Mask: Episode 12

Seok-hoon’s carefully constructed lies are being torn down left and right, making him feel more uncertain and more likely to lash out in desperation. Luckily, love is blooming despite Ji-sook’s attempts to keep her distance from Min-woo. And once the two of them become true partners in every sense of the word, there’s going to be nothing and nobody capable of tearing them apart.

EPISODE 12: “Unhappy Happiness”

It’s one year ago on Eun-ha’s twenty-sixth birthday, and she and Seok-hoon celebrate privately with a cake. Eun-ha urges Seok-hoon to sing “Happy Birthday,” but he looks like it’s killing him and he can’t do it, ha. He gives her the diamond necklace we’ve seen on her previously, and as he puts it around her neck, she says she’ll let him know in one year whether she’ll go along with his plan. He smiles and says they can do it, since it’s the only way they can be together.

In the present, Seok-hoon is no longer smiling as Ji-sook reminds him of his promise — leave Min-woo alone, in return for the video of him murdering Jung-tae. He shows her the smashed watch, and now we see that as Mi-yeon sat trying to decide if she should watch or delete the video, she’d realized her period was a week late.

She’d gone straight to Seok-hoon with the news that they’re going to be parents, and said that she chooses to believe his lies. Seok-hoon tells Ji-sook that this is proof that God is on their side, and wishes her a happy birthday.

Mi-yeon tells the family her conception dream, and Papa Choi proposes a party in celebration of the baby and for Ji-sook’s birthday. Gifts are delivered for Ji-sook, and the maid tells her that they were sent one year ago, from herself. Hmmm. She opens them and finds two dresses and a purse, and a card with a locket attached to a key. The card asks, “Will you comply or rebel?”

Min-woo remembers the night before when he’d smashed his pills after finding out he was tricked into taking hallucinogens, and Ji-sook asks him which of the dresses she should wear to the party. He simply tells her that she’s pretty, and to wear whichever dress she likes.

Seok-hoon watches this on hidden camera, remembering one year ago on Eun-ha’s birthday when she’d said she didn’t know which dress she should wear next year. But she’d reminded him that the dress was a signal — white meant she’d go along with his plan, and red meant she wouldn’t.

Mi-yeon demands that her celebration cake be larger than Ji-sook’s birthday cake, then she, Seok-hoon, and Stepmom go shopping. Seok-hoon seems less diabolical than usual as he sighs his way through the ladies’ shopping spree like any bored husband, and he’s almost cute with his long-suffering expressions.

Ji-sook’s former coworkers go through some old papers and find her resume, and when they take the papers out for disposal, they crash right into Mi-yeon and her mom. Papers go flying, but Mi-yeon catches sight of Ji-sook’s resume and takes it.

Min-woo can’t stop thinking about his medication which turned out to be hallucinogens, but on his way to confront Dr. Kim, he gets a call that the doctor’s been arrested. He goes to the prison for answers, but Dr. Kim just claims he was trying to cure Min-woo through special methods. He urges Min-woo to keep getting treatment, no matter what.

Min-woo leaves with no more answers than when he came, and soon after, Seok-hoon also visits Dr. Kim. He promises to get him out soon, reminding him that they share a common purpose. Later, Dr. Kim is in the news for being sued by a patient for performing illegal clinical trials, using non-approved medications to treat depression. Well, at least Min-woo wasn’t the only one.

Ji-sook goes to the address written on the key, and finds what looks like a secret apartment that Seok-hoon shared with Eun-ha. Behind a (very good) painting of Seok-hoon she finds a cache of photos of the two of them, and a diary.

It’s full of photos of Eun-ha and Seok-hoon’s courtship, but contains ominous written warnings such as “Love paralyzes the soul.” The messages get more frightening and more specific, culminating in one terrifying question: “Could I really kill Choi Min-woo?”

Ji-sook runs straight to his office and finds Min-woo there, and she lays her forehead on his back. “No matter what, I’ll be by your side. I’ll always be by your side,” she tells him quietly.

Mi-yeon and Stepmom exclaim over how much Ji-sook looked like Eun-ha — they could even be twins. Mi-yeon is ready to dismiss the matter as coincidence, more concerned about staying calm for her baby, but Stepmom knows this information could be very valuable. She orders Ji-sook’s coworkers to bring Ji-sook to meet her, but they sadly inform her that she passed away.

Min-woo asks Ji-sook what that backhug was all about, but she just mumbles that they’re married, it’s no big deal. Awww, Min-woo looks disappointed. To cheer him up, Ji-sook tells him a trick she uses when she’s upset — she hums a song in her head and it keeps the bad thoughts away.

He rejects her suggestion, then promises to try it when she pouts, since it’s her birthday and all. She requests a smile from him as her birthday gift, and he gives it some thought.

Mi-yeon finds Ji-sook’s family’s restaurant from her resume information, and she and Ji-hyuk recognize each other immediately. Mi-yeon still thinks Ji-hyuk was Eun-ha’s lover, since he made a scene at the company ball, and she covers her presence here by claiming to be worried he’d pull a similar stunt on her birthday. Ji-hyuk tells her firmly never to come back here, but he stops in his tracks when she asks about Ji-sook by name.

He admits she was his sister, and that she’s dead, but Mi-yeon says that she feels like she’s still alive. She remembers him calling Ji-sook “noona” at the ball, wondering why he’d be looking for his noona if she were passed away. Ji-hyuk repeats angrily that his sister is dead.

Director Shim is arrested for trespassing and theft — of a woman’s underwear. HAHA. He swears he didn’t do it, but there was a pack of cigarettes in her house with his fingerprints all over it. Seok-hoon is behind it, and tells his contact at the police station to keep Shim locked up until further notice.

The boys brainstorm birthday gift ideas for Ji-sook, but Min-woo shoots down all of Chang-soo’s dorky suggestions, until he finally just says to get her something from his heart. Chang-soo pretends to be Ji-sook so Min-woo can practice his moves, and I can’t even. Dying over here. Min-woo waves the doofus away so he can think.

Ji-hyuk meets with Ji-sook to talk about Mom’s treatment, and he says he knows it was her who made Shim get on his knees to her family. She tells him that the poor have to kneel, but the rich can make others kneel. Ji-hyuk won’t ever have to kneel again. The family (minus Ji-sook, of course) meets with Mom’s doctor, who tells Mom that she’ll most likely need a liver transplant. Her best bet for recovery is to find a donor within the family.

Shim is let out of jail, and before he can even take one step from his cell, Scar shows up to warn him never to do anything like this again (meaning, attempting to steal the watch). He takes Shim to see Seok-hoon, who is not amused by his big show of throwing his weight around. Seok-hoon says that when you feed a dog it treats it’s owner like God, but when you feed a cat, it thinks it IS God. Too bad Shim isn’t a dog.

Shim says that he knows about Ji-sook pretending to be Eun-ha, and that Seok-hoon killed Jung-tae for discovering it. He claims to have proof, and that if anything happens to him, the whole country will know. He wants half of whatever Seok-hoon is getting from this. Sir, you may be a dog, but you are a very small dog, better watch yourself.

