News bites: April 25, 2015

  • Jung Yong-hwa (Three Musketeers) will be the first Korean actor to make a guest appearance on the popular Chinese web sitcom Diors Man. The cameo’s already been filmed in a Beijing nightclub, and in it, he plays the friend of Da Peng (the variety show host famous for emulating Conan O’ Brien). Stars such as Fan Bingbing and Tang Wei have made appearances in the past, and the fourth season begins in mid-May, although Jung’s guest spot is expected to air later in the season. [Osen]
  • OCN’s latest drama, My Beautiful Bride, has cast its villain: Ryu Seung-soo (Shine or Go Crazy) is joining the show as a guy who epitomizes evil. The intense thriller will be helmed by Kim Chul-gyu (Emergency Couple) and written by Yoo Sung-yeol (Heartless City). His casting puts Ryu at odds with Kim Mu-yeol, who’s confirmed he’ll take the lead character, a man who’s frantically searching for his missing wife, and Lee Shi-young, who’s also confirmed she’ll play a detective assisting in the search. Go Sung-hee is still considering the role of the missing spouse. My Beautiful Bride follows Missing Noir M in mid-June. [Sports Worldi, Star News]

  • Lee Hee-joon, Ryu Seung-soo

  • Lee Hee-joon (Yoo-na’s Street) will go head-to-head with Im Shi-wan in Thoughts of Oppa, the film loosely based on an actual children’s choir that existed during the Korean War. Im is a soldier who finds healing as he leads the choir of kids, Go Ah-sung is a piano teacher who befriends them, and Lee is a character who’s a thorn in Im’s side. Cameras for Thoughts of Oppa begin rolling next month. [Osen]
  • Lee Jung-jae has accepted a role in the joint Chinese-Korean production Turnaround Day, his first Chinese film. There’s very little info on the premise, but director Li Jun is said to have described it as a “gangster action movie,” in which Lee will play a Korean policeman. Lee recently attended a press gathering to promote the movie and will begin work on the production soon, but while we wait, we’ll be able to see him in Assassination with Jeon Ji-hyun, which hits theaters this summer. [Hankook Economy]

  • Lee Jung-jae, Jo Jae-hyun

  • It won’t be Jo Jae-hyun’s first time behind the camera (he made the documentary short Grandfather Kim Sung-soo’s Special Day in 2013) but My Solo Vacation will be his first feature-length directorial effort. The movie will be about a man in his 40s and his rather ordinary life as a married man and the head of a household, but there’s a twist: He’s unable to forget a woman from ten years ago and will begin to obsess over her. The low-budget film has an allowance of less than 200,000 USD, and Jo isn’t just the director; he wrote the screenplay and will also fund and produce the movie. Production begins in June. [Newsis]
  • Lee Jung-jin (Temptation) and Im Soo-hyang (Age of Feeling) have been cast as the leads in the prison romance movie Eun-ha. Lee’s role will be that of a 42-year-old prison guard, while Im will play a 26-year-old convict and the title character, Eun-ha. What begins as a guard/prisoner relationship will blossom into a romance as she serves time. Lee heads to Micronesia next week to film his segment on SBS’s variety program Law of the Jungle, and he’ll begin work on Eun-ha immediately upon his return. [Sports Chosun]

Kang-ah!

Strangely, I was just thinking about him earlier as I read this news haha. I miss him a lot! I hope Jo Hyun-jae comes back soon too. I know he was in Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek, but I didn't follow that show so. :( It's been too long since 49 Days.

Actually he was the lead role of King's Daughter soo baek hyang, which was a long weekdays drama . He was great in the drama( his subtle acting is super and other actors were also very good) but I am afraid that not many people were willing to watch the long drama. The story line was good but because of the Winter Olympic Game, eps was cut short, which disturbed the story line towards the end somewhat. Overall, I always thought that this drama deserved a better rating. Strangely enough, MBC did not promote the drama much.

I've seen that drama. It was my first 100+ episode drama that I patiently watched, and that's because of Jo Hyun Jae...

I heard Lee Si Young is female lead of My beautiful bride. Seems like Go sung-hee is getting demoted and pushed back down to supporting role for a weekend cable drama. She's a shitty actress who can't act her way out of a barrel and should not get the main role.

