The first teaser for SBS’s Heirs

That is quite a suit you’re wearing there, Lee Min-ho. It’s ridiculous, but also kind of awesome. They talk about clothes making the man, and it’s true that you take one look at his get-up and know pretty much who you’re dealing with. Loaded, arrogant, maybe a little fussy? It’s all there in that suit.

The teaser for Heirs isn’t really much of one, in that it feels less like a preview and more like an extended roll call for the cast. See how everybody gets little crowns to indicate they’re one of the titular heirs who rule the school and the future world? Everyone except Park Shin-hye, naturally, the poor rich girl who nabs the hero’s heart.

I’m still waiting to see how this is going to be different from the very obvious setup, because it’s going to be different from the very obvious setup, right? As much as I’m all over this show, I really do want it to be more than the same old same old. ‘Cause I’m pretty sure we all say Boys Before Flowers, right?

Heirs follows Master’s Sun and premieres on October 9.

I'm also hoping that something about the drama will make it stand out. I mean...there has to be a reason that Lee Minho and Park Shinhye chose it...right? My heart tells me so, my head says no.

Well, either way I am looking forward to it and am going to watch. :P It would just be nice if it's good. xD

BOF was a mess but got good ratings and got sold to many countries = loads of money to actors in it.

So if they have a chance to have a BOF all over again from a famous scriptwriter, of course they'll accept it, doesn't matter if the script sucks because it'll bring the fame and money they want.

Amongst the cast, I'm most excited to see Woo-bin, Joo-eun, Min-hyuk (he's so CUTEEEE here!!), and Ji-won.

I legit spitted out my drink with that line....and then proceed to rape the repeat button.
To be honest that part is actually kinda cute, only because Lee Min Ho is saying it ;]

0

The look of horror that struck my face, lol. The look of horror that struck HER face. Hahahaha.

0

I am so glad i wasn't putting anything in my mouth at the time cause i literally bursted out laughing at that line, mostly because it came out of nowhere.

0

Oh no! Why did they give him speaking lines in English?!?! I was totally caught off-guard...I don't know if it sounded good or not actually...gotta replay it again...:D

0

I totally laughed at that part since it caught me unawares. And yet, if Lee Min-ho could say that to me....

Everyone's so freakin' good-looking. I'm excited and afraid that this drama will be my new crack drama.

They said this would be like Gossip Girl, but aside from all the pretty rich kids there's nothing Gossip Girl about it. The first season of GG was amazeballs because of how fucked up everyone was but I guess you can't have that in a K-drama.

One guy? hehehe...yeah once the count reached more than four for me, it was pretty much guaranteed that I'd have to watch. Maybe that's the plan?

Unfortunately it also means that things have to be really bad, and I mean really bad before I stop tuning in and that might never happen because well, look at all the prettiness.

I'm doomed. Drama, 'tread softly because you tread on my dreams...'

Min-Hyuk, Min-Hyuk. all those Hyuks so hard to remember

you must understand korean names are the most difficult for an estonian person. so confusing. all those syllables.

ah but gonna remember the puppies´ name for sure now.

0

I wasn't singling you out or anything. In front of all that prettiness, I tend to just stare, point and drool too, hehe.

Yeah Min Hyuk is on my list too. I've had my eye on him ever since the I'm sorry MV where he really stood out, I mean from before. Not sure why, I think I just liked the angsty vibe of the MV, but here he's playing something softer BUT still, I'm not complaining.

I don't know much about the Estonian language, for which I apologize, I can't understand the specifics of your difficulty. Coming from an English/Asian background, I would confess I found it difficult too but like you, I made the effort and I would say I am able to introduce/reference actors/actresses respectfully...well after all that staring and oogling..hehe

0

aah aah no sorry sorry I did not mean you specifically, I meant...uh I meant nothing specific reall, never mind me.
not important just blabbing

0

hehe, let's just blame all that prettiness.

0

Another Estonian Tervitused!