It’s time for the birthday/baby celebration party, and HAHAHA, Mi-yeon had ordered a one-tier cake for Ji-sook versus a five-tier cake for herself. So the staff just made Ji-sook’s one tier reeeeeeally tall. That’s awesome.

Min-woo tells Papa Choi and Stepmom that his pills were hallucinogens, and dad seems furious. He swears to get the maximum sentence for Dr. Kim and promises to find Min-woo a new doctor soon.

Min-woo goes out to the party and sees Butler Nam-chul pouring wine, which triggers a memory of the day of Eun-ha’s accident. He suddenly remembers gulping the glass of wine and collapsing, and seeing Eun-ha fighting with Mi-yeon just before he passes out. He shakes it off and tries Ji-sook’s trick of humming in his head to chase away the bad thought.

Inside, the maid tells Seok-hoon that she can’t help him anymore, so he offers her triple pay to drug Min-woo’s wine again. She reluctantly nods agreement.

Mi-yeon tells Stepmom that she checked out Ji-sook, and the resemblance to Eun-ha turned out to be coincidental. She says that she feels like something interesting could happen at the party tonight, and both women smile nastily.

Seok-hoon takes a private moment to look at Eun-ha’s diamond necklace and remember her, and Mi-yeon walks in and smiles, assuming it’s a gift for her. She suggests the name Sa-rang-hae (it means “I love you”) for their baby, and Seok-hoon agrees it’s a good name. She asks him to try saying the baby’s name, and when he does, she responds, “Me too.” She promises to be the best wife and mother ever once the baby is born, full of excited plans for the future.

Mi-yeon had invited Eun-ha’s parents to the party since they happened to be in town, which makes Seok-hoon visibly nervous. He greets them, and of course they ask about Eun-ha right away.

Ji-sook joins the party looking like a vision in the red dress, and Min-woo practically has to pick his jaw up off the ground. She’s studied Eun-ha’s photo album, and gracefully navigates all of Eun-ha’s friends and acquaintances easily. Min-woo leads her to her cake, whining that his eyes hurt, she’s so stunning. How are you so cute?!

He takes it up a notch when nobody seems inclined to sing the birthday song, and so Min-woo starts it himself. It actually looks painfully embarrassing, hee, but he grits his teeth and sings alone until everyone joins in. Mi-yeon threatens Seok-hoon that he’d better sing for her like that on her birthday.

Papa Choi laughs that Ji-sook must have done something to Min-woo to make him sing, and Eun-ha’s mother asks what she’ll do for him in return. Eun-ha’s father suggests she play piano, which makes Ji-sook looks extremely nervous. But she walks over to the piano, and Seok-hoon’s maid uses the distraction to slip a pill into a bottle of wine.

Ji-sook actually can play the piano, and she bewitches the party guests with a lovely classical song. Mi-yeon looks flustered, what with her suspicion that Ji-sook isn’t Eun-ha, but Seok-hoon is relieved. Chang-soo whispers to Min-woo that his wife is beautiful, and gets threatened in response. HA.

It turns out that Ji-sook has always been good at the piano, practicing on the department store’s piano every night. Her coworkers asked why, and she’d said that one day she would be able to show her future husband that she can do more than cook and clean.

Min-woo looks likely to bust with pride, but Seok-hoon glowers at Ji-sook angrily. His maid pours her a glass of wine, and she downs it in one gulp. She casually knocks her purse off the table and asks Seok-hoon to pick it up, and when he does, she leans down to whisper under the table that Eun-ha’s answer is No. He remembers his promise from one year ago to accept her decision, and that the red dress is her code for rejection.

We see that a few minutes ago, the maid had poured out the bottle of wine she’d drugged, and Ji-sook had thanked her. The maid said she didn’t do it only because Ji-sook paid her debts, but that she just wants to live a good life now.

Min-woo and Ji-sook talk after the party, and he asks if she wants to do a duet with him on his violin on their anniversary. He gives her her birthday gift, a small flowering plant for them to take care of together. Okay I knew you were cute, and now you’re also this sweet? Kill me now.

Ji-sook is enchanted, and says she never knew a flower could be so beautiful. He says she’s been too busy with life to notice, and asks if she likes her present. She responds that the best present was him, and he looks like you could knock him over with a feather.

She teases him with his own words that she just gets sentimental at night and goes to wash up, and Min-woo can’t get past her comment about him being her best gift. He pulls her real gift out of his pocket, a ring, and smiles at it.

Seok-hoon finds Mi-yeon in bed already, and notices that she’d bought baby clothes during her shopping spree earlier. He takes out a tiny onesie and looks at himself in the mirror, then takes out Eun-ha’s diamond necklace again. He grips it in his fist, then leaves the room with one last look at Mi-yeon, who wasn’t asleep after all.

Min-woo hides the ring in the sofa, and when Ji-sook is ready for bed, he grouches that sleeping on the sofa hurts his back too much. She offers to trade places with him, so he tells her to lay down and just see for herself how uncomfortable it is.

She sits and feels the ring box, and when Ji-sook just stares at it, Min-woo takes her hand. He tells her not to drop this one in the water, and puts the ring on her, saying that it’s their wedding ring. Ji-sook beams at him, and Min-woo preens over his successful gift.

Seok-hoon drives to Eun-ha’s resting place, and leaves her necklace on the shelf in front of her photograph. A tear falls, and he softly says one word, “Eun-ha.” He doesn’t notice Mi-yeon behind him, witnessing the whole thing.

Mi-yeon shakes violently, as she remembers handing the bottle of pills to the maid to drug the wine bottle on the day of Eun-ha’s accident. Min-woo had downed her glass for her in anger, but Eun-ha had already had enough to make her stagger as she tried to leave the pool area.

Min-woo had passed out, and Mi-yeon had come back out to speak to Eun-ha again, but instead Eun-ha had gripped her by the shoulder, but when she tried to grab Mi-yeon’s hand, Mi-yeon let her slip into the water. She’d stood by and watched Eun-ha struggle, then had turned and walked away while Eun-ha drowned. She’d also been the one to have the footage of the accident erased.

Back in the present, Mi-yeon looks again at Ji-sook’s resume, and the pieces come together. She starts to realize that she killed Eun-ha, and a woman identical to her must have taken her place. Seok-hoon cries for Eun-ha, and Ji-sook smiles at her new wedding ring.

COMMENTS

Well, now we know the truth. It seems as though Eun-ha’s death truly was an accident, though Mi-yeon drugged her on purpose. There are still a lot of questions around the accident such as, what was Mi-yeon’s intent in drugging the wine? Did she mean for Eun-ha to get hurt, or was she just being vengeful to the woman she hated for loving her husband? My guess is that she was only playing a cruel joke, but that she didn’t mean for Eun-ha to be seriously harmed. Mi-yeon doesn’t seem that evil, and she appears genuinely horrified that Eun-ha actually died.

