Drama viewership ratings for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3, 2019

Well, we’ve made it to November, all in one piece. Though I, for one, am a dizzying mess as I try to binge every drama I can for the end-of-the-year bean count. (My list is looking pretty sad this year, folks.) In any case, we’ve got ratings to discuss.

On Monday, we had the premiere of melodrama VIP, coming in hot at 6.8 percent. With Tale of Nokdu in the 6-7 percent range as well, things are really looking up for this time slot. The mid-week time slot is a little less fortunate, with the majority of viewers still flocking towards When the Camellia Blooms.

Over the weekend, we had family comedy No Second Chances replace Golden Garden; the drama came in with similarly high numbers. As always, everyone in this slot is performing rather well, save for two cable dramas The Lies Within and Melting Me Softly.

I'm really curious. What do you mean with 'Single mother = wagebond - scratch head'?

Don’t you know you shouldn’t try to make sense of this anymore, Kat? Haha.

I think, this is me purely speculating, single mother refers to Camelia, wagebond is of course vagabond. So the equation might mean, the high rating for camelia is somehow understandable while for vagabond is not, hence the head scratch? That or lice happens.

Has SBS gone back to 1 hour episodes? Why is there only 1 rating for VIP?

SBS changes to 1 hour episode but with two parts (part 1 & 2). The ratings supposed to be two for the two parts.

JCW's comeback is a complete flop.

It's pretty boring and I'm not excited to watch it. The story's . . . dull.

Regrettably, thinking about all the shows JCW has been in, I only really liked Healer. I must conclude he is bad at picking shows or just prefers shows that aren't my cup of tea. It's hard to say, the K2 seemed like it was going to be good at start and then it just sort of fizzled, a lot like Yong-Pal really. Suspicious Partner … well I remember not disliking it when it was airing but feeling it was a step down for the lead actress after Shopping King Louie.

JCW word drama ever: Bachelor's Vegetable Store. It's about a man who founds a grocery store chain but it's complicated by an evil chaebol second wife, a hidden identity from childhood, murder attempts, and basically just a whole lot of painful stupid crap. Wang Ji-hye is the female lead and she's not an evil b-word in this one … instead she's whiny and it's sooo much worse.

I'm rooting for that even though I'm not watching the show. It's just good to see that kind of ratings.

Yes, When the Camellia Blooms is raking in the traditional ratings but I am so happy to see Extraordinary you coming first in other metrics such as on line streaming and Good Data report. It sooo deserves it.

I've been watching when the camelia blooms and even if I find the story revolve around the same things over-over and again, the character development is slow and there are some things that weirdly unmatched, I just can't stop watching it.
They have the heart and I feel for every characters. They all layered with their own way of looking at the situation and how they all deal with it whithin them.

I love it because I love them rather than the plot.
Dongbaek can't stand up for herself and Gong Hyo Jin sells it very well but we also never see her someone who wished bad for other people.
She then changes and we all embrace it.

This show has the heart and captured my heart

WTCB is not so much episodic but more contextual. As @pakalanapikake noted in ep23-24 - Even if the same event occurs, it does not mean the same thing - the new context changes how we read it and what it means. Its like this drama has a weird parallax...every time we focus closer in on the story's detail, we are also stepping back or sideways to see more of the context.

We viewers get so used to the usual formulas that when a drama changes it up, it is sometimes hard to adjust your eye.

Fun fact out of all the Mon-Tue dramas only Tale of Nokdu is still filming. Good luck!

That's interesting. I know VIP and Catch the Ghost were both delayed. I wonder if ratings are better when shows are pre-filmed vs. live shooting.
