Male leads cast for Prosecutor Mata Hari

Park Shi-hoo, Han Jung-soo

Lots of casting news these days; here are two more roles that have been filled. SBS’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Prosecutor Mata Hari, which will star Kim So-yeon, has now brought its two leads onboard: Park Shi-hoo and Han Jung-soo.

Park Shi-hoo will reprise (and dial up) the cold persona he showed in previous dramas Iljimae and Family Honor, showing off a sharp, sleek style. His lawyer character graduated from college in the U.S. and returns to Korea, where he passes the bar exam. Though he didn’t grow up in Korea, he takes on important cases for Korean businessmen and is able to help turn those businesses into very prosperous enterprises. This gives rise to a lot of speculation about his past and background, making him a mysterious character.

He’ll find himself pitted against Han Jung-soo for the affections of the lead (Kim’s frivolous prosecutor character); Han is currently heating up television screens (and ajummas’ hearts) as the slave-hunting General Choi in Chuno. Han’s character is also cool-headed and sharp as a prosecutor who throws himself into his work after the death of his wife.

Expectations are somewhat raised for this drama given its production team, as the writer and director led SBS’s Brilliant Legacy to great success last year. Prosecutor Mata Hari is looking to broadcast in April on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Oooh... both are handsome.
I'm thinking which one will make a better pairing with the gorgeousness that is Kim So-yeon!
Yet another drama to look forward to in 2010!

I squee'd like no other when I first found out the other day that Park Shi Hoo is going to be in this :P I was actually kind of hoping he'd do something a little different (and maybe wearing something OTHER than suits?) but he was so awesome in Family's Honor that they clearly casted him because he's good at this type of character.

Oh well, any Park Shi Hoo is better than none as far as I'm concerned!

Wow, PSH was half-naked in Illjimae, General Choi was half naked in Chuno - and both have proven they are major beefcakes. How will KSY choose? On the right is hunk 1, on the left is hunk 2. I would say, gimme both, please!

AHH!! I love them!! I've been wondering when Park Shi-hoo would come back in a drama...but just wish he wouldn't play the EAXCT SAME ROLE lol he played the same type of role for like 3 dramas already >.< Other than that i still adore that man haha (especially in Family Honor...good drama hehe) ^.^

And i think Han Jung-soo is great in Chuno. I'm in love with him and Kim Ji Suk (who i find adorable and incredibly hot at same time haha). I'm just worried about one thing...will Han Jung-soo even fit into a suit with those massive arms of his? I think i prefer him without it lol

hmm i actually wouldn't mind having Park Shi-hoo in some slave hunter close either haha xD <3

Oh PSH, when will you branch out and do something different? Still, I'm glad to see him again.. I thought he was darling in How To Meet a Perfect Neighbour, and I keep meaning to check out his other dramas.

Shame I'm not really interested in the premise. Ah well, I might check it out anyway.

Currently watching both Park Shi-hoo (Family Honor) and Han Jung-soo (Chuno). Love PSH for playing a complex role so convincingly, plus he looks utterly droolsome clothed (the suits!) or unclothed (the shower!). Am really looking forward to his new drama.

I'm enjoying Family Honor very much (oh, who am I kidding? "addicted to" is a truer description, keke) and will write a review when I'm done. PSH-YJH may even edge out the Assorted Gems lead couple as my favorite couple of 2009. Theirs is some romance, isn't it?

AG is much more lighthearted than FH, but if you prefer depth, then FH stands out because of its traditional setting and the unlikely couplings. I love how PSH's character has been written; it's so multifaceted and really allows him to stretch his acting. In contrast, HJS's character in Chuno hasn't changed at all in 12 episodes. I like him as an actor, but in Chuno he's pure eye candy, that's about it.

@ 23 Angelina , so mata hari means a sun in malay. I never knew it was such a common word.

Actually to me Mata Hari... sounds very Indian, which actually mean some sort of a goddess. 'Mata' symbolizes motherhood or female sex in general in a very divine way.

I am really curious what does Prosecutor Mata Hari means in Korean.

@ 27 thundie
I absolutely loooved Family's Honor! *strokes boxset* My love for PSH made me throw aside all uni work and procrastinate shamelessly, and I proudly consider marathoning that drama in a week my greatest achievement of the holiday :P

I think what PSH did best, above anything else in that drama, was expressing pure, raw emotion. Those scenes when he's crying because he's absolutely torn between his love for Dan Ah and doing his duty by his dad? My heart broke with him, it brokeee.

"in Chuno he’s pure eye candy, that’s about it."

And you say that like there's something wrong with that......
snicker.....hehehe - which is about the only laugh I've had from Chuno in the last few days (she says weeping in her breakfast coffee)

Ok, seriously, let's face it, JH is carrying Chuno completely. HJS's General Choi, the dear fellow, is doing a darned nice supporting role. Including the completely necessary shower scene.

