[Vlog] K-Dramas we would watch again (and again)

We’re back with another video!

We got a lot of questions asking for recommendations for dramas, as well as shows we like to revisit when we want to retreat into something familiar. So we decided to spend a video talking about the dramas we loved so much we would watch them over (and over), as well as maybe some dramas we really loved but wouldn’t maybe want to see again.

Without further ado, here’s our latest video, and our Dramabeans Youtube channel where you can subscribe for updates.

OOooo Story of a Man is another one of those great dramas I loved all the way through... but it would destroy me on some level to watch it again. For several reasons. Within the world and without. Moonlight Drawn by clouds is another I rewatch for the cute, fluffy puppy love <3<3 But also for the friendship moments in the beginning of the series. That's what was so great about the relationships in that drama. I loved the threesome as friends but they transitioned them so well I was still totally onboard when yoojung and bogum became lovers.

Misaeng is my favorite drama of all time but I could not bring myself to watch it again since it reminds me of the things I hate in the corporate world and the struggles I went through in it.

For a re-watch, my go to is either Healer, Reply 1988, or Dae Jang Geum <3

Misaeng is my favorite and I thought I would never be able to rewatch it but I surprisingly still do. Even if it tells you the harsh reality, it shows you that you are not the only one dealing with these problems in the world.
For JBand GF I would really like to hear your remarks on Korean red carpet fashion since many of the award shows are about to start and not necessarily red carpet but also dramas fashion, airport fashion in general by Korean stars.

I think I would rewatch half of dramas that I have finished. But so far the ones that I have rewatch again and again are romcom such as
Coffee Prince and Moonlight Drawn by Clouds.

it took me quite a number of years but it was worth rewatching Coffee Prince and Princess Hours. Next goal would be Phantom/Ghost, Dream High…

Imo, Phantom would be a better drama if it was shorter. It took me few months with hiatus for several weeks to finish it. I like it though, but I don't think I will rewatch it. Romcoms are always easy to watch hence they are on my top list to rewatch.

Two Weeks! I dunno it's not exactly a favourite of mine, but I find myself rewatching it many times probably because of the countdown, and probably because I can't seem to get my head around the fact that so many unpleasant things can happen within a fortnight. Lol. Ex-Girlfriend Club, though not my favourite as well, is something I find good for rewatching because of the humour and the really messy entanglements. Long sageuks also give me a lot of episodes to choose from, and I normally pick the parts before shit hits the fan, skip the really sad/hellish bits, then watch the episodes where the main characters see each other again in differing circumstances and how they move on from there. Heh.

Ha! I'm with you there. When revisiting dramas/films, I like scrubbing through videos to focus on my favorite storyline. Like a Phantom Start wars edit.

I don't know why, but watching javabeans and girlfriday talk just makes me smile. The same way as the dramabeans podcasts always had (have?) me in stitches - so I had to choose carefully when/where I listened to them!
So maybe things for me to rewatch are just these Vlogs whenever I need cheering up?

You’re Beautiful
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

At the moment, I’m stuck with all the romantic scenes in Tomorrow with You. I keep on coming back to Lee Je Hoon and Shin Mina’s electrifying chemistry. I swear if Shin Mina isn’t dating Kim Woo Bin I wouldve thought the on screen scenes were real! The interactions were just so cute and at a very relatable level!

Signal is my all time favorite, but I couldn't rewatch it again, glad to hear that other people doesn't rewatch a favorite drama for some reason, I was asking myself why I can't rewatch it, it's weird the I haven't rewatch it despite my love for it.

Maybe because when I feel like rewatching a drama i like rewatching romance and fluffy dramas with old tropes. I don't rewatch heavy dramas, actually even though i am a fan for 9 years I haven't rewatched anything I started rewatching around last year.

I've rewatched recently Bride Of the Century, currently rewatching 49 Days.
Secret garden is the drama i rewatched the most, also rewatched Secret, tried to rewatch Oh my Ghost and Lie To Me but stopped after few episodes, although I loved them so much while they were airing but i was bored to continue.

My re-watch: Goong, I Hear Your Voice, Splish Splash Love. Planning to watch Healer (very late on the bandwagon!) and Reply series. Maybe it is a good time to watch them since the new line up of dramas has become boring again now that my fav Lee Min Ki drama is almost over.

