So much has changed with PK from any of the other versions. Christine not being a foreigner(white) is at the edges of things I would say are different. They merged two main plot characters since they had less time to work with. They also changed lots of the motivations of the characters. Which is why I am taking it as an entirely different show that uses the outline of (in my opinion) a better concept and executed production.
As a stand alone piece it is inoffensive and lightly fluffy. After seeing what was done to Itazura na Kiss. I had to let go my hopes for a deeply motivating life altering love and go with "How I met your mother."

Geez this year has been a busy one in drama land so far I have watched:
Oh My lady!- hot siwon (dimples!!)! Cute ahjumma Chae Rim! It wasn't the best drama but it won my heart, there were many cute moments <3
Loving You a Thousand Times- Jung Gyu Woon hot husband!! He made me cry^^ Which is why I don't understand when people say he can't act to save his life... I started watching this drama because Kim Hee Chul was in it (I know, I know shameless ELF) but I started watching only JGW's scenes and his, everything else I skipped if possible. I hated the ending
Birth of a Rich Man- Lee Si Young!! loved her character Tae Hee... hated everyone else... I couldn't relate to any of them... hated Bo Young's character very badly... It's the first time that I don't watch a drama for it's main characters and instead only care about the supporting cast.... i even loved Tae Hee's lying cheating daddy^^
Ob/Gyn - Loved Joong Ki^^ also Dr. Seo but I felt that sometimes the episodes didn't run smoothly so I was lost as to what was the overarching story...
Chuno- Jang Hyuk!!! dear lord I spent so many sinful hours lusting for his body... it was hard not to with that handsome body of his all ruggedly manly being flaunted everywhere... hahahaha
Stars Falling from the Sky- oh my dear Kim Ji hoon he's pretty awesome as a sarcastically witty guy... he made a terribly cliche character heartwarming^^
Personal Taste- Lee min ho was upgraded as an actor in my eyes with this drama...
Pasta- the song was my favourite part!! J/k though I did love it since it's SJ Kyuhyun; but my favourite was "Mr. Voice" definitely loved how teasing and mean he could be when he was in the kitchen... lol
Cinderella Sister: it was too angsty for me.. I dropped out at the 6th episode... I only watched clips with the song sung by SJ Yesung!
Coffee House! - KJH was too awesome as the quirky writer and I loved Park Si Yeon as the confident yet low-key kind of professional woman.. ~
My Personal Favourite: My Girlfriend is a Gumiho!! not only did I find Seung gi cute and adorable and a great boyfriend once he admitted that he liked Mi Ho I fell in girl love with Miho!Shin Mina is too adorable!
Am Watching:
Dr. Champ - i'm liking it so far
Playful Kiss - I am watching it to relax and with no great expectations for it.. it's a calm drama (oxymoron isn't it?)
I will eventually watch:
a) SKKS
b) Dandelion Family (because I like Lee Yoon Ji and feel she's underrated)
c)Bad Guy
d) Call of the Country
e)Jejungwan
f) The Great Merchant
g) The Reputable Family
h) Baker King Kim Tae Gu
I am Definitely Watching
-Athena!! (Siwon!!)
-Mary Stayed Out all night (JGS!!)
and I am looking forward to Taiwanese drama:
-Extravagant Challenge/Glamorous Challenge (skip beat manga based drama with SJ Choi Si Won!! and SJ Lee Dong Hae!! and of course Taiwan's princess Ariel Lin)

@ Viola - have you seen JB and GF?! Btw, your happy-bubble story was so relatable. Sometimes the just dig through the blips to the I'm-so-happy-nothing-else-matters mood is a hard reach.
As for films, has anyone seen 'My Mom'? I saw it last night (Dramacrazy - eng subs) and boy am I glad I always keep tissues next to me. Although the story was not original, the incredible acting lent it an extra layer of emotional depth. Kim Hae-sook, as the mom, plays a compelling character from beginning to end and Park Jin Hee, as the daughter, is on form yet again. With some scenes it almost felt like they're a real-life mother and daughter. Way to go Korea, we should have a Mother's Day themed film here in England!

Does watching a TV drama featuring a homosexual relationship cause men to become gay?
The Ministry of Justice and some parents apparently think so."

Oh man! Being gay is not "infectious," however I can understand the fear from parents stigmatizing TV brainwashing certain individuals to stir curiosity and experiment their sexual prowess range. If an individual is certainly curious about that way of life then there is no way in hell you are able to stop him/her.
Utterly boring people are more eager to try anything new endangering consequences. I simply hope these people will practice safe sex for their own wellness, just as the rest of us heteros need to do more often to reduce over population.