And I have to agree, Korean and to me also Chinese names can break my brain to actually remember. I often can watch trough the whole drama and by the end of it still not remember for certain what the characters names were.

For some reason though I remember Japanese names a little bit easier.

Nice to know another Estonian watches the shows!

Based on her last dramas, you can see and know what the writer will bring on or at least what expect.

Her last works weren't that good too, overated is the word.

We didn't watch the drama, but they already gave us the plot and by it we can know where the story will go or is trying to go, someone smart can know this much.

''Don't watch it'' who are you to say this to someone?

The story can be trash but I'll watch if there is the actor I like and his character is good at least.

And people can still dislike a drama but watch it for some character.

lol. this entire thread is making me weep.

0

Uhhh... BOF was written by Yoon Ji Ryun who is not KES.

Second, writers change all the time. You don't know what it has until you actually see an episode. I've had writers I've hated their guts for *cough* The other Hong Sister *cough* and then bite me later.

Let's just face it, Over the Rainbow was crap almost up there with Prince's First Love and Thousand Years of Love. However, I still gave them a fair shake and was rewarded with The King2Hearts.

And I've had directors and writer combinations I've loved solidly and they just go and make crap later because they rest on their laurels. Dong Yi.... and then you get the crap called Horse Doctor. (And I watched the entire thing, waiting and waiting for them to turn it around...)

And KES runs literary, which is not popular with this website's hosts. Having an opinion that it's trash, doesn't mean it's universal for everyone.

I give everyone a fair shake to improve, probably with more patience than most.

And no, I don't expect you to agree, but it would be nice to see respect for other people's opinions and the ability to *maybe consider giving everyone a fair chance to succeed. I'll even watch Michael Bay if you stops giving me nausea and ADD. (holding a shot for more than 3 seconds)

How can one know how a fruit taste like unless one eats it?

Btw BOF is one of the best known kdramas worldwide and had high ratings in Korea. I like ,millions of others love it , flaws and all. As opinions are subjective, many of us love the awesome chemistry between the main leads,Jandi character was brought to life by GHS , and GJP wouldn't be GJP without the curly hair or LMH .

Hate BOF as much as you want but fact is that it was a superhit in Korea with over 30% ratings and its popularity worldwide is second to none.

"Heirs will be good because it has writer of SG and setup of BOF."

You're equating popularity with quality, which I (strongly) disagree with...

0
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

But popularity IS one of, if not, the main factors deciding whether a drama is "good" or not. Sure, a good plot, characters, acting, directing, cinematography, all those are ingredients of a good drama. But if the drama lacks the power to draw in viewers, that is not such a good drama either. After all, we are talking about TV dramas specifically tailored to attract as many viewers as possible, not some artzy-fartzy production meant only for critics.

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

I will agree with mass appeal = successful, but not good. As you say plot, characters, acting etc cannot make something good without also being able to meld it all together and create something which draws people in - the same is also true in reverse, you need also the first things you mentioned, not just the popularity.

And I don't think it's necessary to make it into extremes like good TV dramas or artsy fartsy critics bait... It's possible to have artistic aspirations while also wanting to entertain!

0

Required fields are marked *

This is your opinion of what is a good drama, which I respect. But other people have other ideas, which is not wrong either. What we consider a good drama is very subjective.

0

Which is pretty much my point, Messi is drawing a logic argument which is flawed:
BOF is popular.
SG is popular.
Heirs is BOF+SG, thus Heirs will be good.

Does not compute. An understandable logic conclusion from this argument would be "Heirs will be popular", but since popular and good are not synonymous you can't get to there from here...

I'm not saying people can't find BOF and secret garden to be very, very good - we will never all agree on everything and that's a good thing! I'm simply pointing out that popular and good aren't the same thing.

0

Buwahahaha, never realized you were critiquing on her powers of logic.

