Speaking of alcohol consumption. After watching Clean Me Heal Me and ID Gangnam Beauty, how is death by alcohol poisoning not a thing in K-Dramas? Gangnam Beauty was especially worrisome.

Marriage Not Dating was similarly worrisome. The main female lead drunk at least one soju bottle per episode… Usually one-shot, if my memory serves well.

South Korea is one of the largest consumers of alcohol (per head consumption) in the world. I’d say the drama is showing a part of reality. Plus, from what I’ve seen in general, college students drink a lot – I found it actually pretty accurate given my experience of university in India & the UK.

I think the ID Gangnam drinking really got to me because of the amount in a short time. I know it happens. I also know it can be deadly.

I don’t know a lot but I think people associate alcohol poisoning with low quality liquor that is why

Yeah, everyone just springs back with a serving of hangover soup in the morning, wth? And this in a country where so many people literally are missing the enzyme to metabolize alcohol. You do so rarely see anyone in the emergency room with alcohol poisoning in a kdrama, it must be very unrealistic.

In Live it was kind of presented that all the drunk people were collected by police to sober but it’s a big problem of korean culture in general – they consider drinking parties a part of their working duty, that’s why kids don’t see often their parents at home, most of them comes very late and very drunk and continue to drink at home, especially men. I didn’t think it is this way, but when I was watching korean counseling TV shows I was quite horrified.

I had the same thought re: Kyung-seok’s drinking, although I may just have an unusually unrealistic view about about how much alcohol people normally consume and normally ought to consume. I guess that comes with (1) living in Canada and (2) being a teetotaler.