PICTURES
And the story continues...
Even after living in NYC for 14 years I managed to get lost on the way to the Javit Center... and who should I ask for direction? A tourist. Who arrived in NYC only yesterday. I should have just followed the ninja fox (?) with the artillery gun. Excuse me, while I go bang my head.
I walked about 7 avenues, which doesn't sound like much, but they are very LONG avenues, I think about a mile and half. I got in with only 15 minutes left to redeem my ticket. If I got in only a little bit later, I would have had to resort to bribing some kids for their passes like nycgirl and hkjmo did.
But it was all worth it! I got to meet JB and Gf! I had to hold in the Inner fan girl, but I think she slipped the leash on occasion!
The composition of the panel was very funny, two guys squished into one corner then a long row of five girls. When JB, GF, and the other women talked about dramas, Jamier (with a French accent) said he felt kinda emasculated. rofl!. He could not stop talking about the abs of the Korean celebrities - Rain's abs in particular. :)
At one point, He asked something along the line of why are K dramas were so popular. There was a brief silence.. how can you describe color to the blind?
GF tied though, she said: "Because it is crack!" tee hee.
After the panel was over, there was a paparazzi mob of flashing cameras, JB and GF were very surprised. I think they were absolutely amazed though, when we asked them for autographs.
I guess they had no idea what a special place they hold in our heart. Both JB and GF were both very sweet and approachable and funny and intelligent and...excuse me for a bit ..*bad fangirl! stop slipping your leash* Oh, where was I..yeah they signed many autographs and took many pictures, because they are awesome like that!
So this is the spoil of my hard fought victory against the universe :

Hello to the proprietors Javabeans and Girlfriday!
Hello dear Open Thread community! Hello Viola!
I am a longtime lurker and I am really glad to hear updates about the appearances of JB and GF at comic con ny. I am really grateful to all of the fans who've told us their impressions of hanging out with these awesome women!
I had a question Viola! =) Am I mistaken or are the pictures of JB and GF no longer uploaded on your flickr? I see that only the autographs are now available. I'm thinking that they were taken down at their request? I'd greatly appreciate you clearing up this matter.
I can totally respect that those pictures are not available anymore. I am meerly curious to see if in fact I missed my window of opportunity to get a peek at the wonderful girls!
Thank you!
PS In addition to the EXCELLENT coverage of all things kdrama by our mistresses JB and GF (thank you!), I really enjoy the commentary offered by you - viola - and all the active participants in the community! I find that it's just reassuring and exciting to know that other people are vocal in their fangirlism and deep seated addiction for kdramas! I know I'm not alone in obsessing over SKK 24/7 because all you lot seem insane for it too!
Been loving this site since 07. WE LOVE YOU JAVABEANS AND GIRLFRIDAY!

While I agree with your sentiment, and this issue has become quite a hot topic I want to remind anyone studying or in design to not point fingers just yet. There's obviously "too many cooks in the kitchen" at Gap and for them to spin the story as a gimmick to raise awareness and then to crowdsource for cheap or free new branding is quite disgusting.
...Also their clothes are getting cheaper and tackier and never seem to fit me right anyways. I want to burn off the gift card I have in my wallet as soon as possible now. Maybe socks are in order. Socks, I say! Socks for everyone!

Congrats on getting to experience the panel and meeting the rock stars of the drama world (if JB and GF started the Comeback Cyndi Lauper Band I'd totally be their # fan).
All nycgrl got for us was a picture of a hairy Boba Fett, which I responded that I didn't realize JB was so hairy and large.
You rock, girl! Getting in and all. The buying off little kids for their passes was clearly 110% the doing of nycgrl, but desperate times call for desperate measures, right?

Hello Supah, are you there? Sorry I disappeared two OTs ago and didn't reply to your post. Sister flew in for a two-week vacation/visit and we were galivanting around shopping centers, bushwalking and basking in a resort. The two dramas you are looking for - First Love and Special of My Life - are available at aja-aja and AM-A. First Love... do you mean the 1996 version by Choi Soo-jung, Bae Yoon-joon and Choi Ji-woo, or the 2003 version by Jo Hyun Jae, et.al.? I've watched the 1996 version of First Love.