That said, I’m glad that someone has discovered (or nearly so) the Eun-ha/Ji-sook switch, because I think they’ve about milked all the drama they can out of it at this point. With only Ji-sook and Seok-hoon knowing the truth (I don’t count Ji-hyuk, because he’s not really doing anything with the knowledge, or Director Shim who is loud but ineffectual), there’s not much more the story can do until someone else learns the truth. I was hoping Min-woo would find out first, but Mi-yeon is my second choice and I look forward to the fallout of her realization. I really like her as a character — as I’ve said, she’s devious without being truly evil, which means that if we can get Seok-hoon’s nasty little paws off her, she could even turn out to be an ally to Ji-sook. After all, Ji-sook is not her enemy and never has been. That was Eun-ha, and Eun-ha is gone. If I were telling this story, I would find a way to get Mi-yeon on Ji-sook’s side, if only for the uncharted waters you could explore by having the antagonist team up with the protagonist for once.

I said it already, but I really love seeing the progression of Ji-sook’s character as she steps up and takes her place as Min-woo’s wife. I never feel like she’s trying to emulate Eun-ha, which would be impossible anyway since she never knew the woman. But she knows that Eun-ha was strong and capable, and luckily she left enough information in her photos and diaries for Ji-sook to be able to pass as her, if not act exactly like her. I love the woman that Ji-sook is becoming — a combination of the old Ji-sook who would do anything for her loved ones but was weak and powerless, and what she knows of Eun-ha as a woman who took no shit from anyone. The woman who is emerging now is better than either one was alone, and she’s amazing. She’s confident and capable, not to mention fearless, but keeps her spirit of generosity towards those who have less. No wonder Min-woo is in love with her.

And I have no doubt now that he’s completely and fully in love with Ji-sook. She’s still holding herself apart from him a bit, attempting (in my opinion, which is certainly up for scrutiny) to hold onto her own heart since I’m sure she thinks that if/when her true identity is revealed, she’ll lose everything she’s only so recently gained. I think she knows that Min-woo cares for her, but she’s probably uncertain that he’ll keep caring for her once her deception is revealed. So I don’t blame her for not opening up to him completely.

But I also think it won’t be long before she’s unable to resist, and his birthday gifts and her reaction to them are a perfect example. Min-woo proved how well he understands her with the plant and the ring — the plant especially, was his way of saying he wants to be with her for the long haul. Giving her something they could share was not just a gift for her, but a declaration of his love. And by Ji-sook saying that the best gift she’s ever been given is him, the wall she’s kept between them is starting to crumble. I don’t think it will be long before it comes down completely, and she can’t help but allow herself to love him.

for a melodrama, this one really is funny, it's compelling to watch as a drama but the sense of humor is there, and that for me is the icing on the cake. When Mi Yeon said they should take a selfie at the mall, after shopping all those useless stuffs (baghags both of them) I'm really amused that she has on her shades then took a selfie of herself and the husband, and that picture is funny and poignant at the same time, their marriage is a big joke yet somehow they do deserve each other. Tho Mi yeon is not that bad just unfortunate to have him as a husband.

@Jordane Your so right. For a melo it is pretty awesome. I usually stay away from the melos too. The writer is smart by keeping the romance and humour. Otherwise, it wud be just mystery and angst. And tho that's not bad its just not as fun. Looks like they took a lesson from KMHM.

The humor was pretty well established in episode one, with an actual deer-in-the-headlights and an actual cliffhanger in the first minute and 15 seconds.
The cake is pretty much what you could expect from anyone who comes up with an opening like that.

literally spitted all over myself and died when I saw the cake, so hillarious :)

I love how in the makjang melodrama the writers find so many opportunities to smuggle a bit of a humour here and there, and when they do I usually lay on the floor and cry of laughter, like the Changsoo's impersonation of Jisook.

So refreshing to see Jisook's character taking completely another turn in this story, now sacrificing herself for Minwoo and going really far just to protect him. Her transformation is deemed as too sudden and immediate by a lot of people, but for me her meek actions through episodes 6-10 were a really believable introduction and a way to show us that from a weak and not very capable woman Jisook turned into a lioness that fights for what's important to her.She crossed her breaking point, which I think was realization that she cares about Minwoo too much to stay put and comply to everything Seokhoon orders her to do.
Gosh, I love this drama more and more, hope that they won't lose the steam and Mask will keep being as good as it is now.
So far, I didn't like any drama as much as I like Mask now, maybe except for that trainwreck School 2015, the best drama of the year for me (so far).

@Matt "smuggle a bit o humour" is right. It really does feel like they have to throw those in huh? The humour makes it enjoyable. And in my opinion, the writer/director is feeling encouraged to throw those in bc of the feedback. But we're happy, are we not? Thank the Lord for those moments. It really doesn't feel makjangy in those moments. Can we even still call it a makjang?

I did see the transformation as sudden although I love it. I loved her character throughout. But I guess if I think back ep 10 for me is the turning point. There we see her plotting and fighting back already, albeit not as strong as now. But yay or her victories! It feels so good. But I have a nagging feeling that the happiness will take a turn. Its just too perfect! When JS withdrew the money I felt uneasy. But idk why.

@ Camille

Because prior to Ji-sook's taking money from Eun-ha's account, she could only be accused of character impersonation, but after she took the money she can be accused of embezzlement, which carries a much stiffer fine, should the family wish to prosecute when they find out. She has no hope or way to repay the money either.

Before taking the money, Ji-sook could've walked away knowing she didn't commit a crime, now she can't. Believe it or not, Seok Hoon protected her by freezing the accounts though we all know that wasn't his intention, but to control her. I know Seok-hoon threatened in the earlier episodes to rope her to a crime she did not commit, but now she can't look at her actions and claim to be completely innocent.

Thanks very much LollyPip!!! You are so funny!!!

"Chang-soo pretends to be Ji-sook so Min-woo can practice his moves, and I can’t even. Dying over here. Min-woo waves the doofus away so he can think."

LOL!!! When Chang Soo sat 'like a lady' to play his JS role, I almost fell off my chair!!! Best bromance!!

And Oh dear! Mi Yeon!!! "... she chooses to believe his lies." not a good start to happy parenting or a continued marriage. But, other than leave him or force his hand, what choice does she have?

It's so ironic that SH is telling her truthfully that he is telling her lies and even tells her to believe his lies. I've never come across such a truthful liar! LOL! But *face palm* when I think of this relationship.

Soooooo good ? JS and MW together... such love ? , so much a family already ?. I love that now they are putting it out there in words as well as actions.

Kiss her already!!! ? ? ? ? ? ?

Mi-yeon is as obsessed with Seok-hoon as he is with power. I am not sure if she is really pregnant. She is delayed, yes, but does it necessarilly mean she's preggy? She has not gone to the doctor yet to confirm, what if she just has some kind of illness?

YES yes ... please some skinship between these two!

Loving the chemistry! Easily one of the better pairings among all the drama offerings currently. They're so cute.

Enjoying the subtle conversations and interactions (lol to the radio reactions in the car too) which are all sweet but yes, time for another kiss already (and mutually heartfelt this time).

Mentally? Or physically? Or both - like a pseudo pregnancy? I wonder why she didn't wait to announce her pregnancy before checking with a doctor at least. Conventional wisdom advices to keep the news of pregnancy under wraps in the first trimester when the risks of miscarriage are highest. I think she wants to use the pregnancy to compensate for the lack of affection from her husband.

