Yoon Kyun-sang up for SBS drama Doctors

Is Yoon Kyun-sang just going to take up permanent residence at SBS? All four of the dramas he’s been in including his debut have been at the network — Faith, Pinocchio, The Time I’ve Loved You, and the currently-airing Six Flying Dragons, where he’s kicking ass and taking names. Now he’s in talks to take on his fifth show at SBS, the medical drama Doctors that’s currently courting Pinocchio co-star Park Shin-hye to headline.

The new series is about a young woman who starts out as a gangster in her youth and works her way up an unfair social hierarchy at a hospital to become a neurosurgeon. Park Shin-hye is in talks to play the heroine, a bold character who’s obstinate and has to overcome her distrust of other people. She carries some scars that darkened her outgoing personality and turned her into someone who doesn’t want relationships of any kind.

Kim Rae-won (Punch) has been offered the leading role opposite her, a neurosurgery specialist with an affable, trustworthy image who’s a staunch realist. And Lee Sung-kyung (Cheese in the Trap) is up for the role of the heroine’s high school classmate and rival in the neurosurgery department. She’s from a wealthy doctor family and is hung up on getting her first love stolen from her.

Yoon Kyun-sang is considering the part of a chaebol heir neurosurgeon. The character is the eldest son of one of the country’s leading conglomerate families, but in order to free himself from his father’s expectations for him to take over the company, he becomes a doctor. Gee, a brain surgeon, what a huge disappointment to daddy dearest. He dreams of a carefree life and of a love like a roller coaster, and will fall for the peculiar gangster-turned-doctor heroine who enters his life like Fate.

Yoon Kyun-sang is in contract negotiations, so it seems likely that he’ll sign on. He and Park Shin-hye didn’t share many scenes in Pinochcio (he played Lee Jong-seok’s older brother), but they’d probably be really adorable together in a romance. Even if it ends up being one-sided. I think?

Doctors is scheduled to follow Jackpot on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning in June.

So he plays second lead/unhappy chaebol? Somehow I'm disappointed. After SFD I thought he would get some lead roles of not so rich, underdog heroes

Yeah, me too. On the other hand, this should put him in some nicely tailored suits as well as scrubs..so I'm torn...on a very superficial level. xD

(I started watching Pinocchio for Dalpo but was like, "dang! That brother looks good in a suit...")

If it goes by most k-drama plot points, the bad ass will last 1-2 episodes.

Maybe because we have seen pretty much this same plot about 8x. Any bets on how many incompetent doctors will be in this hospital?

*remembers the scene in Pinocchio where Gi Jae Myung corners and scares Choi In Ha*

It's role reversal now, gangster heroine will turn his life upside down.

My interest in this drama has increased ten-fold.

I hope Kim Rae Won stay far far away from this drama, so I don't have to watch it.

Sorry to say, but he probably will LOL. Reports have said that the writer/production crew really wants KRW for the project. However, apparently, he will only sign on if they make the changes he wants, which means giving his character more importance than originally planned.

The drama is/was supposed to be female centric, after all, it was originally named Female Gangster Hye Jung, until knetz started complaining about the iljin/bullying reference, and it was changed to Doctors.

Anyway, he'll probably get the changes he wants, the drama is being produced by HB Ent., his agency.

I just wonder how non-female centric the end result will be?

Owh.. well then.. I don't think KRW will be willing to play a second fiddle to Park Shin Hye anyway.

So, crossing my fingers the story will be at least half as good as Punch.

I am sure he can find a better one. He was so good in Punch!

Since dramabeans wrote about this, I kept on thinking shouldn't Kang Hye Jung take a role in here. After all her nickname is Kangster, right? :))

About the drama itself, me love some KRW and LSK <3
The main tho, I have half of my trust....

I'm really torn about the writer because High Society was so bad, but Can We Get Married was absolutely fantastic and one of the best-written kdramas I've ever seen.

Though this being an SBS Monday-Tuesday drama points to it likely being more in the vein of HS than CWGM. Boo.

My main reason why I don't want KRW here because this is female centric drama. If he won't get the changes he wants, he better stay away.

I'm happy to see Yoon Kyun-sang getting more work, and I actually think he and Park Shin-hye will vibe pretty well together, based on the scraps we got in Pinocchio. And hopefully he's done with military service so we don't lose him to the army just as he's taking off.