I'm going to answer for viola here. When this was in the making, db said that we could now get photographic evidence to dispel the Clark Kent/Superman rumors. Also, both gf and jb were informed via e-mail that there was a planned paparazzi attack for those of us who couldn't be there. They knew that their faces were going to be posted by one of us, but, to quote gf, "JB and I aren't about to put pictures of our own damn selves online (gah, the horror!)."
I don't think that this is something that they are completely fond of, but they knew it was going to happen. We were given indirect permission, which of course was taken advantage of.
I think it's great that you were concerned about this, though!

We'll have to retire bowties from Giant on his departure (and really, when is someone finally gonna get whacked for real with all the pouring cement shoes and then divine saving at last minute this show does. Gonna kill yah! Oh, spared you again! Psh!)
**This Week in Mi-joo Land**
Ok, ok. Mi-joos sound and look seems a little too progressive for the times in my ignorance of Korean 80s music. Am I right or wrong with this? I really have no idea. Did I miss a scene with SM, because how did he go from turning her off in the car to showing up at the entertainment studio just waltzing around like a creeper. Whatever, SM can do whatever he want. Except his one superhero flaw:
He has no tempo. DUNDUNDUN Man clapping and listening is so hardddddd
Song of the week!: SM & KM at the bar: Every time You Go Away, a cover by Paul Young in 1985. I do this because I'm waiting for a chance to point out some time line inaccuracy. I don't know much about fashion (lace frilly socks with heels, that's pretty 80s) so I'm trying with music and other historical facts. You win again this time show...

OK, present for you:

S'more instrumentals. The second one entitled 'History', is the metal Giant theme, as heard in the roll-up-sleeves, epic-scale, black comedy sequence. Oh yeaahz!

[SPOILERS]
Aaand... Seong-mo.... :(
My heart's too weak for the man's tears. Even happy tears.
Yeah, you did miss a few scenes, he'd been hot on her trail for a bit. And come on, this is SM we're on about, at this point in time he knows everything. EVERYTHING. (Apart from RabiesDawg's proper background, maybe.)
Plus janna, a man 'living in the depths of hell' knoweth not the frivolities of... knowing how to clap in tune.
But someone did get whacked, albeit by natural causes (booo!), but seriously man, one fatality is enough per 10 episodes, please.
Yay, Uncle Frogface! There's just no escaping jerks janna, Giant IS jerksville. Here a jerk, there a jerk, everywhere a jerk-jerk.

a man ‘living in the depths of hell’ knoweth not the frivolities of… knowing how to clap in tune omg I died. (but then I came back.)
Well technically JS whacked someone by accident so... that's something.
Jerks! Jerks everywhere! But sometimes techno singing! (Min-woo doing the robot. Yeah try to un-think that possibility. Ok, it would never happen. But I just made you think about it.)

Mi-joo: If I turn around no one can see me! I just can't bend down because my skirt is too short....

Thank you so much for the link. I'm flabbergasted to say the least as to how all of this blew up. The police, court interdicts, arrests, someone's reputation so badly questioned. Even a K drama script writer could have dreamt all of this up. And the really sad thing is that, his academic achievements is something he should be so proud of and for it to be so badly tarnished .... just really sad.

K, on the subject of Giant...
Does the writer hate women? So far not one woman has been the least bit functional once they pass the age of 10. The men have their faults too, but a good number of just passing by male characters are good and nice. Haven't seen a female yet be any of those things. Every mother is crazy, evil and/or sick. Every daughter/love interest is money grubbing and scheming. I understand about giving the audience the full image of how things were and how things grew from nothing, but do we have to have every female character be a person you wouldn't want to meet. Hopefully one of them in the future turns out ok. So far it is disappointing to say the least about that one aspect, but I still enjoy the show.

Example: the father in I think episode 3 and/or 4. While the wife calls child services and tries to get the kids sent to an orphanage cause she doesn't want extra mouths to feed. The father is willing to help in any way he can.
The american military general that sees the older brother hurt at the side of the tracks, could have ditched him in a hospital somewhere, but became a type of ward to him.
All the men that see Gangmo's hard work also treat him with respect if nothing else and most give him a job, while women look down on him or try to hump him.
That is another thing I have noticed... good people don't last in this show long.

I just think with all the business stuff there isn't much opportunity for strong women characters. But I don't really feel Mi-joo is a weak willed or wasted character. Even though Kang-Mo has worked hard he is no saint himself either.