Poor Seok Hoon, I genuinely felt sorry for him in this episode. I think he would've welcomed a child with Eun-ha whom he loved, but not fom Mi Yeon, who is just a means to an end for him. I think he really thinks Min-woo is responsible for Eun-ha's death; which is why he wants to humiliate and destroy him. I wonder what he'll do when he finds out his wife is responsible for his lover's death. It won't take much for the truth to unravel. All that is needed is the testimony of the maid; and Seok-hoon can draw his own conclusions.

Yup yup @Adal

I'd never tell anyone about a pregnancy (except hubby and the boss) until I was sure it was going fine.

And Wow! I never really thought it through but you're right, SH probably does think that Min Woo could have killed Eun Ha, even by accident, and is harboring resentment for this as well as for winning over the heart of Ji Sook.

Agreed to the kiss request- this time a real good one ;)

Yes! Min-woo's expression! And just how he looked when he was trying to process what she just told him. I found it sooooo cute! Also, I think it was adorable how Ji-sook scurried away like a giddy school girl to the shower. I think I re-watched just that part at least 5 or 6 times!!! XD

They're just so dysfunctional that I don't even know anymore. From here on out, rather than seeing a possible three-dream-team I feel like MY will just play it quiet. She can't do anything else. If push comes to shove and she learns SH's evil plans, she won't turn on him. She'll stupidly protect him. Why? Because if she protects him she protect herself. Plus he's her baby daddy.

Yes, this scenario you've mentioned will be a pity. It's entirely possible too. What will realizing that she's instrumental in Eun Ha's death lead MY to do? Protect herself and her baby, most likely, and therefore protect the evil husband as well. My other hope was that Ji Hyuk could do more and join JS's team, but I cannot guess how at this moment. :)

First of all - thank you for the recap.

I have been going crazy since I saw the penultimate scene from Ep 12. Does anyone think that MY saw the video, decided to ignore it b/c she's pregnant and then gave the damaged watch to SH as a sign that she 'believes' his lies - in light of the fact that she's responsible for EH's death?

I'm questioning everything MY ever said now that I have this revelation. She's not as much of a victim as I thought she was. I always thought of her as 'reacting' to her unfair family dynamics (she can't inherit b/c she's a girl even though she's a child from a legitimate union) and a bad marriage to a man who is using her for her family's wealth and power. I always thought that she was placating SH even while she kept 'losing' to him...but now it's solidified in my mind that she may be as much of a threat - if not more now - as SH

I don´t think she watched it. She might be backing her husband all the way, but even she is scared of actually knowing what SH is capable of. Then again, by the end of the ep she realized at least some of it. We´ll see, how she´ll act to that.
I was disappointed in MY. So, I should buy the tears that you didn´t want EH to die? Or that you really did, but now that it´s certain that she IS dead, you don´t like the idea anymore? I get it, she must´ve been blinded by jealousy, but you don´t go playing tricks like that. You walked away when she was drowning (!). Does anyone remember what exactly happened by the pool?

0

Required fields are marked *

The fact that we never saw WHAT she actually did would imply that she indeed DID something (like watching the video, or NOT deleting it, or something).

I never saw her as a victim, she always decided on her own what delusions she wanted to have. I respect that a lot. I dig her as a potential villain. From a character design perspective, she'd make even better villain than SH (he is much, much more funny though).

0

Required fields are marked *

@Nesiessi your right on the money. MY isn't that innocent as we thought. But I still think she is somewhat a victim of her cold family. Imagine, she drugs her husbands lover AND watches her drown in order to feel some cruel sadistic satisfaction, all in the name of keeping her man? When EH fell she looked shocked the put on her cool persona. She was willing not to care if it meant getting her way. And when she realized that EH died she was shocked. But won't she get over it? The way I see it, it can go both ways: the cud shut up and try to live quietly or she can try to make JS happy and ward off her crazy mom in an effort to pay penance for her wrongs.

Now that she knows that JS in living in EH's place, won't she ask some questions. Why is JS here if EH died? Is her husband planning something? She shud ask these questions. Its logical. But this show was never abt logics was it?

Short of torture for pleasure, how much darker a side is there than to poison someone and leave them to drown.

Poisoning to me is an ultimate violation, because it is usually an intimate betrayal. A stranger can attack you with a gun or knife, but in most cases to ingest poison you usually have to be dealing with someone in some place where there is at least a modicum of trust.

Yes the idea of poisoning someone and then letting them drown sure is dark - but I don't think this show plays it out in a very twisted way (besides, I don't even think mi yeon intended to kill eun ha, think she just wanted to play a cruel joke on her but so far, shes doesnt seem evil enough to kill yet). If you see some other K-dramas, for instance missing you, wife's temptation, and even more recent, rom coms such as birth of a beauty (husband wanting to kill wife just cos he wanted to marry someone else), and sensory couple have darker scenes than mask, which is not a bad thing for mask - I love how its able to get my blood running and a very interesting villian without being too in- your-face makjang.

I love the contrasts between the two birthdays we see play out on screen, though I didn't fully appreciate them until my second viewing.

Eunha w/SK for her 26th:
No birthday song, SK can't do that even in private
Tons of flowers, but they're all ignored in favor of the
Blingbling of the necklace, which I see as SK's way of reminding her of their love in hopes to bring her into his plan

JiSook w/MW for the fake 27th:
He sings! So adorable in his completely embarrassment
One living flower that she truly sees and appreciates for the beauty that it is
A wedding ring, this one chosen out of his love for her and a symbol of their commitment to each other

I love the way the writer did this. <3

I just remembered... There was that totally different 'before' scene where Min Woo pushed Ji Sook down on the couch to scare her away from marrying him... and now we have the Min Woo and Ji Sook wiggle their butts on the couch scene that is so cute-funny and they end up sitting on it together.

Well, I'm less sure that MY didn't kill EH. Maybe it wasn't premeditated murder, but when you drugged somebody's wine while they were sitting between 2 swimming pools, saw that she couldn't walk straight or even stand up on her feet, and you let go of her hand when she had to steady herself by trying to grasp yours, then I say an argument could easily be made that the moment you let go of that hand of hers, you had every intention of letting her fall into the pool and drown.

MY might say in her own defence that "I didn't know she'd fall into the pool", or "but she was a good swimmer"; the law doesn't take "ignorance of the fact" to be a legitimate defence and neither do I. It doesn't take Einstein to figure out that when a person can't even stand up straight after being drugged, and she is beside a pool, the logical deduction would be that she'd fall into the pool and drown. To my mind, for all practical purposes, MY is a murderer.

I was feeling sorry for her before this ep. That sympathy is all gone. Far as I'm concerned, she totally deserves her devil of a husband, and deserves whatever ill fate awaits her at the end. That doesn't make me like her less as a drama char. She just became more interesting than the boring whiny wino that she has been.

Agree completely - Eun Ha's death was in no way an accident. Drugging her, watching her slip into the pool and start to drown, walking away and then deleting any incriminating CCTV footage? She knew what she was doing (and it may not have been premeditated, but it was pretty damn deliberate).

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yuppers. I have zero sympathy left for MY. In fact I think she is borderline (or maybe not so borderline) psycho. And the fact that she caused the death of someone with her premeditated drink spiking makes her guilty of murder.

