DramaX’s new rom-com Single Wife has two husbands

Sung Hyuk, Uhm Hyun-kyung, Kwak Hee-sung

There’s a new rom-com being produced by DramaX, the same cable channel that aired the cute remake of 1% of Anything last year, and it’s called Single Wife. Starring are Uhm Hyun-kyung (Defendant) and Sung Hyuk (Jang Bo-ri Is Here), with filming set to begin next month in May.

The main plot seems a little familiar at first, but as long as the chemistry’s there, I won’t care! A woman prepares for her remarriage to the perfect man, a second generation chaebol, but in the midst of those proceedings, she realizes that her divorce from her ex was never legally finalized. So, she has to live a double life, leading two men on, until she gets all this business settled. Sweet Home, Alabama deja vu, anyone?

But then here’s the twist: Her to-be-ex-husband was involved in an accident on his way to the district court to turn in their divorce papers. So he now has amnesia, and doesn’t remember they’re no longer a married couple. The chaebol boyfriend-fiance, played by Kwak Hee-sung (The Best Lover; Hyde, Jekyll, Me), of course has no idea about all of this. He was a bit of a player before he fell in love with her, without knowing her past marriage record. They initially met because she is a furniture designer, and he is the son of the owner of the furniture company.

The actors have all been on the fringes, although I’ve seen Uhm Hyun-kyung a couple of times in side roles that were semi-meaty (such as the hardworking older sister and room salon girl in Good Doctor). I’m not quite sure what to expect of them, but a light rom-com would be nice for the summer.

Wednesday-Thursday rom-com Single Wife will air on DramaX with a tentative premiere date of August 23.

The plot actually seems fresh for a kdrama ? Excited to watch this!

I agree with you. This seems quite different from more recent dramas. Maybe my choice of dramas are not very varied. I know that the amnesia trope is pretty prevalent in dramaland but I don't think I have watched a drama that has used it so I might try this one just to check that off my list.

It is fresh! I want to tune in just for that.

Me too but from this I can't tell who the main male lead is. I need to know so that I can not be afflicted by second lead syndrome, dammit!

I'm betting on the Ex amnesiac Husband. Coz why else would fate intercede in a divorce proceeding and give him amnesia to boot.

I just love that DramaX seems to give underrated actors the chances too. I only saw Sung Hyuk in Jang Bo Ri and recently he cameo in Unni Is Alive, I think he is not bad although I cannot really picture him in romcom. Uhm Hyun Kyung is always good in the supporting roles she do. Hopefully this drama will be something enjoyable to watch because we all need more good romcoms this year.

Yay for DramaX!
I love rooting for the little guys just like when jtbc first started out.
I hope this will be another good show.

Same. And the premise if this drama sounds interesting too. I hope it will be done well.

Oh...he was the big brother in Bride of the Century? I really liked him in that and though he did a nice job. It will be great to see him finally get the girl (if this is going to be like Sweet Home Alabama).
Anyway, the show looks like fun, and I enjoyed 1% of Something, so hopefully this will be a similar fun watch (with some great kisses).

I actually really want to see what this will turn like, especially considering the actors are completely new to me.

Hahaa...definitely coming in for the pretty. I was like oooh who are these pretty new faces haha.

Also, the plot is a mix of interesting tropes that sounds like good old fashioned k drama fun :)

OMG!!! I LOVE Sweet Home Alabama <3
The story seems fresh and interesting, and there will be a lot of SLS and that "Reply" vibes to know who'll be the husband in the end. (But it's okay for me if she decides to keep them both hahaha)
Maybe this is another drama that will make me cheer for the "threesome" relationship (like Chicago Typewriter and Jealousy Incarnate)

I actually haven't seen Sweet Home, Alabama so I had no idea about the kinda similar plot. But the story in this one sounds enticing! Amnesia trope... It's been a while. ?

I recommend the movie for a light, satisfying Hollywood rom-com watch :). It's one of my favorites

I actually kind of love the short running time. It's nice for a rom-com, at least when you have a strong pair at the core, like the one from 1%. I liked how each episode would focus on developing their relationship in a specific way & then move quickly on to the next one without wasting time on unnecessary filler. I do agree that some episodes of 1% could have done with an additional 15 minutes though.

Not sure how Secret Romance is faring with this so far, as the couple didn't draw me in yet. But part of the reason I'm willing to continue with it is because the length makes it a pretty easy watch.

Hahahahaha. This definitely sound fresh for a Kdrama. I'm ready for a rom-com August! Just what I need to be honest. Light and breezy fun. I'm already imagining all the hijinks that will happen, what lies she will tell, what excuse she will come up with when ex meets future husband. This will be fun!

More furniture designers and woodworkers. It's reminding me of THE BEAUTY INSIDE and DISCOVERY OF ROMANCE, at least as far as the professions are concerned.

Right after I read your first sentence I thought Beauty Inside too. This looks like it might be promising.

The first drama that came to my mind was Personal Taste where the female lead was a furniture designer as well.

I'm currently in the middle of falling in love with 1% in a way I never did before while it was airing, so this news came at the right time :) Looking forward to what this new channel can give us, even if their production values aren't the highest. I love how simple and low-key 1% is so it'll be nice to see if they can give us something similar, though technically they just picked that show up for broadcast.

The premise reminds me a bit of a cross between Sweet Home Alabama and 18 vs. 29. In that drama, the female lead gets amnesia on her way to file the divorce papers. But, in that, she forgets they were ever married and it's pretty much a story of Ryu Soo-young getting his wife to fall for him all over again. It's a pretty sweet watch actually.

Yeah, remind me a lot of 18 vs 29. Their high school portion for flashback is so cute. The wife is really adorable

I loved the movie Sweet Home, Alabama... And I really think this drama has potential if well written..

But the big question is: Who we will hope for her to be at the end.

I think is gonna be really hard to watch depending on how they write the two male characters

I hope this will be as cute as 1% of Anything. I have seen them in their previous respective drama and don't have special impression. Who knows it will be their breakout roles.

Interesting... a) pre-marital sex is out of the question and b) post-marital sex is also probably out of the question...

Hard to decide if this is a comedy or tragedy.

Well...if it's any consolation, the previous rom com on the channel (1% of Something) had some pretty hot kisses. So maybe we can look forward to that at least?
