Gong Hyo-jin’s ghostly date for Master’s Sun

Shooting on SBS’s upcoming drama Master’s Sun (or heh, if we’re going by the literal/punny reading, Mr. Joo’s Ms. Tae) is now well underway, and here we have some shots of series leads Gong Hyo-jin and So Ji-sub, as well as secondary lead Jung Ga-eun.

To explain the title pun further: Gong Hyo-jin plays Tae Gong-shil, hence Ms. Tae (pronounced tae-yang)… who was once “as bright as the sun” (sun = tae-yang). Geddit? Oh, Hong sisters. Okay, I can’t be mad about your lame puns this time because I kind of love them. However, once Ms. Tae suffers an accident and starts seeing ghosts, she has trouble adjusting to her new affliction (understandable) and sinks into gloominess. Don’t blame her.

In the stills pictured here, the character is all set to kiss “the man she loves” but happens to see a ghost at exactly the wrong moment and screams. Great, so you not only have to deal with the dead guys hanging around, but now they’ve gotta cockblock too? Bummer.

Her partner in the scene picture above is comedian Lee Sung-woo; though he’s playing a love interest, I presume it’s a quickie guest appearance. Gotta leave room for the main romance, after all, with our main man So ji-sub, who happens to be her boss. One might call him master. You know, just in case the pun hadn’t set in yet.

So Ji-sub plays Joo Joong-won (aka joo-gun, which means both master and Mr. Joo), an arrogant, cold-hearted shopping mall president who sees everyone’s value in terms of money. And is that… a ghost I see next to his car?

Master’s Sun will follow I Hear Your Voice on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering on July 31. First ears, then eyes; which paranormal ability will we be hitting up next, I wonder? Tasting colors? Smelling sounds? I volunteer myself to touch choco abs. You know, for the sake of dramaland and all.

I'm all for Paranormal being used in dramas if it's done cleverly and with a BIG heart...
I like puns too, silly as they are. ^^
Trying to have low expectations for this but failing miserably. Please be good!

You mean Gong Hyo Jin? I think she looks not as good and she looked much more cut with dark hair when i saw her recently in Greatest Love.

Yeah I almost wish I didn't notice it. Will now watch all episodes in broad daylight.

Just in case. I am chicken this way, would die of a heart attack if anything jumps out at me in the middle of the night. Which is when the raw episode comes out.

Heart attack vs lesson in patience. :-(

I think that is Gong Hyo Jin wearing coat behind the car because it's stated on the spoiler that they will meet in a *something that has car in it* where Hyo Jin saw Jisub's dead girlfriend beside him. Hyojin touches jisub, then all the ghost disappeared, that's why hyojin wants to be with jisub all the time.

Ohh~ too much spoiler :D

I wasn't really interested in this at first, but now, with more of an explanation, I find it interesting. The Hong sister's really disappointed me with Big, of which I could only sit through about 4 episodes, but I do love their other dramas, most notably Best Love and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. And this sounds really cute. Plus I was really impressed with Gong Hyo-jin in Best Love and Pasta, so I'll watch partly for her. So Ji-sub is another part, obviously. And the third part is this is the Hong sister's next drama. I just really hope they don't disappoint me.

Why would a ghost need to wear a raincoat in the rain?

Ghosts actually don't need a raincoat or any other clothes, but because their mind got used to think that they do need something under certain circumstances, they express thier forms as such. In other words, their mental bodies (they don't have gross bodies like us) express their inner desires and habits.

*Maybe spoilerish******
Apparently, the heroine sees them the way they died (outfits and injuries). 6th sense vibe.

Yes, in eastern philosophies the sixth sense is attributed to mind. So, she may see them the way they died, but that's because how they see themselves. It can also be the writer's choice to show them that way.
However, that's not always the rule. Sometimes spirits of elderly people may look much younger and quite different from their deceased bodies.

This is something I learned from different ancient scriptures.
Don't be scared. You can just ask them to leave if they bother you.

Thank you for the explanations of the puns. I'm a punster too, so I think it's cute to be let in on the joke.

I guess this is the season for ghosts in dramas with Master Sun and Who Are You? Love ghost stories, but I think this one will be funny, not scary. Love the actors in both dramas, so can't wait.

The whole vibe gives off a gripping ghost'ish creep. Oh well, I guess that's the point. Atmospheric + comedy + cutey romance + good plot + good acting == great drama. Should be, at least. Let's pray it does come to that. Looking forward to it!

I am actually pretty excited for this drama!

I am not a crazy Hong Sisters fan (though I have definitely enjoyed some of their dramas) and I have never seen either of the two leads in a drama before but I am totally keen for the ghost set up!
I am quite hopeful it will be really good!

Horror romances are so much fun!! :)

so ji sub looks neat and clean and a lot thinner. i guess it's not him himself, since i often see him with beard and careless look outside the drama territory. actually i don't know what to expect from this drama, i love him with his pokerface in ghost but don't remember if i ever liked her before though i watch her several times.

I have a feeling Jung Gaeun's busybody character's gonna make me want to reach into the screen and punch her in the nose, much like Park Soojin in My GF is a Gumiho.