But I don't think she actually realizes what she has done - it is like she blocks off all the bad things in her mind. In the end I think she will end up in a mental ward, not jail

0

Required fields are marked *

I wouldn't call MY psycho but weak, self-delusional and desperate. Because confronting the reality she knew deep down was too much to face.

She was desperate.

= Desperate for the love and affection she knows wasn't/isn't there
= Desperate enough to keep deluding herself time and again although she knew the whole truth

Sad.
I sympathise, though I would also consider her a murderer.

"Psycho" is kind of an all inclusive term for "batshit crazy", which I think applies here.

Yes, she has all those issues you noted and more, such as feeling pathetically inferior (ie, the silly cake tantrum). But the fact that she totally ignores every possible warning sign possible and retreats into her own fantasy tells me she will end up in a hospital, not jail - forever.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

@jusash,
I agree w you that at first look MY doesn't seem to be psycho.
She is "weak, self-delusional and desperate". I think that describes Some psycho patients, tho not all. It depends on How delusional and desperate they are, and What their delusions make them do. In MY's case, those conditions have already made her do what she did to Eun Ha, so I think she pretty much qualifies at this pt. Perhaps she'll up her qualification quota later. ?

0

Required fields are marked *

And as @windsun said in 12.2, "MY doesn't even realize what she has done…she blocks off all bad things in her mind". That is not a sign of mental normality or clarity.
She knows full well that her husband doesn't love her, but loves another woman, yet, she behaves that way w him. "Crazy in love" takes on a sinister meaning w her.

Required fields are marked *

Yupz I get what you all are saying. It's just I didn't really feel M was inherently cruel nor deliberately plotted the murder (it seemed more opportunistic rather than thought-through, and she was desperately reactive)

Totally insecure both with her family and SH, yes. Which perhaps is another reason to continue the fantasy, rather then healthily jolt herself back to reality because even her family is non supportively cray-cray.

0

@KDaddict?JCW YESSS!!! This is how I feel! I suddenly lost my support for MY. No sympathy for u MY. I don't want her on my otp's team at all now. Whatever happens to MY is right. Still, it takes a "special" woman to think she is pregnant when her period is only 1 week late. Come to think of it, isn't it true that pregnancy stick tests don't work at least till one is 2 weeks+ pregnant?

I thought she'd killed her way back at the start of the show (she said something to her hubby like "you should support me even if I've killed someone") and then he went and very gracefully dove into the pool to find EunHa had drowned. I just didn't know exactly what happened - drugged wine made a lot of sense.

I wonder what the laws are in Korea concerning "omission" (failure to act). In my country, under our laws Mi Yeon is a murderer, just like her husband. Mi Yeon had a "duty of care" to act in that situation, she breached that duty by choosing not to act. In criminal law, that is known as omission, and it is a crime. That fact that she walked away after seeing Eun Ha struggling makes it worst. She should be jailed, just like her psycho husband.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

In this case the "omission" part would only add to it. The fact that her actions, which were premeditated, caused the death of another makes it a capital murder offense.

It would be just like if she had spiked a car drivers water, and he crashed, killing 3 people - she would be guilty of murder x3.

I feel like JS has become MW's guardian angel~ The way she's all protective and looking out for him secretly ahh it's just so so good!

So many good things in the last two episodes, finally we have more momentum with JS stepping up. Like her finally fufilling all the promises she told her workmates back in the past. I love that we aren't just shown she suddenly knows Eun Ha's friends, because we have been consistently shown that she's been researching and reading up EH's past.

When JS discovered EH & SH's love nest, I was like whoa they really did go all the way. I find it interesting how the show portrays EH as someone who wasn't sure about committing to SH's plans. Now it feels like he's the one who wants it more than she does, and was just pulling her in. I'm glad EH had brains to give herself time and think things over.

I find it sad that even though MY has been telling SH they're going to have a baby he still seems unaffected. He did have some moments where he appears touched but judging by how he let go of the baby onesie and went to see EH's grave instead, it shows where his heart really lies. I also find it hilarious how SH didn't hear MY behind him, I mean heels on marble floor make the loudest noise ever. At least make her wear wedges or something so it's more mobile and silent. It'd be nice if MY & JS can team up when she realises JS just wants to protect MW, but I have a bad feeling. What if somehow in the future JS is the reason why MY has a miscarriage...

One good thing about SH is that he can always handle the crap people who target JS. So I'm really happy he's taking care of the loan shark, let him suffer please.

Okay it's 12.30am here in New Zealand I really need to go to bed.

It makes me wonder if in the future JS's identity gets exposed, and despite her poor background MW will still accept her & love her? Or maybe that is most likely the ending...

Love the bromance! And of course, the one-tier cake!!! Hahaha!! The household staff definitely loves JS and even the paid maid decided not to go through with SH's dirty deeds. ^^V

MY having something to do with EH's death was no surprise to me. I suspected as much from that first ep with the wine drugging. I guess she never realized how far she got with her scare tactics. I'm curious what she will do now that she knows JS is not EH. I also want to see her break through SH's hold on her since she must be aware that he's been plotting against MW and using JS...

SH is slowly losing control and I can't wait to see what he will do next.

About the arrest of the Psychiatrist, it is obvious that his charges were false and made up to save him further from bigger crime of implanting false memory (of killing someone) and giving illegal drugs to MW by SH. Also if MW got him first, him being sane would have been proved to his family esp. his father which would have watered down SH's plans... now MW feels helpless because he cannot sue the doctor while the father thinks he needs better doctor! Smart move by SH!

Then maybe he figured out that MW already knew the pills were hallucinogen.

I don't think he's sure of that, because he's been mentally abused so long. He probably did have some trauma from his mom's death, but it seems like he's probably mostly outgrown it.

Agreed. He wasn't doping patients with hallucinogens, he was specifically gaslighting Minwo, and that had to be covered up.

I am so loving mask right now because it's Daebak in all sorts of ways ❤

AND THE BEST WORD I CAN SHARE AT THIS MOMENT IS :

------WHY MIN WOOO WHYYYY SO CUTEEE ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I think i died a million times when he start singing Happy Birthday to her omggg this is the sweetest thing ever ❤ ❤ all the sweet adorkable talking about their deep feelings, the smiley moments i was giggling all the time, they are so beautiful together ^__^ i really hope they are going to make it through all this secrets and be together and live a normal life like they both wish ◕ ‿ ◕

With that said, episode 12 was even more better than 11, the ending never crossed my mind! MY is the killer damn!!!! that was a twist but i have to say what did shock me in this episode was EunHa inner intentions. Woow i always thought she was a victim and died so cruelly!!! i can't believe she had the nerve to even bother and think about involving herself into Seok hoon plans and possibly killing a poor soul (goosebumps) cause that was the only way for them to get Sj group and be together :S :S That almost backhug at the office is so meaningful i would have done the same, poor min woo so clueless not knowing he was and still the target :(

Best episode ever! There's a whole lot more of humour and sweetness, but still not losing the mystery and suspense.
So...the tier cake was just LOL. (Oh hey I think the maid had been in Gag Concert before) And when Miyeon and her mom went shopping, they looked like a pair of teens getting excited, especially the mom...hahaha!
I don't really know what to think of Miyeon. Is she evil? - when she walked away from a drowning Eunha, she is. But then I think of her defense to Minwoo, and her horror of really killing Eunha, somehow she's not. Nice complex character there.
Jisook is so darn brave. She's now being more foward and bold to protect her loved ones. Ya go, girl!
Minwoo. Oh my, what a sweet guy. End of story.
I love that his dad actually cares about him, by the way.

