Our current favorite empress Jang Nara answers some of the questions submitted by Beanies:

siesta: Secret to fountain of youth #

royal: Any previous character you played you think you’d be friends with in life? #

buckdawna: Having worked heavily in both China and South Korea, I’m curious to hear Jang Nara’s take on similarities and differences in two industries #

littlecat: What do you look for in a script of production team, etc. when deciding what projects to work on? #

gbrd1: Is there any particular actor/actress that you have not worked with yet would love to work with on a future project? #

Ayan: Can you share some of your goals for the new year? #

Lord Cobol: Did you know how crazy An Empress’s Dignity would be when you agreed to do it? #

Thanks for sending in your questions! Stay tuned for more videos in the Ask an Actor series!

AAAH ITS HERE! I've been waiting for this, yall! And I love it! I did not think it was possible to love Jang Nara any more than I already do, but NOW I DO ❤️❤️❤️ Her answers are so genuine and thoughtful. Thank you Jang Nara, thank you dramabeans -- this was so so so great! ❤️ (Now...how do we get her to hang out at a beanie meetup? She has friends in the US? HIT US UP! 😉)

I was surprised when she casually mentioned chatting with friends. I thought she's a reclusive cat lady >__<

This feature is amazing! She's so cute!
I can understand why she would be worried about jian. She was headstrong and impulsive, but also equally intuitive and intelligent. And now she also has Lee hyun by her side. So she needn't worry ;-)

If you're on blog view, they never get listed in that timeline, so unless there's a recent comment they aren't really evident. I do try to remember to check the video tab...

Wow! I never knew there are so many clips a day! This seriously needs a solution.

Maybe a section after "Recent Posts"on the beanie tab could work as "Recent Videos". Just the last 5 or so would be sufficient because most likely we'd click one of those then get lost in the rabbit hole.

4

Correct. And they aren't in the Recent Posts list at the bottom of the page either. I usually check if I have missed any posts on that list. If videos were more evident they would definitely get more comments and attention.

I'm just worried that the clips (which come at 9-12 a day) will overwhelm the recaps, news, and community posts if they're placed in the same spot. But we're definitely thinking of ways to give videos their own prominent space.

4

@mary Maybe for now you could tag the people who had their questions answered in the Ask an Actor videos?

Wow! That was fast. Thanks for adding a recent video list! You and the team are awesome!

So nice to hear that her characters stay with her as much as they stay with the audience!

Ji-an is probably my fav JNR character, and I'm sure she's being a badass somewhere.

I've been vicariously experiencing the madness of TLE through my fellow beanies, and I'm not touching that with 10 feet pole... but I hope I'll be able to tune into her next project.

On well written and plotted: I like the fact that it is all intensional! They are working so hard to make it like that.

It's crazy how good the writing is. So much is happening, but no plot threads are left hanging. Everyone is multidimensional, even the villains and the children. After the mushiness of Memories of Alhambra, the tightness of this script has me in awe. AND it's funny as hell.

Honestly, my fav scene was the one when the younger prince showed Hello his ID. It was a sight to behold. Its a masterpiece of parody.
Let's not talk about Moa here. It does not deserve that much thought.

Yes to all this.

You should watch TLE!!! Only managed to watch it because of the awesome beanies here and I DON'T REGRET IT! It's crazily funny!!

Jang Nara is so sweet 💕 Thanks for this new feature DB 🙂

In the future, would it be possible to have a screen with just the question before the actor starts answering it? It was hard to read the question and keep up with the subs.

Jang Nara is one of my favorite Korean actress. She’s a rare coincidence that worked with my favorite Chinese AND Korean actor (Bosco Wong and Seo In Guk). I’ve grown to love her acting and every drama has made me love her more.

And yeah, Ji An worries me too. Lee Joon Young is still on the loose😥

That was really interesting. Especially the last question about Empress. She started to deflect but then flipped and answered it in the context of the previous question. So I think that was unusually candid for a Korean actress (I'm taking her answer as "no I didn't know it was going to be SO crazy but I'm glad it's popular and I wanted to do the show to illustrate someone who had no power fighting and trying to hang on.")

Hi... love you guys by the way. Jang Nara is an amazing actress. Loved the last empress so much, but I wanna ask. Why was Wang shik's character taken so unimportantly at the final four episodes? Didn't see him even when he died hugging a bomb... no last words or anything, he wasn't even talked about much in the final episode and he started the whole revenge thing. Please I want to know why if anyone's got an answer

The show was extended last minute because of high ratings. Choi Jin-hyuk already had scheduled activities by then: https://www.soompi.com/article/1303870wpp/choi-jin-hyuk-unable-to-appear-in-final-episodes-of-the-last-empress-due-to-schedule

THE LAST EMPRESS was not on my radar when it aired (too many other dramas on my plate at the time), but now that it has finished its run, I'm inclined to give it a watch after viewing this dandy interview with Jang Na-ra. I appreciate her criteria for selecting projects.

I just started watching MY LOVE PATZZI, her second drama (2002), and do I ever have a case of whiplash. ;-)

BTW: Her orabeoni, Jang Sung-won, played the physician-monk in CROWNED CLOWN. The family resemblance is uncanny -- and youthful.
