Moon/Sun PD returns with webtoon adaptation Michelin Star

Was there ever a time when dramas weren’t always webtoons first? We’ve got another adaptation in the pipeline, and this one comes from director Kim Do-hoon of the mega-hit fusion historical drama The Moon That Embraces the Sun (he also did Medical Top Team after that, but no one counts that one; he’ll pretty much always be the Moon/Sun PD). The new drama for MBC is called Michelin Star, and it’s set in the world of ambitious chefs.

The webtoon by Kim Song is about the loves and friendships that spark in the kitchen of a fine-dining restaurant where the chef is chasing after the elusive Michelin star. I wonder if it’s set in another country, because I don’t even think Michelin stars are given out in Seoul. Maybe that’s just a technicality or something they’ll fictionalize, which is fine by me.

PD Kim stated, “I heard about the webtoon Michelin Star last year. It’s an appealing project, and I have a big personal interest in cooking, so I think it will be exciting work.” The webtoon deals with French cuisine exclusively, but he plans to change the drama world to contemporary Korean cuisine while including other Western influences as well, and has been consulting with chefs to bring the food to life.

Writers Ma Jin-won and Sohn Hwang-won of I Am Legend and The Last Dance With Me will be leading a larger team of writers for the project, and script work is currently underway. May Queen Pictures (Shine or Go Crazy) is producing. There isn’t much detail about the story, but it sounds like the kind of drama that writes itself — restaurants are high drama, and food porn is always good TV. Pasta mixed with Moon/Sun’s aesthetic sensibility? My mouth is already watering.

Michelin Star plans to air in October on MBC.

Um, I'm already drooling. I love all things food-oriented. I like reality shows and dramas and, you know, actual food. If it wasn't clear....I'm pumped! Hope they do it well.

I don't know why Korea would be exempt from receiving a Michelin star. Restaurants around the world are awarded them. Example Sukiyabashi Jiro was awarded 3 stars and that restaurant is in Tokyo (Jiro Dreams of Sushi was an interesting documentary btw).

It would be interesting if they used Let's Eat style of showing food. Food porn anyone? lol

dont think Korea is exempted from the list, it s just that no restaurant in Seoul which meets the standard to be rewarded any Michelin star.

2 best restaurants in Seoul are Jungsik, which is no.20 best Asia restaurants, and Si-Wha-Dam,which is a member of Relais & Châteaux.

Whilst Michelin have published red guides for Japan, they have never, to my knowledge, published a guide for Korea. And no red guide = no Michelin stars.

I'm pretty sure there is a bakery (I think) in Soul that was awarded a Michelin star. They had the whole episode about it on Shinhwa Broadcast :D

It may've been listed in the green guide, but as of this time, there is no red guide for Seoul (and the famed Michelin stars are awarded in the red guide, not the green).

You had me at " Last Dance With Me"... If this "Last Dance With Me" is the same one I'm thinking about, which is the 2004 drama starring Ji Sung and Eugene (of S.E.S.), then you've got me ^.^ The 2004 drama was, is, and always will be my all-time favorite drama <3

I am always there for food porn! Let's just hope they won't cast someone as 'talented' as Han Ga In this time, she nearly ruined Moon/Sun for me.

Oh my gosh, me too! I liked HGI in other dramas as much as I could. I think all the roles I've seen her in were kind of limp though, so I can't tell if it's writing or acting. Her character in Moon/Sun was way too submissive. She mostly just did what everyone told her to.

MBC is on a roll!!!!
From Shine or Go Crazy, KMHM, continuing on princess jamyung, hong sisterx drama and now this.
Even their weekend dramas are all top ratings. Mama, jang bori, legendary witch....

I can say both kbs and sbs are a bit down... Where SBS used to be the best out of the three

When I hear Michelin Star; this 2 things pop in my mind:

1. The Michelin Red Reference Guide Book - which list Restaurants & Hotels with Michelin stars
The ranking of three stars, two stars, or one star—or no stars.

2. Happy Michelin Kitchen [TAIWAN DRAMA 2012]

Michelin Stars are given world wide. I've ate at a 1Michelin Star Dim Sum place in HK. Wasn't expensive and it was soooo good.

You can legally read the actual webcomic in English (Tapastic). I am really enjoying the webcomic and think it would be awesome as a drama.

Omigosh yes this is like my favorite webtoon!!!!! I cannot wait!

Also, in the question about Michelin star, in the story the guy is pretty much trying to create such a good restaurant that the Michelin people hear of it and come to Korea or something. The first person to get a star in Korea, in fact, is his goal.

Just a wishy washy thought - I would really like Joo Won to do the role of Ryu Tae Hwan, Moon Geun Young as Park Eun Bi and Lee Soo Hyuk as TS Noh. Would be really eager to see this combo. After all Joo Won was supposed to be in Moon / Sun. Never short of second chances are we?! :)