To be fair, it's been a while but at a point even I was like, why are all the women either lounge singers, gisaeng or mere headcount? But then things began balancing out and that notion kind of vanished into thin air.
Mrs Hong gave me a ray of hope back then since I know she's played by a veteran actress from the same fold as say Lee Mi-sook. And then there's the mesmerising Kyeong-ok, Jung-yeon's character growth (though I do wish PJH had a bit more screen presence to match character requirements) and Mi-joo who just steals the show in her every scene.
And then there's Baek-pa's legacy. Look out for this powerful old man, played so wonderfully by old-timer Im Hyuk. 41 and 42 were pretty pivotal episodes for 'strong females' thanks to him (yeah, see the irony). I've mentioned this before but he's part of Giant's hat-tip service to Sandglass. He's an exact replica of a Sandglass character -- the house, the clothes, everything... except, the values. The Sandglass counterpart was staunchly against women in the workplace, whereas Baek-pa -- is in favour of women in the workplace. Eeep. The Sandglass dood would turn in his grave.

When I wrote this it was at about episode 10. Now I am at episode 16(going slow since I had 12hrs at the job) and It still looks bleak for the females. Mi-joo reminds me of the lead in Fruits Basket(Tohru). A character I loved to pieces, but it hurts to see her in this environment.
I never said any of the male leads or secondaries are saints or goodies. In fact that is what I like about this show, they are all flawed in some way. And their circumstances help them to be a messed up group of money, power hungry jackals. All ready to feast on each other as soon as look at you. Bribery, extortion, murder they all are guilty or conspiring with the guilty no matter their motivation or their lack of knowledge of the greater picture that surrounds them.
I still stand by my statement though that the random kind and noble male characters show up. The teacher for Kang-mo was another example. I still haven't seen a nice normal female. Not even for one episode.

Aaah dude, I hear you.

Which episode are you upto right now?
After episode 2, Kyeong-ok is true wuv, and Mi-joo is quite lovable, too.
And I have a soft spot for Nam-sook, her priorities are in check no matter what the world dubs her.
ADORED Nam Ji-hyun to pieces in her earlier spirited performance of teen Jung-yeon but then Park Jin-hee came along, and while she's not too bad (infact on rare occasions she's so good she gives me goosebumps) it frustrates me as how I still can't read her.

Thank you for your kind comments bluepenguin! I am glad that you find my vocal fangirling over SK and in general reassuring (?) You might be the only one of your kind....... :)
Just to make things clear, neither JB nor GF has asked me to take down their pictures, it’s flickr that is messing with me. I tinkered with the settings a little but the link was still valid earlier. But now , whether I click the link or log on to my flickr account, I see a “picture currently unavailable sign” for some of the pics. Maybe its fate? :)
Before I reupload the pics though, I want to make sure that JB and GF are okay with it. As Brookeve pointed out, I did get indirect permission.
As in when I asked JB if I can take her picture, she offered to take it with me, and when I replied that the others would be more interested in seeing her than me, she laughed and pointed out if we took a picture together I could show them and have major neener neener points. :p
So, we could assume that she knew her pictures were going to be transmitted over the internet in some form or other. :)
But Cingdoc and Cpw raised a valid point, I should have asked their direct permission first. I have emailed JB and if she says it’s okay I will reupload them. I am sorry for the confusion, I hope you understand. *love* :)

*from last OT*
@Supah: What drinks do I drink during the fall? Hmm. I kind of won't drink iced coffee anymore (that ends synonymously with leaves falling or something). I've heard some people drink warm bubble tea? Which I'm not used to either so that's weird.
I used to drink coffee daily from Wawa until they decided it was more economical to have giant plastic coffee drink dispensers than fresh glass coffee pots. They want more time to prepare greasy breakfast sandwiches I guess. I won't buy Starbucks because ...you could just buy the same coffee at Burger King.
I do like tea though, and I have a what could be considered an really.. large.. collection of black teas. But it's totally October so that means I'm drinking gallons upon gallons of apple cider. I even have some cinnamon stirrers. Classy all the way!
What do the rest of you OTers drink during the fall? Any recommendations?

*tears in eyes* Someone who agrees with me that diet soda isn't worth it? Ridiculous!
The other day I read about the Japanese Pepsi flavor for fall is *drumroll* Mont Blanc. Chestnut.. Pepsi. Hmmm.... I drink Coke more than Pepsi (sorry) But Pepsi Throwback > All other Pepsi because it used real sugar~
The worst soda I have ever tried was Jones Soda Turkey Gravy flavor. Or Jones Soda Green bean flavor, I think? Buying the Jones Soda Thanksgiving Holiday pack is just not a good idea. But my sisters agreed to trying "some" (like 1 flavor) and we drank shot glasses of the stuff (them by the sink, me promising I was going to take it down and not throw up) it was like.. not a pleasant experience in soda. I should have precluded this with "I have a problem buying limited edition flavored products".