I rewatch using FF as I can’t waste the time when the villains are droning on again. Coffee Prince is my favorite oldie, Monstar my favorite musical and Healer my favorite action/romance to rewatch. The emotional moments still hold up with each viewing. I also like to rewatch Master’s Sun. That Hong Sisters drama doesn’t get mentioned much. So Ji sub was the perfect tsundere charbol jerk.

I sometimes find myself very indecisive when wanting to rewatch a drama but I can't decide what to watch. It is because I usually have like say a extended weekend or something between rotations and am like oh lets try to watch something and nothing current is peaking my interest so maybe I'll rewatch something. Then I get stuck for hours on end trying to decide what I want to watch and give up and not watch anything or end up just watching my favorite drama clips/OSTs/MVs and calling it good.

Dramas I have watched twice are more the early 2000-2012 era: Secret garden, Goong, and not in that era but I have watched reply 1997 twice and it is always an option in my head to rewatch every time I am thinking about rematching something.

Dramas I would rewatch but haven't yet: Healer, coffee prince, Strong woman do bong soon (I did not mind the serial killing or the gangsters as long as I get my couple moments throughout), Shut up flower boy band (which I have semi rewatch since I remember binging it really fast the first time), moonlight drawn by clouds (especially the first few eps), and maybe while you were sleeping (in a few years if jung hae in doesn't make any good dramas in between). I am prob forgetting a lot of them..

Things I would not rewatch: Goblin probably unless someone made me a bromance ost/mv or clips of just their interactions.

SUNGKYUKWAN SCANDAL.... the funny and humor parts..... HEALER... obviously for the romance part and the thrill.... QUEEN FOR SEVEN DAYS.. the angst, romance and acting!!..... Is it too obvious they are Park Min Young's drama on KBS?... LOL... well, she's worth it to rewatch over and over again, as she carries all the feels, that's very contagious that I also begun to love her co-stars as we..

Signal - I never mind rewinding and sometimes still watched it.
Misaeng - just an amazing journey from start to finish
Because This Is my First Life - the lines are piercing into your heart like an arrow. Just poetic and painfully real
Goong and Coffee Prince - just because:) nostalgia of my 20's

School2013 makes a great re-watch! I think I re-watch it at least once a year, sometimes the whole series, or sometimes just one of the more standout episodes.

I'm currently re-watching Boys over flowers (I kid you not) since it's currently on Netflix. It's my mother's third Korean drama, so I figured I'd join her on the marathon - funnily enough, she's having a blast watching it, whereas I'm having a blast picking it apart. Ashamed to admit, I still love...just for the wrong reasons! Whilst the Japanese version remains my ultimate favourite, BOF remains a long term guilty pleasure.

Another one I've re-watched recently is Pinocchio, which for some reason I enjoyed a lot more than the first time round!

My rewatch dramas are: Healer, Reply 1997, Reply 1988, My Love From Another Star, Shopping King Louie, Chicago Typewriter, Jealousy Incarnate... and I'll probably be adding Go Back Couple and BTLIOF to that list. I can't rewatch intense/serious or dark dramas even though there are some I loved like Misaeng and Signal. It usually has to be light and breezy to some extent!

I honestly don’t rewatch dramas as a whole. Just parts and not even that many - Dream High, YFAS, You’re Beautiful, TPM and Prosecutor Princess (the angsty parts always get me). And recently Goblin - Reaper and Sunny, Reaper and Goblin, Reaper and his hat. It’s hilarious.

What I find really weird about myself is that often times, I end up rewatching not-so-great dramas instead lol. I’ve seen parts of Hotel King a gazillion times. Even Love Rain and That Winter. Maybe I just like Melos lol.

Sometimes when I am on a drama slump I think of rewatching something, but after checking the possibilities I always feel too lazy. The only ones that I have found appealing enough and I have rewatched several times are You are beautiful, I hear your voice and Hana Kimi (the Japanese version). Maybe because they are happy pills and always brighten my mood :)
Misaeng for example is one of my all time favorites, but I don't have the stomach to go through all the pain and depression again.

I love 1% of Anything. Thats one that I've rewatched scenes from many a time. There's one scene in particular that I want to rewatch but I can't find the clip. Makes me think my keyword search skills are lacking.