Let's get one thing straight. If the situation by the pool played out as MY pictured it, she IS a murderer. There is no getting around of it. It wasn't drugging Eun-ha that made her a murderer nor was it even allowing Eun-ha to fall into the pool. MY became a murderer when she clearly saw how Eun-ha struggled in the water and _walked away_. Allowing someone to die when you could easily prevented is same a murder.

Don't get me wrong here, I actually sympathize with MY - probably more than I ought to! I felt really, really bad for her after this revelation and actually felt that SH is more guilty of Eun-ha's death than MY even though technically it isn't true and MY should answer for her crime. No matter how bitchy EH was or how much SH cheated on MY with her, it still gives zero rights for MY to go on and kill EH.

And I also fear for MY's safety now. I do not think SH knows about her killing Eun-ha or if he does, then his blood truly is made of ice. Whatever one says about him, he clearly did love Eun-ha. And considering how he destroys his enemies, he will most certainly destroy the person who killed the woman he loved. Granted, I could believe that he'll wait for a good opportunity if he knew it was MY, but I would expect to see even more seething hate towards her if this were the case. Yes, occasionally it seems like he hates her, but occasionally I can see some sympathy, too. This would not be the case if he knew she killed Eun-ha.

SH must not know, there's no way he knows. I think an unborn baby is a doomed Chekhov's gun in melos... something's gotta happen to that kid, and SH might be the one to do it if he finds out about MY's treachery!

I think the wine poured at the birthday table was actually supposed to be Min-Woo's wine and Ji-sook deliberately drank it to show Seok-hoon she's aware of his plans. That's what the music seemed to suggest, but I don't know anything about glass placement on tables so this just might be my own opinion

Kat: You are most certainly right. MW was clearly surprised when JS took the glass so it was his glass, not hers. And nobody drinks wine like JS did in that scene without some particular reason. She downed the whole glass in one gulp while normally you would sip your wine slowly.

Required fields are marked *

Everyone's glasses was already poured with wine except Min-woo's when MW & JS joined the table so you are right, the wine was for Min-woo. Seok-hoon spicifically told the lady to pour MW's glass when everyone's in the table. And also glasses are placed on the upper right side of the plate and she took the glass from her left side so it's clearly MW's glass.

0

Yup! I also viewed it the same way. MW was the odd glass out and JS made sure SH saw her drinking that supposedly drugged wine before telling him her answer by purposely knocking the purse to the ground. That felt so satisfying!!

@Kat that's what I thought too. That makes a lot more sense than if it was JS's glass. She wasn't SH's target. She drank the wine to prove to SH that his plans won't fall through.

What Seok Hoon was thinking while holding that baby dress??? Was he happy for his child or not???

Second leads or should I say villains in Mask seem to be different in a way from Secret. I remember I had no sympathy or not a moment of feeling good for 2nd leads in Secret, neither the male nor the female. But here in Mask , I kind of feel happy when SH or MY show their bright side. Like SH's interactions with real Eun Ha, I can feel his love, I can feel his sadness after losing EH. I felt so happy to see the glow in MY's face when she expressed her love for her baby. The light moments of SH and MY in shopping mall , I enjoyed that too :)

I don't know it is because of characters or actors but yes I am now a huge fan of Yeon Jung Hoon, I watched VP 1and 2... I liked JJH and SA too but not like I will be waiting for their next work or checking out their previous ones but in case of YJH .... YES:)

I think he finally realized that the baby was real and I felt he was thinking how happy he would have been if he and Eun ha were having a baby and not Mi Yeon and him.

You could see how raw his emotions were, and his masked slipped, he automatically went to the one person he cared for and that was Eun-ha's grave.

SH went to see visit Byun Ji Sook's ashes and uttered EH's name thus giving away the game to MY. It is going to be very interesting how MY will react to this. With baby on board, she is caught between a rock and a hard place. Feels really sad to be her!

I suspect that the sweet moments we see now between JS and MW is the calm before the storm. When MW discovers the truth, there will be hell to pay. Hopefully they can weather the storm albeit with lots of scars :-0

Like a few of us are saying here ... what's with our big, bad villain?

He was the one so many of us said we loved for his evil and intelligent manipulation, for his only weakness being his being drawn towards Ji Sook and being scary in-control.

When did it start falling apart? He's lost control over the maid, over bad-wig Shim, over Ji Sook and over Min Woo's drugging. Although he's still the thorn in her side, Ji Sook has already relegated him to small thorn status LOL! He's even become the one who is manipulated.

Looking back .... among the mistakes he made at the beginning... ie in being too greedy. If he had allowed Eun Ha to be dead, and changed his plans to forget about gaining half share of Min Woo's shares, he would never have had to threaten JS into impersonating her. Bringing JS into the picture introduced a variable he had not planned for... that JS took family a step beyond and that she would value MW in spite of his drug-induced delusions, that she would fight tooth and nail for family even though she seldom defended herself. This is new to SH who hardly cares for wife or child.

Another mistake and a strange one (to me) is that he wanted to kill Jung Tae himself. I'd have expected the deed to be done by Scar. Having the deed recorded means everyone and his mum may get to know about it anytime... However if Shim knows what's good for him, he'll keep it safe. On the other hand, who thinks we may be seeing the last of dear Shim in the near future?

Now that JS has decided what to do to take control, I want to see the game being upped. Let's have our smart SH back again to challenge team JS and let's have JS getting the better of him again and again with MW fighting alongside her. :)

Conjecture: Ji Sook's family and Min Woo are going to have to find out about who JS really is, because she'll probably be the only one with a compatible liver to donate to her mum. It will be this truth coming together with more big, bad from SH that will threaten team JS. How MW decides to react or respond to this will determine the ending of this story. Just. Can't. Wait. :)

My guess (without referencing their stated ages) was that rich politician 'bought' over a daughter from poor family who needed the money. They pretended she was dead and planted a tree at her 'grave'. Because the girls look identical, I assumed that they are twins... but there might be siblings who look strangely alike as in a doppelganger in the family?

I suspect if her identity isn't revealed before her Mom's heath reaches crises level, Ji-Sook will try to "disappear" to help her mother.

I think Min-woo won't let her go and will search until he finds her and the switch is revealed.

Yes, that's very plausible. Min Woo will go crazy looking for her. That is one scenario that I mentioned in one of the previous' ep comments... however what I'm hoping for now is that our OTP get close enough so that MW will know who JS is, will forgive her the deception (or lay blame where it is due... already he is smart enough to ask if JS is being threatened by SH) and will cooperate with her so that no one else (in addition to the many who do know) need know of her impersonation.

He's a hateful but necessary plot device to add more compulsion to JS's decisions. I had the feeling that originally he might have been meant to do more, but that was changed in the writing. More attention has been turned to the OTP now and less to the machinations of the baddies. Still he's been kept around for some sinister purpose, I feel too. And I agree, that it will not be for long because he was a 'dog' goading a 'bear' and Scar to boot. Even if SH does not get around to killing Shim, Scar may decide to take the initiative. :)

I'm wondering what was the entire plan of SH. Even if he gets rid of Min Woo, he is married to MY. He would never truly be with Eun-ha unless he gets rid of MY. I think that was going to be the 2nd half of the plan.