2.) This show has officially shot into my top 5 and by the end of it I may have a new favorite show. How appropriate that "What's up Fox", my current favorite, is the banner on this site right now.
3.) And how many times do I have to say I love this show. I am also reminded of one of the recaps. "Clapping like a fat kid that saw cake" That was sooooo me for the last hour. Delicious fantastic cake with fruit and cream!

Hello lovelies! Nice to meet you Diadda and Brookeeve!
This week's episodes are just frakkin jam packed with all sorts of AMAZING.
Yong Ha, you are so my favorite character. The writers have been masterful with his character. The backstory that we're getting of YH is really rewarding and complex. I love it! That was a confession right there when JS was leaving for the night. Even my mother was like, "Oh wow! It makes perfect sense!" And she was so happy and heartbroken for him, as was I.
And! JS - he knows his friend YH. He's pretty damn awesome for keeping his best friend beside him all this time, being accepting and open-minded where others would've dropped that friendship in a heartbeat. Over 10 years!
Masterful storytelling I tell ya. Fluff does NOT have to be dumb, and SKK should be viewed as an wonderful example of heartwarming, poignant and intelligent writing in writing workshops. And the best thing is, I don't feel manipulated by the writing. All the characters are behaving as real people, and even better, they're evolving!
Oh and the ANGST is right around the corner! =) How is it that the episodes consistently improve from week to week? *contented sigh*

Hi back! bluepenguin,
I read some of the novel too and yeah we are in for some serious angst coming up. I also totally agree that a fun show with young good looking people does not have to be mindless fodder for the masses. This writing and acting is taking me by surprise. I was originally not even looking forward to this and so far it is the best thing I have seen this year.
Opinions for things that could have been in the running for best of the kdrama year:
Giant is epic and grand with great acting but gets a bit to dramatic and contrived at times with the character setups.(example Mijoo working for Hong as a maid, and the mom working in the bar with the power) Not saying that they don't help the plot along having major characters where they are, only that it is too convenient and could have been better achieved doing something else.
Personal Taste had tone issues. and a few misfired episodes.
MGiAG was fun but once again the Hong Sisters are weakest at their endings of fantastic dramas.
Secret Investigation Record doesn't have any faults I can think of. I watch it. I like it a lot, but I don't NEED it. It is missing that weird pull that makes it unavoidable in my daily life.
OB/GYN had main characters that were less likable but realistic and interesting. And the best secondary male I have seen in a long while.
The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry was fun and light but also had some sparkless episodes, mainly toward the end and I wasn't satisfied by the ending either.
everything else I saw was filler, forgettable and used for language padding. SkkS is solidly different. It may falter or have issues in the future, but I know I have 14 episodes of magic in the can and I am so not letting it go.
wow, that was divergent.

I'm sorry bluepenguin (and I love your name, really!) that I didn't get to saying hello back right away. I'm going to blame my ADD... and the fact that I've been marathoning The Snow Queen for Fall Break.
I totally agree with all of your conclusions about SKK... except you can have Yummy and I'll join the Moony boat, okay? Yummy is completely delightful, but he just doesn't have what my friends deem "The Naked," which I think should be pretty self-explanatory.

Hi Bluepenguin!
I just got caught up with ep 12 of SS and omo! How awesome is this show?! I think I just have to reiterate my Yummy love. I think I was a puddle on the floor when he admitted to having certain feelings about Moony to Sun-Joon. *happy fangirl*
I ff through ep 13 just to get to the Mony-Yummy part and even though I didn't understand what they said I was devastated and heartbroken.... so sad. Those tears from Yummy.... I die when he cries *sniff*

Giant 43 [SPOILERS!!]
Ouuuuch! I can't get the sound of those bones crunching outta my head... Too much violence in this episode, marreya.
Aah wells, atleast Soo-jin-ehh brings out Jung-yeon's snarktastic, catty side, it's really quite funny, erm, most of the time anyway *whistle*. And hey, whenever I quip about PJH, she goes and cranks it up in the following episode.
The previews show moar violence, I'm talking callbacks to Yeo Jin-gu and the street brawls of Myeongdong epic scales of violence.

