News bites: November 5, 2016

Lee Jong-seok, Lee Jun-ki, Park Hae-jin, Ji Chang-wook
Lee Cho-hee, Taecyeon, Kai, Choi Ji-woo

  • What I wouldn’t give to body swap with Lee Cho-hee (Lucky Romance). She’ll star in web drama The Sixth First Kiss, which will basically serve as a giant ad for Lotte Department Stores. (But with this cast, I’m willing to overlook any gratuitous PPL.) Choi Ji-woo (Woman With a Suitcase) is a “shopaholic love angel” who will help Lee choose from six enticing suitors. Lee Jong-seok (W–Two Worlds) is a top star who makes the hearts of women flutter, Lee Jun-ki (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) is a newly rich church oppa, Ji Chang-wook (The K2) is a sexy secret agent, Park Hae-jin (the upcoming Man to Man) is a swoony supervisor at work, EXO’s Kai is an electric younger man, and Taecyeon (Bring It On Ghost) is the innocent son of a wealthy household. The fantasy romance will be directed by Jung Jung-hwa (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, Flower Boy Next Door) and there’s no news on when it will be available, but I’d imagine sometime before the end of the year if the Lotte-backed and -produced project aims to boost holiday sales. [News 1, Sports Q]

  • IU, Suzy

  • We’ll catch a fleeting glimpse of Suzy (Uncontrollably Fond) and IU (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) in Real, the upcoming noir criminal film starring Kim Soo-hyun (You From Another Star) as a “fixer.” The ladies spent a day filming their guest appearance, lending their star power to a lineup that also includes Lee Sung-min, Sung Dong-il, Sulli and Lee Kyung-young. Filming has just wrapped and Real will hit theaters sometime before next summer. [Herald]
  • This is definitely the cameo to look forward to the most in SBS’s upcoming fantasy romance Legend of the Blue Sea: My Sassy Girl co-stars Cha Tae-hyun and Jeon Ji-hyun reunited when Cha stopped by to film a surprise cameo in the drama. He’ll share a scene with Jeon Ji-hyun, their first reunion in fifteen years since their rom-com classic in 2001. [E Daily]
  • It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s looking like variety drama Sound of the Heart will take Unnie Slam Dunk‘s spot on KBS on Friday nights in December while the latter goes on a brief hiatus. The web version of the webtoon remake starring Lee Kwang-soo (Dear My Friends) and Jung So-min (D-Day) hits Naver TVCast on November 7. [TV Report]

  • Sohn Hyun-joo, Jang Hyuk

  • Ordinary Person is not the first film to be financed by crowdfunding, but the incentives for its campaign are a bit different. The movie stars Sohn Hyun-joo (Signal, Three Days) as a father who makes a poor decision on behalf of his family and Jang Hyuk (Beautiful Mind) in his first bad guy role. Not only will participants get typical early bird perks such as advance tickets and their names in the ending credits, but those who contribute to the campaign are also considered “investors” and will receive a percentage of receipts that get paid out — the greater the crowd, the higher the percentage. The film will be released in the first half of 2017. [Herald]
  • He received a number of film and drama offers following the success of Answer Me 1988, but Ahn Jae-hong recently decided on a stage role for his next project. He’ll take on the character of Young Man in director Park Geun-hyung’s award-winning play Ode to Youth, and he’s said to have chosen the offer because of a desire to interact with audiences and to receive a new kind of energy on the job. Through Young Man’s story and the story of young people around him, the play seeks to highlight a love of humanity and an admiration of youth. Tickets go on sale November 14 and Ode to Youth will raise its curtains on December 8 at Daehak-ro’s Art Forest. [DongA]

  • Ahn Jae-hong, Yeon Woo-jin

  • Yeon Woo-jin (Divorce Lawyer in Love) will play a rugged NSA agent in the action movie In the Line of Fire. Set in the 1970s, it’s about a South Korean economist who first defected to the North, then sought asylum in Germany. In the process, he had to leave his family behind, and the film will follow what happens once they’re reunited. Scenes were shot recently in Poland, and the cast, which includes Lee Beom-soo (Last) and Park Hyuk-kwon (Six Flying Dragons), is now back to filming on domestic soil. In the Line of Fire will premiere on the big screen in 2017. [DongA]
  • Trouble seems to be brewing for the latest from writer Park Kyung-soo (Punch, Empire of Gold, Chaser). Advance first dropped its medical premise in favor of a police storyline, and was intended to follow Doctors on SBS. The drama subsequently got pushed to follow Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, then Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, and currently is on the schedule to follow Defendant in March. However, Park has confirmed that he is letting go of the cop backdrop and starting over from scratch. It’s no wonder the drama hasn’t nailed down its cast; Lee Bo-young is still unconfirmed as the female lead. [Joongang]

I'm rethinking my wish for the power to fly in exchange for shape shifting ability ala Mystique. I'll become Lee Cho Hee for however long it takes to get my kisses from Lee Jong Seok, Lee Joon Gi and Ji Chang Wook ( don't care about the rest).

So much pretty in that first webdrama! Honestly, I don't even care about the story, the cast will be more than enough to make me invest some hours ? (That smiley looks so sleezy lol) Not keen on Taec as an actor though and Kai was pretty bland in Choco Bank, but hey, at least he's handsome.

