Was trying to think of another romcom male lead I really liked. A romcom lead who respected his partner and wasn’t weirdly possessive. I can only think of Nam Se-Hee. I know Ryan Gold has set a new standard but Se-Hee was damn near perfect!
I was legit thinking of this the other day and the other respectable male lead I could think of Nam Se Hee as well!!!!! Damn dramaland you need to step your game up…
There is also Dong Man in Fight My Way. A very different kind of man from either Ryan or Se-hee, but when he recognized that she was having nervous stomach troubles, he immediately put away his libido and tried to make her more comfortable. Dong Man may have not been the brightest bulb in the world, but he was good people.
I’m really really liking Ryan, but Se-hee still holds first place for me. He doesn’t have the same confidence or openness as RG, but his quiet thoughtfulness, kissing lessons, and kimchi making skills still win for me.
I was honestly livid when I read this this morning and started typing up a passive-aggressive Se-hee appreciation post outlining all of the many many amazing things about him before work but after 8 hours I didn’t care anymore. Let people be wrong. When they rewatch BTLIOF they will remember.
There was something just more endearing about Se Hee. I didn’t and still don’t understand how some people found him emotionless or robotic. As I rewatched it, I realized he did express his emotions just in a different way than most people. I find RG sexier (cause it’s KJW and the show allows him to be sexy) and more confident.
I was literally thinking about this today, and I have to admit Ryan Gold has knocked Se-hee from first place as of now! Which I never thought would happen
I mean, I’ve not watched eps 11&12 yet of HPL, but I do think Se Hee is more realistic ~ he has more flaws and quirks of character than the near perfect Ryan.
But you know, I think I can appreciate and accept either/both snails and lions if the opportunity presented itself 😘
Also yes, Se-hee’s realistic imperfections are what make him perfect. He’s a good person with realistic flaws, but flaws that still allow him to be a good person.
Exactly, I recall in the recaps many people felt he was too awkward and unlikable. But a real person isn’t always alternating between hot and cocky and cute and humble. His abandonment trauma is his only real “flaw” and trauma is not a flaw, though it might lead to bad reactions to things (which he does not have, he’s all in with DM once he likes her, no pushing away or possessiveness (again I haven’t watched ep 11&12)). Where is the bad hair, the concern over cat poop, the wrong assumptions about food?

I knew you would show up to defend Se-hee, but I am aghast at how many have jumped ship for a shiny new boy.

Nah, @mindy I’m also sane. Granted, I’ve been a huge fan of KJW for a long time but if we’re talking about characters, Se-Hee still does it for me.

I knowww 😭😭
But Se-hee will always have a special place in my heart, bc I love his “poetic” nature.
Or maybe RG is number 1a and SH is 1b 😂
