Teaser and stills from KBS’s Wild Romance

Time for a closer look at upcoming KBS rom-com series Wild Romance, whose production has been leaking stills in a steady trickle over the past couple of weeks. The teaser’s out (watch below), as well as more information about the plot and the supporting cast, so here we go:

Lee Shi-young takes the lead role of aggressive heroine Yoo Eun-jae, who is assigned bodyguard duty to Park Mu-yeol (Lee Dong-wook), a cocky baseball player who’s the target of “the most dangerous type of anti-fan.” Hahaha. Okay, that cracks me up. (Not that scary anti-fans can’t be dangerous. Shudder.)

Mu-yeol has a hot temper of his own and is described as a troublemaker. Enough so that our description of their relationship is: “Eun-jae is made to guard the jerk she’d dearly love to beat to a pulp at the first opportunity.” As well as the fact that it’s the love story between “a dumb man and a dumber, more aggressive woman assigned to protect him.”

What’s not to like?

Okay, maybe the hairdos. And the douche-stache. (Though if it’s supposed to make Lee Dong-wook look skeezy — and that seems likely — then it’s working.)

Then there’s Lee Shi-young who has, sadly, turned her head into a Chia Pet for this role — but there is a part of me that likes that she went for a tough look to correspond to her brash character. Nana was a plucky sort and I loved her character, for instance, but I didn’t buy her physicality. Whereas, Lee Shi-young? She’s going to kick the hero’s ass five ways to Sunday, and with a manic gleam in her eye and a smile on her face. Don’t worry, it looks like the cocky bastard could use a rude awakening. This is gonna be fun.

Here’s the preview:

As for second leads: Oh Man-seok and Hwang Sun-hee are paired as a couple. Oh plays a warm-hearted pro baseball player, while Hwang will shed her psycho/cold-as-ice images from Sign and City Hunter to play his lovable wife. They’re the doting parents to a young son, and Oh is described as a model family man, who is also the hyung/sunbae who reaches out to his problem-child teammate, Mu-yeol.

Oh said, regarding working with the project’s screenwriter (Alone In Love’s Park Yeon-seon) and PD (Women in the Sun’s Bae Kyung-soo), “I am really looking forward to the writer and director’s delicate touch. It isn’t a grand, showy drama, but it’ll be one that has the power to move your heart.”

Then, pictured at bottom, we have musical actor Kang Dong-ho (also from weekend drama All That Glitters/Twinkle Twinkle) as a cool-headed publicity manager for baseball team Red Dreamers. His character is quick-thinking and analytical, and I’m guessing his coldness will lead to some clashes with our hot-headed hero.

Wild Romance airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning January 4.

This looks like so much fun, but the hair! Ah, well, at least Lee Shi-young has enough spunk to rock it.

Super excited!

I know. At first, I thought the hair looked hideous. But seeing the trailer...and closer inspection--her character looks more believable. Her hair makes her look like a young, cute boy. Haha.
I think I will watch this.

It's as if everyone, not just the two leads, signed up for ugly hair. What did they do to Hwang Sun Hee? What is that flat drape?

Ok I really really don't like her hair here. No matter what, they should have do something...different. Even if her charactere is though you can be tough but still be feminine. But Lee Dong-wook is sexier here than he was in Scent of a woman!

I'm still hesitant about this drama but I guess I'd give a try because of Oh Man-seok, I really appreciated him in Baek Dong-soo ^_^

Totally agree with your 1st paragraph especially Lee Dong-wook comment:)

Had to look Oh Man-seok up. So glad to see him in a drama again as just reminded of him recently.

Don't underestimate the power of the stache.

Sure, you think to yourself, he use to be hot when he was rich and clean, with the fancy clothes and moves and house and shower knobs.
But this guy? Kinda sleasy, kinda makes you queasy? He's not gonna get to me.
I'm better than this.
Ha!

Me too. I've never thought him as "HAWT" as everyone says he is. But it's like you slap some facial hair on the boy and now he's, like, this total looker. XD

I'm definitely digging the stache. I love men with facial hair!!!!

Is it bad that I think Lee Shi Young looks like a very, very, VERY pretty boy in those pics?

That's probably what they were goin for........, right?

One reason I love coming to Dramabeans; learning new vocabulary.

Sadly Burt Reynolds ruined mustaches as sexy for me.

LMAO! I'm right there with you. Burt Reynolds ruined mustaches and chest hair. Then again, Tom Selleck...

For the longest time, I thought Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck were the same man. Because of their mustache and the chest hair. And they made me run toward Teen Beat heart throbs like River Phoenix in a mad hurry.

Now that I think about it LSY would have been a great NANA, based on this still she seems like she could have pull it off nicely, PMY did a good job, but I wasn't totally conviced.