But why can no drama go without making either its hero or second lead a chaebol?!

Anyway I read that Yoon Kyun Sang is yet to do his military service. He is 87 liners, so he will be enlisted soon. Hopefully he get one more role which can make he shines before enlistment, so ppl won't forget about him during his absence.

I am backing up my statement with proof! It was in his interview for BNT

Q. I heard you were originally a model. What is the reason you went from a model to actor?

It’s embarrassing to say I was a model. It was a very short period. I did 3 collections so about a year and half before I went to the army. At that time, I wanted to do acting but I wasn’t prepared and the army was a big obstacle. Following my father’s advice, I enlisted into the army and after getting discharged, I started earnestly acting.

Here's the link for the full interview:

Moo-hyul has been one of my favorite characters from TWDR thanks to Jo Jin Woong. Yoon grew on me during SFD.

I did think the most exciting part of Pinocchio came in the middle with the brother story arc but when I finally got around to finishing the rest a few weeks later, it manages to fire up again...and there's a few visit bro in jail scenes.

I loved any of the scenes with the two brothers...almost embarassed to say how much I abused the rewind button during those.

Well, I am sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea for Kyung Sang to act alongside Park Shin Hye, unless he want's to take it easy.

He already made a name for himself, so if he doesn't want to waste his talent, he should pick a role that will be more challenging, or join a drama with stronger cast that will make him shine even stronger. Let's be honest here, Shin Hye's acting skills are, well... <__> Forced, unnatural, robotic.

Feel free to rick me.

Let's be honest here, no matter what your opinion is there are many young and seniors actors would love to act with her.

All actors have worked with her had nothing to say but praise.
And some of them also shined the best and made the name for themselves not only in Korea but internationally. To name a few JGS JYH and KWB so why wouldn't he want to act with her

Fans think they are expert and love to trash the actress but they don't even look at the record...

Required fields are marked *

She's not the best actress of her generation, but she is at the top in terms of popularity/relevancy and appeal to the Chinese market, which is, sorry to say, more important when it comes to the entertainment industry. I really don't understand why people think just because someone has more raw talent, they "deserve" to be more popular/relevant. No one deserves anything in life, especially in an industry as superficial as dramas/films.

"He already made a name for himself" - yeah, actually, not really. If he really did make a name for himself, he wouldn't still be relegated to second lead roles opposite more famous actors. This is no slight against him, because he was probably my favorite part of Pinocchio.

Bottomline, PSH brings in, by far, the most domestic relevancy, sponsorship deals, and interest from abroad with her dramas. Which is not something the other three cast in this project can say, except maybe KRW in terms of domestic appeal.

Pinocchio sold to China for 280,000 dollars per episode, higher than any kdrama thus far, a lot of that could be attributed to her.

Drama castings aren't about getting the most talented actors, it's about being strategic to amass the most amount of financial gain for the production company/channel.

Lol i don't know why most international fans are always targeting PSH and shitting on her, she's not even a bad actress in my eyes, in fact she's better than lot of the actresses that DB users love to praise, anyway PSH is not losing anything from the haters, she's still very much loved in Korea and Koreans think she's one of the best among the younger generations of actor and actresses, the amount of praise she receives from them is just outstanding, so much so that international fans who read translated comments in those kpop and kdrama websites always get jealous and pissed off whenever a PSH article pops up, they can't seem to handle the positive comments from knetz praising her to no end, as there is an unwritten rule among international fans to hate on anything or anyone korean netizens praise they proudly start hating PSH with passion. Anyway. PSH knows how much she's loved in her country so it's all good.

BABY MOOHYUL!

Before Six Flying Dragons, I like Yoon Kyunsang purely for his tall and good looking appearance. Sorry to say, but I found that his acting was terrible especially on The Time We're Not In Love.
I don't have any idea what the SFD production team did to him so he became so good and entertaining in SFD.
I really, really, really like Moohyul character to the point that I want to follow Yoon Kyunsang next projects after SFD come to an end. I wish that he will getting better and show us another good performance just like in SFD.

Yoon benefits from playing a beloved character that Jo Jin Woong established in Tree. For me I would love Moo-hyul no matter who was going to play him here but Yoon made an effort to mimic Jo Jin Woong's Moo-hyul so he quickly grew on me.

He is still young with opportunities in the future to prove himself. I'll be cheering for him for sure.