In other news:
Special of my Life: most redundant-ass title ever, but show itself? C'est Fantastique!
Watched the first 3 episodes of a total of 8 last night and spent the day at the office trying not to burst out laughing hysterically at some of the sequences and dialogue.
I'm in considering shoehorning it into my Top 10 of all time somewhere, it's pure joy, every rom-com-nazi's joy!
Such an awesome, heavyweight cast but Sung Ji-roo PWNs it, what can I say about this guy? He's one of those rare, exceptional kind of actors where he can make you laugh so hard and then make you weep just as hard within seconds of the other.
@rambutan -- I will do a more complete review of this once I finish it. But in a nutshell: awesome, you must watch this.
On a more sombre note, FINA-EFF-INGLY got my WISFC box-set after almost a year of fancying it. Yay! Btw, a tad random but I would love to see JY and MJ meet again like they did in episode 2. I think a girlie reunion is in order.
Also, I like the current story arc and how it covers three major plot points which have needed addressing for a while. Two are fairly obvious, the third is that CPY really should've learned his lesson by now. No more deploying the mob. It cost him dearly last time with the Malcheok mob. (Or was that Seong-mo? Haha!)
Also, Cho Min-woo means: *drumroll* Beautiful Clever-Friend. Haha... Clever-Friend, I love it, they could've just been more blatant and stamped Dumb-Enemy on his forehead.

Giant is such a tease isn't it, but I can't say this week's episode didn't just light a fire under everyone's asses.
If GM wants to go on pretending he isn't still madly loving Jeon Yeon, then oops, your cover got blown, dude.
And Seung Mo is totally going to go hypocrite on his siblings - he'll give MW-MJ a pass cuz there's a baby involved and he secretly has a bromance going on with MW. But he's going to be no-way-in-hell with respect to GM-JY.
SM needs to get a girlfriend, otherwise he's just pouring cold water on everyone else's hot eye-sexing.
I must be totally a sadist but GM going all bodyguard to the rescue and getting beat up for JY totally made my month. It's been forever and a day since I've seen GM in action. He needs to work that leather jacket back into his rotating roster of suits.
MW also needs to stop making the "I'm in pain and constipated face" with it comes to thinking about MJ. I would love to deliver the news to all participants that they should be expecting to do all weekend and holiday dinners together in the future, Daddy Satan not included, of course.

I have to say, I'm liking Giant way more than I thought I would, I'm hanging in there on episode 24 now (I know, I know, a long way to go to catch up), but I'm hoping by the end of this month I'll be waiting on eps.
In the meantime, is anyone else a tad frustrated with the pacing?? Sometimes it is so delicious (episode 21 comes to mind), and then sometimes so sporadic I want to throw my shoe through the plasma!!
Truthfully, this is only my fourth or fifth (counting in my head) series that has been longer than 22/24 episodes, so perhaps the pacing problems are really just more realistic for longer series?
Trying not to be too spoilery, but really, am enjoying this much more than I thought I would (and if this SHOW goes EoE on me I will never watch another long drama again!!!)...

Those puppies are looong! 150-180 episodes. They are only 1/2 hour episodes so that helps. Some of the sagueks can be really long 100+ too.

The pace doesn't slow down, but the plot developments are more machinations and intrigue than physical confrontations and gangbusting scenes.
I think Giant is a great way to get introduced to the 50 or greater epics. The plot is not going to go into the crapper, which is what most long dramas (and even quite a few short dramas) have a tendency of doing.

Amen to the plot not going into the crapper. 44 episodes done and it's still going strong, add to that the fact that they already have the finale in the can (or so I read in some news snippet on Jung Bo Suk's aging makeup -- a very long time ago).
''GM going all bodyguard to the rescue and getting beat up for JY totally made my month.''
I just diiiied! That wasn't Lee Beom-soo but Yeo Jin-gu I was seeing, I burst into tears. LBS is one of the finest actors of our time and he was born to play Lee Gang-mo. Just look at the way he's recaptured the Gang-mo spirit? Beautiful. *tear*
Park Sang-min is doing an equally phenomenal job, though we know Lee Beom-soo owns the show. But can't forget how anything and everything is written to tie in v. strategically with Seong-mo. I worry for him. Even in the cliffhanger, I was on the edge of my seat, for him, and what it would mean for MW to see him there.
And he's doing well by remaining firm with Hwang Tae-sub. This guy? He sucks! Never forgive him!
I am irked at SBS censoring the weapons though, weapons are pretty important in Giant. Hope it was just a one-off.