MY is at a crossroads. She may team up with JS but I think its more likely she will team up with SH now that she realizes that she killed EH. Join the evil outright in order to get any attention from SH.
SH has had great power in manipulating situations so both JS and MY were goaded into falling in line with him. But he always made sure it was their decision. With MY it was the watch lies. With JS it was threats with the loan sharks and then her family and her identity. By making them decide to go along with him entangles them in his web of evil and makes them complicit. JS found a way to thwart him. MY may feel too guilty to try to back out.

Im also wondering hw that was suppose to work. Two divorcees getting together? Wouldn't K-society frown down on that? And not only wud it be hard to accept nut it'd also be suspicious. Was SH super-delusional even then? The plan whatever it is doesn't seem to be that great from what we now know. I mean, was EH suppose to make her decision on her b-day to marry MW and go through with the plan? Probably. Or was she suppose to get married then relay her decision to SH? Seems less likely. What wud've happened if she decided not to do it? Was the whole plan really so contingent of EH marrying MW that he needed JS after EH died, so that he'd have a partner in crime?

Thank you for the recap. I picked up the drama midway through and I'm really enjoying it.

"My guess is that she was only playing a cruel joke, but that she didn’t mean for Eun-ha to be seriously harmed. Mi-yeon doesn’t seem that evil, and she appears genuinely horrified that Eun-ha actually died."

-Even if Mi-Yeon was only playing a "cruel joke" from the scene her decision to let Eun-ha drown was not a panic reaction but a deliberate decision. She had plenty of time to help but chose not to. She also surveyed the scene and immediately went to erase the cctv tape.

-After seeing that scene it occurred to me the Mi-Yeon and Seok-hoon are well matched. The surprise is she probably has him at an advantage because Mi-Yeon know how diabolical he can be but Seok-hoon has no idea how far Mi-Yeon will go to get or keep what she wants.

Ok so we saw when JS found her mom, she remembered she had an "unnie". But i know koreans use the term hyung or unnie even in twins when it's only a matter of being a few minutes older.
So lets assun EH her "parents" actually "bought" EH from JS 's family (we know the dad is a no good and they Always were short of money yet they had at one point enough money to set up a restaurant) that explains the look alikes.
It would also be a good angel if someone uses the DNA evidence to prove JS isn't EH for the adoptive parents to come out with their secret and thus thwarting whatever villain used the DNA evidence.
It also explains why JS keeps seing EH at crucial moments of her decision making, the link between twins is very strong (i see this in my own sisters)
i agree that walking away from someone who is drugged and fell into a pool = murder, not premeditated, but a murder of opportunity as they call it. Maybe the stepmom did the same thing to MW's mother??!!?? she drowned too didn't she?
i think SH is displacing his love for EH to JS as the are very alike, i think EH was a strong woman too, he seems to rather like it when JS goes against him.that's why it drives him insane too see JS and MW getting along and kissing. He's so jealous that his substitute love is falling for another man.Probably why he killed that scumbag old schoolfriend himself, because he "dared" to claim he messed around with JS.

The drama balanced romance, melo, evil plotting from villain and humor nicely..

My favorite characters are still Ji Sook and Min Woo and this week's episodes show they're falling in love and care about each other..

Min Woo can be nominated as best husband in dramaland while Suk Hoon is the worst husband!
Min Woo will do anything to protect his wife and makes her happy. While SH, dude, he never do anything to make MY happy, he didn't even crack a smile during their interactions in this entire episode.

The story progressed nicely, our OTP started to fall deeply for each other and communicate like how husband and wife should be, the secrets revealed bit by bit, but not too much.. This one is much better than the other Wed-Thu drama finished this week! (Yes, I glare at you, Warm and Cozy)

Btw, writer-nim, PD-nim, please give us a kiss between our OTP next week!

Thanks for another great recap LollyPip. Weeks of fun this summer thanks to Mask. One of the reasons I love it so much is that there's always a nugget of surprise sprinkled in each episode. OTP & cast chemistry...Keep it coming!

Beyond the characters and storyline what a relief it is to have the main female leads look feminine, fashionable, and exude beauty while reveling in their own style of femininity from head to toe. Not just in 1 or 2 but all the episodes! I commend the style team/wardrobe department/costume designer for (1) the eye-catching shoes JS & MY are wearing (Good job with the PPL ranging from green moccasins to stunning high-heels.); (2) the colors of nail polish (from white, yellow, to dark-colored, etc.) JS has worn on her feet in different scenes; and (3) the dramatic and distinctive earrings MY wears.

MW & JS - I adore this OTP. But in the back of my mind, I know its the calm before the storm.

Besides the flower, MW gifted JS with a beautiful Teardrop Diamond (aka Pear Shaped/Cut Diamond) wedding ring. Although a less conventional look, the teardrop diamond is known for its truly unique and unusual shape. The elongated pear shape, inspired by oval and marquise cuts, is a combination cut of the round-brilliant and the marquise with lots of sparkle featuring both a rounded and pointed end and generally considered to carry a more dramatic flair than the traditional round shaped diamond. The symbolism and meaning in the teardrop diamond is worth noting. A pear cut diamond ring can be worn with the diamond facing either way – allowing the wearer to create different looks, depending on their mood. A choice that possibly suggests and alludes to even-tempered and adaptable on both their parts? Bear in mind, it may also be a prelude to tears of sorrow or joy.

Another interesting tidbit of info: a pear diamond ring (often set in a halo) requires specialized settings — particularly with an added prong to protect the point of the diamond. For instance, in a six prong setting five of the prongs support the bulk of the diamond and the sixth prong supports and protects the fragile point.

Yeon Jeong-Hun (aka Yun Jung Hoon) as SH - During the scenes when MY told SH she was pregnant and also when SH was looking at the baby clothes MY had purchased I couldn't help but think of how painful those scenes may have been to film/act out knowing that he and his wife Han Ga-In were expecting last year but sadly suffered a miscarriage. I wish YJH & HGA all the best.

I dunno why but I actually like the villains in this drama. I know I'm suppose to hate Seok Hoon because he's a murderer and an all around evil guy but he can be so damn funny sometimes with his constant deadpan expressions and occasional smirks. Even Mi Yeon, who I think is a bit of a psycho, seem like a fun person to hang out with or at least have a drink with (through a straw of course lol). I bet the actors are just having way too much fun with their characters.

Thanks Lollypip!!! You thoughts echo all of mine. So I'm not even gonna comment on anything except for MW! This episode took the cake (certainly the one tier one anyway, heh). Try as she might, JS already fell or MW. She can deny her feelings all she wants but its becoming so apparent. Who knew she was the cheesy type? "the best present is..you"?!! Her lines did me over. Then there was that time she told MW that she wanted to see him smile...GAHH!! Who knew she cud smile like that? Best episode yet!