Go Sung Hee was weirdly funny in We got married, I have yet to see her acting talent (To be honest, I watched Can you hear my voice twice and never did I remember she was in there lol)

Just to let you know, here is the majority opinion. Go sung-Hee is a very bad actress. Her acting sucks and she has NO talent.

@alpha,
Er, I think you're getting confused with someone else. The person is talking about Go sung Hee who is the horrible female lead of Night Watchman Journal and the same girl who stunk up Spy with bad acting again. I looked through the names of cast members of Can you hear my voice but never saw GSH. If you look at her biography. She was never in that drama.

@alpha - I think you're referring to Go Joon-hee, since Go Sung-hee has

a) never been on We Got Married
b) never acted in anything before 2013, and Can You Hear My Heart is a 2011 show.

Your comment is all sort of confusing LOL I think you meant Go Joon-hee not Go Sung-hee. And GJH was not in I Can Hear Your Voice, she was in Can You Hear My Heart, which is why you don't remember her in there :D

Go Sung-hee was ok in Miss Korea, which proves my hypothesis that she's bearable in small doses but totally lacks the talent or charisma to carry anything approaching lead role.

Supporting role for cable weekend drama sounds right about the level she's at, acting-wise.

Her performance in records of a night watchman was pretty good as well but she kind of stopped improving in spy. she has a nice look but she lacks the emotion and expressions in acting.

lacking emotion and expression in acting pretty much = she cant act.

I tried really hard to like her in Night Watchman's Journal but she was appallingly bad. So bad that I ended up thinking even Yunho did better than her.

@pogo

I will always be objective and un-biased. Yunho's acting was decent overall, not bad at all, but the female lead Go Sung Hee was appallingly bad like you said.

No actress in the world could have overcome that script and that costume.

@AJK
Lmao, I bet the A-list actresses could have done better. Despite the poorly written script, there's no excuse that Go Sung hee is a terrible actress. She seriously sucks hard -_-

@Mary

LOL you're in the minority. Go sung Hee's acting was horrendous in Night Watchman Journal. As for looks overall, people even criticized her saying she's not pretty.

I agree with you, Rose. The male leads were good in NWJ despite of the crazy screenwriting. But they could not save the drama because of GSH. Later I read an interview of Jung Il Woo and he was praising her that he can learn more from her. I was like' what possibly can he learn from her?' then I thought that he has learned that ' never get a role where your potential pair is suck at acting'

@atz
GSH should not even be in Kdramaland in the first place. Her acting is bad & awfully painful to watch. Giving her the female lead for 2 dramas was a big mistake bcuz she ruined them both. I'm glad she's demoted down to supporting actress in the next Saturday cable drama "my beautiful bride".

Pogo,

She was only bearable in that ONE small role in Miss Korea. It does NOT guarantee or prove she will be okay in her next supporting roles. She sucked so bad as leading actress in both a sageuk drama NWJ and contemporary drama Spy, She's the weakest link in both shows because her acting is bad to the bone.

All I am saying about Go Sung Hee is that she better stay a secondary character in 'My Beautiful Bride'. The news I have read have her confirmed already, so please use her wisely, OCN.

And I am glad Im Soo Hyang is back! I really like where she is going with her acting. Still rough, but she has potential and such screen presence. I hope the film will boost her career and offers, because she has made interesting, but often failed in terms of work quality choices.

tsk tsk Chang-man-sshi don't hurt our kid! What's come over you?!

Lee Jung-jae + gangster action movie? I'm there.

I'd rather see him in front of the camera than behind, but I trust Jo Jae-Hyun. Must be worth it.

Lee Jung-jin and Im Soo-hyang should be a badass couple in an action movie. But playing a couple in a prison romance is also fine with me.

I think you guys talk about 3 different people:
1. Go Sung Hee: Night Watchman, Miss Korea, Spy.
2. Go Joon Hee: Architecture 101, Can You Hear My Heart. She's funny in WGM and is a good actress.
3. I don't really know her name but it sounds like combination of those two above. She is rookie, plays small role in Heard It Through Grapevine and now in WGM with Lee Jonghyun of CN Blue.