I'll tell you what I'll do, have you watch it and then I'll screencap and write the scene descriptions, bits of dialogue etc in there, kind of like a full but not too extensive eight-episode recap? But if you can't commit to unsubbed that's fine with me. But SOML is just so, so golden, so ME, I'm in love with it.
And it's written by Song Ji-na's (Sandglass, Eyes of Dawn, Love Stories) two times co-writer, for Kaist and (wait for it...) Legend. Aaaargh! (Maybe it was the directing, and the cast, y'know?)
Can these two fantastic, wonderful, mindblowing writers not be given a third chance to re-unite and write another drama, pleeease...?

Supah, I'll definitely watch SoML if you make the effort to "screencap and write the scene descriptions, bits of dialogue etc in there, kind of like a full but not too extensive eight-episode recap". I'm so impressed with Sandglass, Eyes of Dawn, Love Stories. All tell fantastic stories and have excellent execution. But no pressure, okay? Do it only if you love doing it and have the time!
Diadda, your opinion of OB/GYN's leads, especially second male lead, so hits the mark: "OB/GYN had main characters that were less likable but realistic and interesting. And the best secondary male I have seen in a long while." I've always sided with the main lead in my 6 years of watching drama and OB/GYN is only the second time I wished the second lead got the girl. If you want to catch more of Dr. Wang from OB/GYN, watch Gloria! Be forewarned that the cheeky Dr. Wang is very different from Kang Suk in Gloria!

Oh, it'll only be my pleasure!
SOML has a similar kind of quality but its genre is pure comedy: lots of slapstick, wittiness and black comedy, but all heart and when I say heart you can expect some nicely done heart-tugging moments. And all the actors are in their prime. But let's not talk about the actors just yet, I'm pretty much in love with all of them at this point, mentioning one will mean I'll have to mention them all. Hah!
Speaking of Eyes of Dawn, I'm a little frightened off by its 'comfort women' theme. Does this theme pop up excessively or graphically?

Yeah so mid-wrench beating I spilled a cup of tea all over my keyboard. OR You can take it that I'm just being held somewhere enjoying a fine virginia slim without internet access. Someone save me! Use those sharp pointy blurred out objects, too!
I enjoyed the latest in abduction filmmaking, the VHS tape. But little more than that was appealing to me. She punches rabies-dawg later? Why weren't you trying to kick a window through earlier? No?
Meanwhile, Mama K has time to both be sad but also check up on Mi-joo at work. Well, good for her. Mi-joo, the other half of the cliche coin (the one side, fights in landfills, hers the "slightly missed you! @ 90.1 Supah: Speaking of Eyes of Dawn, I’m a little frightened off by its ‘comfort women’ theme. Does this theme pop up excessively or graphically?
Eyes of Dawn is a beautiful story of three peoples' lives set against a historical backdrop. I'm no expert on Korean history, but I think the writers and producers did a good job depicting the years under Japanese occupation, WW2, then war between North and South. Hence, there are various themes reflecting the reality of the times - comfort women, Japanese experiments and chemical warfare, war in its ugliness as well as awesomeness (brotherhood of men/comrades). The comfort woman theme is not excessive (only the start of a 36-episode saga) and whatever is told is part of the story. And it is a beautiful story about a Korean soldier conscripted to fight under the Japanese flag falling in love with a comfort woman. EoD is one of those few dramas that made me think long and hard after it ended. How life is so fated. I'm one to believe that I can determine/control my life and destiny by the choices I make, but EoD says the opposite is also very true. Sometimes things just happen, and if you or they just happen to be there, then life inexorably takes off on that road. There is no such thing as "The Road Not Taken" because there is no such choice.
EoD is epic and cannot be missed! 'Dr. Zhivago' and 'Gone with the Wind' come to mind when I think of EoD in epic-ness and story telling. Okay, better rush off and watch Giant in its awesomeness and epicness!