Im going to go out on a limb her with a theory. Maybe JS knew EH's answer due to the red purse perhaps? Why is it that she only sent a red purse? What abt a white one to match the white dress? And the camra focused on her setting the purse on the table. I knw I said I wudn't comment on anything else but how can I not theorise? Well, now that ive started might as well continue.

Why wud SH go to such lengths as to kill MW. Contrary to some theories online, he had already planned with EH to kill MW. He wasn't motivated by revenge due to EH's death. Ep 12 shows that it was always the plan. But then im wondering wats going on in his head. Somewhere along the line he decided that just sending MW to a mental hospiy=tal wud be enough. Why plan to kill MW just for a spot in the company? And if he didn't really suspect MW sinc he had the doc plant false memories in MW's head, then doesn't he suspect sum1? He hasn't really done anything to find out who did it. But I can't imagine inaction when EH was the love of his life. So does he knw it was his wife? Doubt it. Since he wud've treated her much worse.

Also, I left the MY+JS+MW team after this ep. I can't c MY getting on their side now. Why wud she ight her hubby?

Required fields are marked *

Continued...I got cut off some how.

Anyway with what motivation will MY fight her husband? She is blinded by love and is willing to believe his lies. Now I knw she had a hand in EH's death, I think the two of them make the perfect couple. If MY was innocent in all this I wud've still rooted for a team including her and the otp. But sorry I cant now. What I can see is MY treating JS a lot better (since that wud cover up her crime) and just keeping JS's secret to herself. Everyone (except Ji Hyuk) seems to be keeping JS's secret for their own self interest anyway.

Its interesting that now that JS is not 'weak and passive' the hate for Soo Ae has all but vanished. In the earlier eps numerous ppl were going of the roof abt hw they were annoyed with how JS was portrayed etc. But now that the character has done a 360 she's a good actress now. I did always say that issue as the writing not the acting. Anyway, can't complain things are getting better. The ratings have gone up and the feedback is very positive.

Just coming across instead as sweet and cute, totally in character with their 2 personalities (lol to the way he put on her ring so nonchalantly-gruffly, but yet so meaningfully as well).

Yes very addictive indeed! We need a kiss and some skinship now after the ring.

Loved them loving ? each other while pretending not to and pretending not to know. JS saw right through that gruffness with that smile in her eyes! ?

He was such a sweetie, just standing around and watching them preen and pick. To tell the truth, I'd personally be bored too! I just loved his expression in all the selfies. Such an unexpected joke ?? to entertain us viewers! ??

This drama 'Mask' is best of the best for 2015 imho. Re-watching the episodes and going back to those sweet loving scenes between Min Woo and Ji Sook for countless times and reading the recaps/comments is a great help to take me to next Wednesdays/Thursdays. I don't know what will happen when the drama ends. Please do continue to comment afterwards to ease all our separation anxiety. :) Enjoying the comments, keep it coming!!

@luvKdramas

Aaah, I see you've reached the addicted level where there's just not enough of this show. That's how it was with Healer and some of us and why until today, the Healer Ep 20 thread is still alive. ?

I know right! :)

I'd have to admit that MASK, and only Mask took me across to the other side (kdramas addicted). I am so drawn to this particular drama that I can't watch others at this time.

MASK, let's show us some serious fireworks happening between MW and JS!!

@luvKdramas I beg to differ. I LOVE Mask. It is my current addiction but I still think KMHM is the best. Healer is a pretty good contender too. I remember when I was watching KMHM I couldn't watch anything else truly. They also didn't match up. And they made me so bored. But anyway the point is that when ur so into a show that watching anything else is jus not appealing, then u knw u've been pulled in. And u knw ur addicted when u don't even wait for the subs anymore and stalk online forums for anything linked to the show. :)

@Camille W

OMG, you've hit the nail!!

I never wait for the subs because I find it really refreshing to watch the raw episodes so that I could pay attention to the actor/actress' acting as opposed to reading the subs. Especially those cute lovely scenes between the leads, you know what I am talking about! It's like never mind the sub, let's take a closer look and repeat it once more.

I honestly thought that KMHM would give me that little push over the fence but hey, Mask did it. :) Min Woo (Joo Ji Hoon) is killin' me! Yah.... there's no going back now.

I'd have to check out Healer after 'the' hangover. :)

For most of the dramas, I'd have to read the comments first before I decide whether to watch or not. So, I will keep an eye for all the comments! Y'all give honest feedback for the dramas which is greatly appreciated.

Anneyoung (did I even spell that right?) @GB!!! Just saw some stills for the next ep! Looks like our otp and the office workers are on some trip. Maybe a company outing? Our otp are in for some more cute moments. We see the two of them holdings hands and making their way over some stepping stones over a river. So cute! Here the link for the vid: http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/dU4ZYh62GII/

Soo Ae is damn good in the role of Ji-sook / Eun-ha. Did anyone else notice that Ji-sook smiles in a different manner than Eun-ha? Even though they are identical, their mannerisms are so different. Ji-sook's smiles at Min-woo are very sweet, very innocent and charming, there's something unselfconsious about her smiles; while Eun Ha's smiles to Seok hoon are more confident, harder and more self aware and assertive. Even by looking at the selfies you can see that they are two very different people. I just want to give the actress kudos for creating two very memorable characters.

I also like the fact thatthat Ji-sook is very honest with her compliments and her expressions to her hubby. She's gaining confidence and with that, she now feels very confident to let him know how important his place is in her life. Especially after she's made the decision to support him come what may. It's good to see them falling in love. I just wish there was a llliiiiiiiittttttlllleeeeeee bit more skinship involved. More hugs and kisses, writernim, jebal. lol.

Okay, just felt like sharing this... So my teenage daughter is coming down the stairs and says " Mom WHAT are you watching?!" I just looked up at her and smiled (she knows that I'm into these kdramas) "You just have a constant silly smile on your face!" Ha Ha

Yes!! that's how ep. 12 got me! And I'm sure I laughed out loud a couple of times as well. This was the best episode yet!! I'm loving all the cutesy/loving moments between our OTP, and the funny ones between MW and his assistant. Who by the way, I think his assistant is just adorable. I'm loving that JS is in protective mode, and finally using what she can find out about EH to her advantage.

I want to see more skinship and kissing plz. I need some more episodes like this one to just enjoy. Because hey, let's be real, we know that there's going to be a roadblock at some point between our OTP ( and please writers, don't make it stretch out too long), but after 10 episodes of agonizing, do us fans a service and give us some more episodes with the feels in it pleeeeez!

This is the first time that I am watching/keeping up with a kdrama as its airing. (binge watching was proving to be detrimental to my sleep, familiy life, activities etc etc).
Thankful to dramabeans for their recaps and you guys for your thought and comments :)

My name is ....... and yes, I am a kdrama addict :D

It's not a bad incurable place to be. :P

I got hooked in 2001, and haven't left! Though viewing is less intense these days( too many offerings), and like no sleep deprived marathons and such. And not as many bigtime withdrawals (though Healer left a small void, and Love fr a Star)

Same here, Healer left a small void...but I was still able to fill it. This one came along at the right time because I just finished marathoning Love from another star. Mask caused me to stop watching the other two dramas that I was watching concurrently because they just didn't measure up. This is going to leave a BIG void. Don't know what I'm going to do.