The only way this would really be plausible would be if these characters were what they look like, which is 30 year-olds who are part of a high-end therapy program that requires them to act out their high school fantasies. Of course, behind the scenes is a clever prosecutor who is certain that one of them is the psychopath who murdered four students at Whispering Corridors High and made all their deaths look like typical classroom accidents.

Can I get a contract to script-doctor this series when it starts tanking around episode twelve because the writer and director are both obviously clueless?

I can't wait to see this show and I seriously don't care what people think about it. Some of them are so sure that it is going to be just like BOF so what?! if not for the plot I will watch it just for the actors. Soo anyway people stop being so negative about this show!! try to enjoy it and if you don't like it watch different drama ;)

MTE!

I swear my thoughts always rail against the thoughts of the folks on here. I like the stuff and see the good in stuff they don't, while seeing the flaws of things they love.

I like going into a drama without any expectations, unlike most of the readers on here. I won't be surprised if it isn't that great, especially since I'm not crazy about the writer. But i don't understand why everyone thinks it's going to be a hot mess and exactly like BOF, when all we know is that she's a poor girl surrounded by rich people.

Required fields are marked *

Based on this writer's past work, I'm not expecting a refreshingly new kind of drama, either. But I'm going to enjoy it nonetheless because one, I'm a fan of LMH and two, even though Kim Eun Sook isn't exactly known for great plots, she does have a way with words. She came up with some of the most famous, instantaneously recognizable K-drama lines such as "in here is you" and "Kim suanmoo..." So it is the same old story, but what piques my interest is how is she going to tell it and how is LMH going to act it.

IDK why LMH is backtracking a high school based drama again.. he was on the w/ personal taste and city hunter so why? he's 26 for God sake, his contemporaries are now playing the role of professionals and yet he goes back on making h.s dramas..

LMH has often said during his 20s, he wants to do a lot of roles that he can do only when he's young and pretty. He probably thinks this is the last point in his life when he can act a highschooler. Since it was another highschooler role in BOF that launched his career and brought him such a success and fame, he's probably bidding farewell to his 20s with one last reprise performance.

While I agree that he doesn't exactly have a baby face, I don't agree that LMH looks like a thirty-something either. He looks his age, which is 27. He's still young and pretty enough to play a highschooler, albeit one that repeated his junior year several times, maybe. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

also, re: the OTP, I am cautiously ok with how Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye are vibing, though not sure if I feel it.

It really doesn't help that they're following in the time slot of Master's Sun, which has the hottest OTP chemistry of 2013 and is not afraid to pimp that as hard as possible. (bts interviews of So Ji-sub and Gong Hyo-jin are just about enough to kill me)

They need to stop being so flirty in bts (I died when he complimented her legs lol), I would die of happiness if they got together.

But I'm convinced they are trolling us, they would never be so obviously flirty if they actually had something there. Because they are nuclear levels of hot, both on and off screen.

I died when he giggled off-screen (there was an audible HAHA and a slight glimpse of his body/shadow moving forward) when GHJ said she has been begging for him to take off his coat so that she could touch part of his bare arm. In that same interview where they were complimenting each other to the high heavens O.O

HAHA, denial is kicking in for me too because that's what I think too. But how the hell does one manufacture blushes? Why rehearse your lines right behind her when you are suppose to start walking in at the other end? Why rehearse stroking her hair (LOL)?

(Fervently holding on to faint hopes of a possibility between them, lol.)

I'm just grateful for their synergy, either way. And I'm also settling to end this post with a more sane statement.

With every new role I am seeing her in, I am starting to look forward to her less and less. I think maybe I'm starting to see the limitations to her acting or it's that she is creating a niche for herself in the realm of actresses who get all the snobby roles. I hope her role is a bit different in this, though. She can do so much more!

I agree with you! I dont really know what to think of Kim ji won's acting.. i dunno if its her acting or the roles she chooses are off. In Whats up, she played a naive -read dumb- immature countryside girl that could barely walk around without harming herself... her musical parts were impressive but overall I hated her character then saw her playing a snobby annoying character and didnt like her either... I hope she can be more convincing in this drama.