Thanks hun!
Ok, now you've totally convinced me. Need to raid my friend's VHS stash again, he's had the series for a while, you can tell.
I'm an avid fan of epics, especially ones that are thought-provoking and emotionally engaging and this sounds like my kinda crack, helps that I'm all the way in love with the writer and a lot of that cast.
Giant is one of those series I'm not into convincing people to watch, it comes with a few prerequisites, without them it can lose a few people. But for me, hand on my heart, ever since the third episode I pegged this as my #1 drama of all time. Oh, of course there are better made dramas out there but this is quality, redefined. Though I never wanted to proclaim that out too loud and still don't feel comfortable doing so, because a lot of people didn't or don't like it. It's not the most accessible of dramas, though not the most complex either. It's the closest to Sandglass but done with all the warmth and humour of Bad Family (duh, same PD). The main prerequisite here is understanding that everything, yes everything, happens for a reason. Even small things which may seem insignificant will come back and bite you, there are thus zero to nil contrivances. It's like Gandalf when he said ''the ring was MEANT to come to you Frodo, and that is an encouraging thought''. Yes, little Lee Gang-mo was MEANT to be stealing bars of chocolate that day and overhearing the smugglers. The other prerquisites are having a general taste for this genre and understanding its sense of humour, not taking all things at face value, also having watched Sandglass and The General's Son movie helps a lot with regards to nifty little fanservice touches here and there, which if you understand them, You. Will. Squee.

Never meant to imply anyone not to add your own personal 3 cents to the mix. I was only curious after the riot that 12 started to see what would come of "the kiss to end all kisses". Those that hate vs those that love vs. those that lost their collective minds and now must write full length papers on the subject of a kiss, How it compares to all other kisses in the universe. Why their lips touched at the moment under that lighting with that music or lack there of.
I was merely curious and I got my answer already from the posts galore complete with overzealous fangirling/hatred. The comments for it are actually better than the show.

Honestly until this week I was happy with anyone ending up with anyone else. All possibilities were not only ok with me but I liked them. Now I want Jaeshin and Yong Ha together in the worst way possible. Even if it is just as "friends" them together makes me happy. I posted in a comment on one of the boards a spin off show with them righting the wrongs of society throught the country side would be fantastic. A sort of buddy travel log would make my world complete. This leaves the main couple Son Joon and Yoon Hee to be all angsty with each other.
Now if Jae Shin ends up with Yoon Hee in a few more awkward romantic type scenes before the end result I am not going to be upset in the slightest either.
So simply put:

93.1 supah: Sandglass moved me and made me think after it ended. Eyes of Dawn moved me and made me think longer after it ended. Sandglass is small scale epic; EoD is epic-epic. Can't help it, because EoD depicts Koreans under Jp occupation, WW2, Burma/India trek, liberation, political assassinations and war between north and south, communism vs democracy. Along the way, three people cross paths (a woman and the two men who love her), and a most beautiful and moving story unfolded.

@rambutan May I ask where you saw EoD? I've been trying to buy this drama for a while now. Its not available anywhere or sold out. It has been on my Must Watch List for a while now but access has been the problem.
Love sandglass as well.

After reading this comment I frantically rang the friend, he says the tapes are pretty battered and some of them are even missing. :(
I'm gonna order it soon, though someone on youtube has uploaded a handful of the earlier episodes, these should tide me over until my order gets here. Gwangju was the biggest event SG covered, and even that left me dumbstruck. I get battlefields and soldiers against soldiers, but seeing corpses astrew on bustling city streets had quite the impact on me. Civilians, man! Count of Myeongdong had some similar scenes set in the 50s but the Gwangju riots took place in the 80s, so still feels relatively rawer. But even if either took place 100s of years ago, still a calamity all the same. (And it's not like it's all in the past either. *cough* UStroopsinafghanistanandiraq *cough*).
I get that EoD is on a much, much bigger scale.
@nycgrl
I'm planning on buying it from here. It's region-all and subbed. http://www.asiandb.com/store/detail.php?num=5946
Btw, I remember you mentioning Dae Jo Young, that it makes your top 10 in sageuks. Thanks for that. I'm a little sageuk-shy, but I'd like to watch this at some point, it's encouraging to hear it mentioned.

Hey thanks for finding this. I looked everywhere but how do you know its subbed? The description doesn't seem to say anything.
I'm not the biggest Saeguk fan but I liked Dae Jo Young. I'm going to watch Conspiracy in the Courts this weekend and will re-evaluate my Saeguk list but I think SKKS may push something out too :-)

If you scroll down, it's barely even noticeable but under item details, it definitely says: 'subtitles: English, Korean'.
I'm gonna be a complete cheapskate and go for the free downloads for now, if it truly manages to blow me away, I'l be ordering that box-set in a jiffy. In fact it'll be nice to order a bunch of Song Ji-na's works, invaluable stuff.

Omona! Is there anything AMA doesn't have? Thanks a bunch! I thought it'd be too much to ask to expect you guys to have a 1991 drama too.