Dada is meeting with the woman who like Jae In and the woman is telling Dada that Jae In doesn't really like her and that Dada should just give up. Dada calls Jae In and tells him to come down right now and tells him to decide right now who he wants to be with: Dada or the second lead. Jae In falls all over himself assuring Dada that he wants to be with her. All while the second lead is sitting there looking like she bit a lemon.

I have rewatched all of the Itazura Na Kisses more than once. I love that story. For me, its like Pride and Prejudice---I'll take it anyway I can get it. Although some are blatantly terrible (say that you love me, looking right at you while making a stank face AND giving you a side eye) MOST of them have some sort of redeeming value (playful kiss) and there's something enjoyable about it.

Musical moments--Heartstrings. Heartstrings is not the best drama out there (Delightful Gal A called it boring and didn't finish it) but Lee Shin singing "Because I Miss You" after his father dies--gutted me. Same with Jeremy singing the song to his fans while sobbing his eyes out on the bus because he learned that Mi Nyu didn't love him. Every time I think I want to rewatch that drama I remember that scene and go---nope. My heart isnt ready.

Reply 1997 is probably the drama I've rewatched the most. It's an easy watch and the episode length is perfect for rewatching. I've rewatched Six Flying Dragons and Tree a lot as well.

I tried rewatching Misaeng and just became sad. Once is enough, I guess.

Thanks again for these Vlogs, Javabeans and GirlFriday... It's great to see your faces!

I don't watch many dramas from start to finish, but despite the flaws in Oh Hae Young Again, I've rewatched it twice already, and it will stay in my top 10 more or less permanently. The first 3/4's of it are A++ in my book.

I also happen to have just finished rewatching a Chinese drama, Nirvana in Fire, for the second time, and loved it even more after round 2. If any show merits the description, "perfection," I think NIF would be it.

Generally, I tend to re-watch bits and pieces of dramas depending on what mood I'm in. I agree with so many dramas other people have listed, but these are the ones I'm MORE/MOST drawn to rewatch:

1. Reply 1997 -- For the best bunch of high school friends, first loves, and tear-jerking family.
2. Heartless City -- For dark, male magnetism in the form of Jung Kyung-Ho.
3. Secret Love Affair
4. My Name is Kim Sam Soon
5. Older Hallyu dramas: Hotelier, Autumn Fairy Tale, All About Eve
6. Que Sera Sera

I started watching KDrama since 2002 when I was in my early twenties. My first love was Jang Hyuk and my first drama was The Successful Story of a Bright Girl followed by My Girl. I liked that it was the damsel who saved the prince. The recent drama I am addicted to is Black. So, yes it was a long journey and it is continuing. Nowadays I tend to skip plots that are cliche.
1) School 2013 - watch it for bromance
2) Misaeng - Best career motivation
3) Secret Garden / MLFAS - Love
4) Twenty Again - Redemption of self
5) Reply 1988 - Best drama about the 80's
6) Fated to Love You
7) Oh My Venus
8) My Princess - for Song seung heon
9) Beautiful Mind
10) The Successful Story of a Bright Girl

While we're on the subject of what you would watch and rewatch, can I ask whether you both might consider branching out to watching other Asian dramas? In Open Thread, there is often discussion about dramas from other countries, and we beanies often sneak in a few non-Korean drama must-watch recommendations... Dramabeans is SUCH a great website for Korean dramas, but since you're branching out and trying so many different things these days (e.g., video logs, new website, online shop, etc.), I am really curious if non-Korean dramas have a chance here.

You wouldn't need to watch them or recap them live. Instead, you could just have a separate section for non-Korean dramas that has, basically, your thoughts about them. I'm sure there would be a lot to mine if you widened your field to include comparisons between countries... Just sayin'!

I used to rewatch a lot, but now...it just seems like there are too many dramas - many I haven't gotten around to even watching the first time.

The last one I rewatched as She Was Pretty. One day I had an epiphany that Park Seo Joon was a hottie and rewatched the whole thing.

I agree with there needing to be fans who would make special cuts of dramas that feature only the fun parts that I want to watch. I just finished Witch's Court. I need someone to stitch together only the OTP scenes and all of those scenes where the heroine is being sassy or funny.
