’d like us to go next, and maybe we can make it happen!

I would love it if you guys came as close to Alabama as you could; Atlanta would work (that city always gets overlooked)...I'd totally be interested in a meetup if it were close enough!

just an opinion but since most of us can't fly because its either too far or we don't have the money for it. we should first establish A BEANIE DAY then have main gathering points like one at L.A California another in Texas and another in NY and then one for each country that unites here and we could do like a Skype session to meat other BEANIES and if possible each year for java and girlfriday visit a different location. what do you think people? java and girlfriday????????

ooh - i like this idea! like mini flash mobs, but less dancing and more soju. each site could record conversations or at least take a bunch of pictures. contests for dressing up as your favorite drama character, speed eating jajangmun contest, umm . . . best other things! but meet up, geek out and rock on!

I think that if you guys hook up with a university and have their Asian club invite you, you could go virtually ANYWHERE. My biggest bet is California's UC Irvine, but I'm sure many UC schools will love to host you. :D

In any case, you guys are amazing. Always sending good thoughts your way!

No on Central Park, don't want to be raped by squirrels. Thankfully we could hit a library, or any other public indoor venue with free security, unless you will be providing mace.

As soon as I read the title of this article, I knew the meetup location would be somewhere where I'm not. :( I can't make it to New York, but I would've loved to have met up with not only javabeans and girlfriday but all the beanies. I love our tight-knit community here. And fangirling with all of you. <3

Hi to fellow indos on db! Say how bout we organize a meetup for beanies locally? It would be great to meet people and talk aout kdramas. Nobody around me watches kdrama, so its always a bummer that I have no place to rant/go crazy bout dramas.

SO fellows jakartans, interested?

am a huge fan of dramabeans, unfortunately am located on the other side of the world from NY...12am for you is 12pm for me. Still, if I happen to be in the vicinity which is quite unlikely as I hate to fly more than 12 hours....I'd want to meet javabeans, heads and say that you guys are doing an absolutely awesome job. it's real irritating that DCMA is on a warpath....the stations need to know it's free marketing for them, and i've purchased many a series because of the recaps.

If you have an Asian meet, I will do my best to be there! Cheaper to hold in place like Malaysia/Thailand. If in Malaysia, I would help you big time ^^ it is my forte organising and planning - events - I would do it for free of cause and do everything according to whatever budget everyone wants ^^ it's my hobby events *winks* I suggest you do one in Seoul Korea too! We can like do a dramaland tour with Dramabeans how about that? - woooooo what a blast it would be! I can organise it cheapest of the cheap or whatever budget - and do it at cost for I don't do this as a business! *chuckles* I'm getting excited over an idea LOL - but truly it would be my dream holiday - visit Seoul with Dramabeans and the likes, touring all the drama sites, cook traditional food like Dae Jang Guem, drinking soju, go to the spas and hit an egg on my head while wearing the towel knotted at the sides, visit KBS, SBS, MBC what the heck TVN etc. would be great too, meet some stars on the side LOL, give them a chance to give us their autographs? OMO LOL I'm mitchin neh? LOL, call out Ajummah / Ajumoni to the street side stall food sellers, go to Everland, maybe have amnesia together for 5 minutes? kekeke, then get a camera to pan 360 deg on our group having a blast in front of the Blue House, wear traditional korean clothes at a palace and shout out "Chonahhhh", do a gangnam style flashmob on Myeongdong street, take the bullet train to jeju and have a go at the casino, jump on the rocks in the man made Cheonggyecheon river/stream .and take pictures with Lee Soon Shin LOL ..... shop at dongdaemum, ok.. I am getting ahead of myself... anyway... if ever! Just give a shout and I'll be there! AJA-AJA hwaitin'

Okay so I don't see anyone from western PA or the east side of OH, but my April & May are pretty booked.

But I love the idea of a tour of college campuses where you do the 2 hour lecture/question time on the relevance of free market blogging and the expansion of cultural knowledge and the businesses who capitalize on these trends then there is the meet up afterward where the freedom of Beanie-land is proclaimed.
Nothing like a lecture series to finance a world tour. LOL
I prefer to lurk but I would definitely come to a a beanie meet near me.