The premise sounds cute, funny and lightweight but I hope we get more that we are barguing for here, don't want this to be another Spy Myugoul EEEEP....

oh god, the possibility...esp since im not such a PMY fan.

inspite of the hair, LSY can definitely carry this drama. heck, i watched all eps of Poseidon cause she's there and she had good chemistry with SiWon. the writers really wasted such a good opportunity with their fail-writing!

Required fields are marked *

naah, don't think so. Nana has this sweet and vulnerable side in her, besides being tough. Watching LSY's acting in Poseidon, I don't think she can't portray those characters appropriately. She may look vulnerable, but more in comedic way ... maybe

This looks cute! I'm looking forward to it. As for her hair, it's funny, but I don't think it's too bad. It's better than the annoying sleek mushroom hairstyles I've been seeing lately, like in Can You Hear My Heart. Ew.

'Tis the return of the Gu Jun Pyo Hair!! And might I say, Lee Shi Young is working that fro like no tomorro'. I wasn't interested initially, but now that I hear we've got a half-bat-shit crazy female lead, I'm so onboard. May the crazy over-the-top hijinks commence!

ahhh the hair!!! Its killing me and bringing back bad memories simultaneously because I had that haircut during high school..ahem...I didn't really have a choice. I mean I was born with curly hair and cutting curly hair boy short is a no no but I didn't know that cause I was young and foolish. On the other hand, the actress playing this character has such nice natural hair so I don't understand why they opted to curl it!they could have cut it short but kept her natural hair texture! Just because a lady is tough doesnt mean she can't have good hair!

The hair is making me NOT wanna watch this show. I was so excited so see a show from the writer of Alone in Love AND starring LSY, but the hair will be sooo distracting. I'm on epiosde 11 of Can You Hear My Heart? and my hatred of that disgusting mushroom cut is has finally started to mellow. Still, I keep dreaming of a makeover.

I will admit her haircut in CYHMH was distracting at first but i kind of got use to it. but LSY's haircut in this drama i think is even worse! And its kind of turning me off to the drama but i have a soft spot for romantic comedies so ill check out the first episode or two.

OMG - how is it that the simple subtraction of hair (her beautiful long hair being shorn into that ajumma mop-gone-nuts) and Wookie's addition of 'stach (will he be spelling out "Cow" on his face?) can suck out all of the pretty here for two of my favorite actors?!

At least there's comfort in knowing she's fully capable of beating his ass on screen (in real life, too - Golden Gloves, anyone?) and he's capable of bringing the funny to a role.

This is going to take some getting used to.

I am totally with you on how the little changes can bring about much difference in the looks in both leads. I love LDW and his look in Scent of a woman. I am not too crazy about this 'stach thingy - it doesn't work with his features...
But I guess we are being shallow here. It's always the characters/plots/production quality that matter in the end.

& i miss lee dong wook's scent of a woman look ;c but he still looks good here! not really digging that stache though

the teaser looks fun, so i'll probably be checking out this drama if i can be able to tolerate lee shi young's hair -gag- oh well my lovely jessica wll be in here too so i'll be checking out this drama for her & dong wook xD

Have been checking LSY works and damn this girl does have comic chops (as many have been saying) Thing I like about her is that she's natural on screen and doesn't care much about her image. Love her in 'Hong gil dong's descendants' lol
About the hair, I'm getting used to it. Unlike some people, I won't let such thing keep me from having fun. Honestly I didn't notice the hair in the teaser, just LSY character really shines, her facial expressions are hilarious xD
And I'm glad there's no sound of potential love triangle, or maybe there'll be, but more like 'Alone in love'. I've been avoiding all popular rom-coms lately cause I can't stand another fans debate and 2nd lead syndrome.

I'm comparing this LDW stache to the one he was rocking in La Dolce Vita and it is a welcome improvement! But, I mean..I think he's hot either way, lol!

I also don't mind Lee Shi-Young's hair, lol. She's still adorable. Plus, it seems to look crazier in pictures than it does in action (like in the trailer),lol.
I'm excited for this anyway, it looks cute and hilarious.

Teaser looks super cute!!!! And, I've noticed that a lot of baseball players work the double stache look... at least in the movies and dramas. Is that a stereotype?
Tanned and with a moustache? lol.

LSY looks adorable. She's one of those people that can pull off anything and still looks smashing. :D

Looking forward to this. The teaser scene with her throwing her hands up and laughing was cute. Reminds me of a japanese manga I once read >_<

This is probably the 100th comment on the hair but I'm sorry, I really can't take the hair seriously.. for once I'm wishing for a makeover scene so that hair can be gone from let's say the beginning of the first episode lol Lee Shi Young is gorgeous but that hair style is just not attractive. As for Mr sexy Lee Dong Wook.. the moustache.. I just don't know because I have this image of him being all sexy minus moustache in Scent of a Woman.. I guess I will have to grow to like both cos I do plan on watching this. Can't wait to check this out! :D