Yeah I was excited until I got to Kai's name. His acting creds so far... has not been great. Fingers crossed the character will be more exciting than Choco Bank's

As for Key, I doubt he'll sign on to another drama anytime soon. His schedule is looking pretty full til May 2017 with a musical season, shinee comeback and overseas concerts. I hope he doesn't pile on more work on top of his existing ones like he did with Drinking Solo (he juggled concert prep and a comeback with the filming).

Just based on the character profile, I think Cho Hee should choose Park Hae Jin. Everyone else seems problematic. Though, dating up at work has its challenges. 2nd choice Lee Jun Ki.

Yessssss!! My thoughts exactly.

Dating top star LJS might be burdensome, being with JCW might be dangerous, younger man Kai may be unstable and..... not another cheabol.
So 1. PHJ and 2. LJK hahaah.

Even though my first bias is JCW, but I'd dating Church Oppa Lee Jun Ki if I was in such luxury.
1. Lee Jun Ki
2. Park Hae Jin
3. Taecyeon

Newly rich church oppa is so random but admittedly refreshing. It screams nice guy. LCH can't have them all, wouldn't mind Choi Ji-woo having her own love line.

I love it how we are choosing between 6 hot guys, such that dating a heart fluttering top star and sexy secret agent ranks below a rich church Oppa ?

If only we had such problems in real life!

I agree that if this is real life it makes more sense to choose either PHJ or LJK's character. Dating a top star with lots of fangirls might be crazy. You'll have sasaeng stalking you and bashing you in your SNS. And you'll have no privacy. Dating a secret agent might be dangerous. Dating a dongsaeng or a guy way younger than you may be unstable and you may face social stigma. While if you choose the chaebol then you still have his chaebol parents to answer too. And that one is tough!! That will be my last choice seriously.

Dating a co-worker you've know for a while might be a better idea. The church guy is okay too. Although I personally do not like guys who are way too religious since I am not but he is still a good choice nonetheless.

I think Jang Hyuk has acted as a baddie before though, in the movie Empire Of Lust.

It was my first time seeing:
1. him with long hair, he even had a top not( looked delicious)
2. in a saguek( had only seen Iris 2 and that The Producers cameo where he was so fresh, i didn't recognize him)
3. In eyeliner( EYELINER!!)
4. in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sex scene(.........)!

Bonus: Kang Hanuel's super sleazy character.

Empire of Lust was such a terrible film, but I thought Jang Hyuk, Kang Ha-neul and Kang Han-na did well in their respective roles.

For Jang Hyuk in a sageuk (and he's done many!), I recommend Chuno.

Can't wait for Ordinary Person!

If they are getting all these actors they should make sure to give them scenes together and not only with the lead actress ( which I think is more likely). But we hardly ever get to see all leading men a drama except for cameo appearances so it would be nice to see them interacting with each other in scenes.

Why is Ordinary Person funded like this? Sorry I've never heard of something like this... is it common in South Korea?

I want to watch but this makes me a bit concerned... it's like they don't have enough money to make the movie!

Maybe they just want to try crowdfunding so you don't have One Influential Investor forcing you to write things in a certain way, cater to a certain audience, etc.

When I read the initial news about all those actors in a web drama, I did not believe it because damn how were they able to get all to sign up. Who'd be the lead? Now it makes sense because it's basically one extravagant PPL and not a drama per se. I think the guys will not even have a scene together and it'll just be with the heroine. Lucky girl got to have six first kisses.

I am waiting for Advance since they announced the project. I want to see Park Kyung soo`s next drama so much but it sounds like he doesn`t have a clear idea what he wants. I wish he will find his inspiration, write the script and then look for the proper cast. I still trust him to write a good drama.

The previous works by Park Kyung-soo (Punch, Empire of Gold, and Chaser) have been excellent. ....... If the story this time around is not coming together to reach the same level as these previous works, and the writer knows this, which is what may be happening, then it's fabulous that the writer is starting over.

Kudos to the writer for not wanting to deliver a mediocre work if this is the case right now. ...... I haven't been let down with the three previous dramas. I'm more than willing to wait for that fourth one from Park Kyung-soo.

In Korea in December. Will make a beeline for Lotte, over the other department stores. I am willing to show through my money I am very glad something like this exists. Ha.

Also just watched the most recent teaser for Goblin. The age difference here weirds me out more than anything else this year.

I also curious how much Lottle pay for all actors. Maybe it's too much so they even can't cast a better actress (better population)?

Go to Korean sites. Knetz have all let that go and are now mad and calling out the media and the 'trash journalists' for writing the article and instigating a witch hunt. Knetz seems to be more smarter now. They know the media are using this celebs and other issues to try and sway some people's attention and anger toward this personalities and they aren't falling for it this time. There are commenting on how the main issue is CSS and the president.

I'm happy to hear that!! enough with politicians damaging the reputations of celebreties and other people to divert the attention from their bad deeds!! it reminds me of the drama Pinocchio and I'm glad that people won't let go of the main issue to go after a created rumor!! I hope everything gets solved pretty soon for Park Hae Jin's sake!! he's a good person and a talented actor that I wih him the best!!

Isn't Teac an 88er like Kim Soo Hyun?! If so then he can still postpone the enlistment if he wanted too. Yoo Ah In, Kim Junsu etc. are 86er and they still have not gone to military. This year is their deadline though. Plus there are still 87ers like Lee Min Ho, Joo Won, Ji Chang Wook, TOP etc. who is next in line by next year. 88ers deadline is on 2018.
