Announcing our new NERS (Netflix Ending Rage Scale), 1 to 10, where 1 is “mostly harmless” and 10 is variously known as “nuke em till they glow and shoot em in the dark”, “gotta go to a furniture store because I ran out of tables to flip at home”, “may all your teeth fall out but one so you can still get a toothache” or simply “!*$^@(*%🤬🤬🤬🤬”
My NERS ratings to date:
Arsedal 10 (the gold standard, if you have gold-colored radioactive waste)
Vagabond 3 (cheer up, it could be worse — see the line above)
Alhambra 1 (referring to the ending, not the entire series or any potted plants therein)
Kingdom 1
Love Alarm 1
Netflix deserves their own scale because their lust for surprise 2nd seasons goes far beyond normal kdrama writer-nim nincompoopery. Note, the NERS scale could also be called the “Whoops We Forgot It’s A Kdrama And Anyway We Have No Idea Why Some People Like Them More Than American Shows” scale.
There seems to be too much of a pattern to NOT suspect them. Even if we don’t see the fine print in the contract we see its shadow (unintentional wrong show?)
I am not so much mad at Vagabond’s ending as I am tired of shit writing that gets way too much money thrown at it for no reason.
Almost all the shows you mention, with the exception to maybe Kingdom depending, their “endings” and hope for a second season because of Netflix, are honestly the least of my problems with them.
Yes, Netflix has a problem with trying to shove second seasons onto the kdrama formula, which everyone likes precisely BECAUSE they’re single season stories, and this is an issue and will probably continue to BE an issue until Netflix realizes we don’t WANT second seasons.
However, ultimately, that won’t solve the shit writing or directing that is heavily apparent in 3/4 of these that I have watched, and it won’t stop shows, Netflix or otherwise, from being badly written, so basically; Netflix being greedy is merely the tip of the ice berg that is my pain and frustrations when it comes to bad shows.
I would add the abrupt ending to ep 8 of First Love to that list (aka the end of season one). It was also a 9-10. Not so dear Netflix, chopping a drama in half does not create two seasons.
This experience would be a first for me cause I have only watched Vagabond. I haven’t even watched the last episodes. Going to watch it now and see how bad it is.

But why limit it just to Netlfix… it’s not like it’s their fault Song Jae Jung can’t write.
Honestly I raged more at Alhambra’s ending than Vagabond’s so… lol
I prefer the term “Jeffrey Ending Rage Scale”

I don’t think Netflix had anything to do with VB’s ending though. It was just aired on Netflix 😆

Although this is pre-Netflix, so I don’t know if this counts, but mine is Vampire Prosecutor 10. I am still hanging on the hope for Season 3. 😭