@ PSH and Family Honour

It's great to see the PSH and FH discussions here. PSH has a face prettier than a girl which makes his turn as a weak chaebol's son quite believable in How to meet a perfect neighbour. It was therefore a surprise to see him play a cold-hearted noveau riche in Family Honour. I wouldn't say his performance in FH top notch but enough to make you care about his internal conflict between his love and father. I do love the love story between PSH and YJH in FH

@ PSH and Family Honour

It’s great to see the PSH and FH discussions here. PSH has a face prettier than a girl which makes his turn as a weak chaebol’s son quite believable in How to meet a perfect neighbour. It was therefore a surprise to see him play a cold-hearted noveau riche in Family Honour. I wouldn’t say his performance in FH top notch but enough to make you care about his internal conflict and dilemma between the woman he loves and the loyalty to his father.

FH was more or less my first family drama. (Well BSGS was the first but I watched that one for KJH and skipped the first 20 episodes and hence, missed out the gorgeous Kim Nam Gil but that's another story.) It was daunting to start - 50 episodes after all - but I finished it in 3 or 4 days. What made me love that drama is firstly the love story between PSH and Yoon Jung Hee. Their romance is quite different from other love story fares although still within the confines of a love contract :) It is my first YJH drama, and she has a warm elegance that you don't normally see in other Korean actress. (Choi Ji Woo is cold elegant on the other hand.)

The relationship among the four generation family members of YJH family is another major drawcard of this fine drama. The storyline of each family member is palpable: there are the perceptive grandpa doing all he can to salvage the honour of the family, the dad who is courageous enough to re-marry a modern day career woman, bearing a baby in their 50s (not to mention her turn as the best stepmom in Kdrama's history), the two sons each having their own marital problems (I love in particular the second son played by Fantasy Couple's Kim Sun Min), the blacksheep auntie who drowned herself in alcohol endlessly , the loyal family maid (played by our favorite grandma Kim Young Ok).

Family Honour and Assorted Gems are quite different in that FH is more dramatic or melodramatic, whereas AG is closer to real life depicting the day-to-day ups and downs of its characters. I guess I love AG more than FH. For my love of AG (and Lee Tae Gon) and Family Honour (and YHJ), I watched Dear Heaven as well. Of the three couples in those three dramas, I like the LTG and YHJ pairing the best although DH is a lesser drama than the other two.

And out of these family drama watching, I discover a whole raft of family drama actors that we don't normally see in trendies. And don't get me starting talking Han Hye Sook: love, love her acting in AG and DH.

Yes, addicting is the term; I used it at FH soompi too. So glad you'll be writing a review... hehe after watching the 50+ episodes and if you don't prattle it..., that would be a waste of your time & talent ^ ^ can''t wait!

#34 epyc, wow thanks for your sharing and differentiate the above 3 dramas. FH was the first family drama I ever watched... usually long dramas turn me off but not FH. In fact it has ignited me to consider watching more family dramas, aiyaya hope I don't follow in Hjkomo's foot-step ^ ^ I was so tempted to watch DH too because of YJH & LTG (only knew them through FH & AG) but it's around 80 episodes so not sure if I'll have the force to watch it yet ;p Only watched the later part of AG and hopefully to find time to watch the whole drama. (oh btw, did anybody think Lee Tae Gon resembles Ji Jin Hee?)

Aigoo..., can't stop gazing at PSH picture above... so alluring :P

oh thundie has a new blog header & here's a foretaste of what she prattled about PSH :P

"Park Shi-hoo as Lee Kang-suk, a rich and ruthless man who supposedly is incapable of loving anyone except his parents and sister.

But then he smiles... and an overcast day becomes sunnier, and a woman who has been in mourning the last ten years begins to experience glimmers of a new happiness, in a world she had long thought dead."

" I wouldn’t say his performance in FH top notch but enough to make you care about his internal conflict between his love and father. I do love the love story between PSH and YJH in FH"

I totally agree with this. I thought FH was far from perfect, with mediocre acting from the leads and draggy in places but despite what I just wrote I really really enjoyed FH nonetheless due to the strong chemistry, interesting storyline and the acting was convincing enough to make the viewers care.

frankly speaking, i really think that PSH and YJH would make da best onscreen couple ever!!! i've watched korean drama since 2002, and i doubt anybody could surpass their chemistry... well, of course it such a great thing if they could go for a real couple.. but, i don't think it will happen... back to the prosecutor princess... emmm... ?? average maybe...? it seems like other modern dramas, i still cannot feel the sense of attraction to watch it,, i'm not being immature,, but seems PSH's character is quite same as how to meet a perfect neighbour...

Han Jung-soo, is ugly. He isn't really attractive to me. In Chuno he was, but not
in Prosecutor Princess. I hope things turn out good for Park Shi-Hoo! :)