I liked her character in What's Up until she started hanging out with the "popular" crowd. the teaser look so lame...and the dynamic look like they want to create the same simple setting with AGD, the 1st teaser of this drama is downgrade from her past work..

honestly from this drama if they want that simple setting to work the casts must have great chemistry but im kind of worried with that here based on the casts

rather than KES im more worried with the director since he never direct romantic comedy or even teen drama all his past work is melodrama romance or family drama

and if there is people who ask why LMH and PSH chose this work that was because of they need hit drama after their latest flop dramas

Well, I think many of us were hoping Park Shin Hye's character would also be an heiress and would be more of a drama about rich kids behaving badly lol, with love in the mix! More like Gossip Girl than Boys Before Flowers, in other words. I think watching two rich kids clashing and then falling in love would be really fun, too!

There is nothing wrong with a Cinderella story but there's nothing exciting about seeing the same old thing time and time again. Rom-Coms are very formulaic, so no one expects something completely new each time.

I don't think anyone is hating the Cinderelly-ness, it's just we hope there are some new things in the mix, as well. And maybe even hoping the lower class girl is not just characterized around being lower class (as is done a lot with "Candy" heroines).

I feel like the trailer has more of a feel of The O.C. (the setting, the poor-outsider in a rich-kid world) than Gossip Girl.

And in case anyone has forgotten, Gossip Girl was as wretched a hot mess as the worst moments of BOF, with characters who were so stupid that I'm amazed they managed to remember their own names.

Let's not behave like it was some great achievement of tv just because it had one competent actor in the mix, please.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I've never watch the O.C. but, um, that's not what I meant...

Just that I (and some others) were expecting the show to be more like Gossip Girl with a bunch of well-to-do kids getting into ridiculous situations and falling in love. I never said that Gossip Girl was amazing but just likened it to the vibe I was getting from Heirs when I first heard about it. They were both a mess, yeah, but Gossip Girl and Boys Over Flowers are two different sides of the same coin--I mean the subject matter is more or less the same, but the way they go about it is very different. And with there already being so many Boys Over Flowers stories, now, honestly, a Gossip Girl would be kind of funny and welcome. Especially if it means the heroine gets to be as well-to-do as everyone else as well.

But, all in all I don't mind if PSH plays the poor-outsider just I hope that they don't characterize her around that. Like, I want her to have some goals and to prove herself among all the rich kids on her own terms and not just through gaining acceptance through a rich boyfriend or having all her struggles be for the sake of being with him.

0

Required fields are marked *

I agree, I'd want the heroine to have more going on with her arc than just the boyfriend too. And I should have clarified, I don't mean you singularly with the ref. to not treating Gossip Girl like it's great, but a lot of fans on Heors threads have been behaving like it was, and I feel a little perspective is needed.

0

Ah, I see. Well, even though it was a mess it was still pretty entertaining up until the 6th season which I never finished, haha.

Heirs can be either be terribly bad or awesome. I feel like it may be both at the same time if that is possible, ahaha. I just want it to be fun. It will be really popular, though, that's for sure. The casting director really lucked out with this one.

I actually think the outfits in these pictures are much better than the ones I've seen in the stills so far. Yes, they're ostentatious but I don't have a problem with that given the setting. The one of Lee Minho and Park ShinHye looks like it's for a make-up CF though.

Park ShinHye's intro actually did have a little crown above it though - it says she's the heir to poverty (or so the subs told me). The wide shots look lovely at the beginning - so hey, at least the cinematography should be good!

MinHyuk looks as cute as a button!

I dunno, but every time I see that couple shot of LMH and PSH, I think of a certain brand of fabric softener...

Zero chemistry, zilch. She had more chemistry with LJS, and that's saying a lot because there was none there too. I see potential in her and KWB though.
