Cast of MBC’s Two Cops gathers for first script read

It’s good to have you back in dramaland, Jo Jung-seok! The cast and crew of MBC’s Two Cops gathered for the show’s first script read at the end of September, and we have our first look at the leads and supporting cast together. Jo Jung-seok (Jealousy Incarnate) is joined by Hyeri (Entertainer), Kim Sun-ho (Strongest Deliveryman), Hoya (Radiant Office), and Lee Shi-un (Reunited Worlds) in the body-swapping crime drama.

To be perfectly honest, I’m mostly looking forward to Jo Jung-seok alternating between two very distinct, polar-opposite personalities. His character, a hardened violent crimes detective, finds himself sharing his own body with the soul of a sleazy con artist. It’s not exactly clear why the con artist, played by Kim Sun-ho, needs a new body for his soul to inhabit, but I can’t wait to watch Jo Jung-seok struggle as the two souls try to coexist. Or not. That might be funnier.

Hyeri will play a strong-willed reporter and love interest to Jo Jung-seok’s detective. It should be pretty funny watching her react to what appears to be his bizarre and extreme mood swings. She’s pretty much the only character in the main cast that doesn’t have a job related to—or are targets of—law enforcement. Like Hoya, who will adorably play Jo Jung-seok’s “office wife” as the youngest member of the veteran detective’s team. Lee Shi-un, on the other hand, plays a gangster on the wrong side of the law, who’s hilariously named Yong Pal-ie. With this cast, I’m really hoping there’s a heavy emphasis on the comedy.

I’m still warming up to the fact that Hyeri will be romanced by Jo Jung-seok, but I generally really like the cast and director Oh Hyun-jong, who most recently helmed Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju. The script is written by rookie screenwriter Byun Sang-soon, who won a competition last year with this show’s screenplay.

Two Cops will follow 20th Century Boy and Girl in MBC’s Monday-Tuesday slot.

Jo Jung-suk is my all-time favorite actor in comedies. Hopefully his romance with Hyeri won't be too jarring.

I love him in basically everything he does especially on stage where he acts and sing.
I hope he'd do more sageuks.

It's hard to make him sing and dance in a drama about cops and criminals but who know XD.
I think I need to give Jealousy Incarnate a rewatch!

It's time for Chef-nim to experience what Bong-sun has been through! Coexisting with a soul? It's more likely than you think.

I'm excited to see my oppa again in dramaland. Same with @tipsymocha, I'm still trying to warm up to the idea of Hyeri as Jo Jung-seok's romantic pairing. But the director gives me hope that he can draw out the best acting out of her. After all, he make Nam Joo-hyuk and Lee Sun-kyung a great pairing in Weightlifting Fairy, when I was quite indifferent to their acting before. Hoping for the best to Two Cops team. Fighting!!

I am pretty sure Nam Joo-hyuk and Lee Sung-kyung needed no help in the romance department...

Oh wow, it's finally happening! My mind is already going places imagining Jo Jung-suk doing radical personality switch between the serious and the sleazy. Throw in Lee Shi-un and Kim Sun-ho, I'm anticipating a comedy ad-lib fest! And Hoya...I'm sad that Infinite is no longer OT7, but everyone deserves to chase their dreams and do what's right for them. All and all, looking forward to see this show!

(Lee Shi-un, why are you standing so far away from Jo Jung-suk and the others...why are you so group photo awkward, lol.)

Hyeri looks super pretty in the photos. Sadly she turned me off in Entertainer. She had zero chemistry with Jisung but was better with Minhyuk. Hope the chemistry is good. As for her acting loved her in reply 1988 but Entertainer was just...
Please be good drama!

Jo Jung-seok! Kim Sun-ho ( double yay)! Sadly, I could not even tolerate Hyeri acting in Entertainer (not even serviceable for me).
I'll still check out the first episode for the two guys at least and go from there.

I wish Hyeri's groupmate, Mina was offered this role instead if there must be from the same idol group. Mina has proved her acting chop in Beautiful Gong-shim and even had great chemistry with Nam Goongmin who was a senior actor.

I'll watch this drama nevertheless. I love Jo Jung-seok and other casts.

I will watch this since Jo Jung-seok is always entertaining. Very good actor.

But Hyeri... she is a huge flaw. Ji Sung is great too, but Entertainer couldn't survive because he was surrounded by crap actors. And the fact that she's again a lead when she should be a minor supporting role at best means this drama could easily suck.

How the heck do you go from Gong Hyo-Jin as your co-lead to Hyeri?

Love Kim Sun Ho and Lee Shi Un. Jo Jung Seok's good in funny roles, but I find his features a bit harsh and didn't always enjoyed his works. Hyeri, definitely not interested. So, may have to pass unless recaps say otherwise.

OMG Jo Jung-seok is baaaaaack!!!!! Took me a second to recognize him with the bang. His character here sounds like the male version of Na Bong-sun in Oh My Ghost. A bipolar Jo Jung-seok's gonna be so fun to watch!! I won't give up a Jo Jung-seok drama just because of Hyeri, no way. Gonna have a watch list full until next year I feel so blessed lol

Quoting "Jung-seok alternating between two very distinct, polar-opposite personalities. His character, a hardened violent crimes detective, finds himself sharing his own body with the soul of a sleazy con artist"
This reminds me of a plot from some old Hindi (Bollywood) movie where a strict hardened cop shares body with a goofy almost crazy guy's soul... something like only he can see him or something... that movie sucked but I hope this won't (fingers crossed)

I'm anticipating all the pretty colours and can't wait to see the colour palette that will be used to film this, because "Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo" was beautifully tones of beautiful tans browns, yellows, and some blues =D
As for the pairing, ehh, not excited nor am I turned off by it XD For me, the age gap in this one doesn't bother me as much, since Jo Jung Seok was paired up with IU before in "You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin" back in 2013, and IU is only a year older than Hyeri, so it could work XD In terms of acting level/gravitas, likewise with this situation here, Ji Sung could have been paired better in "Entertainer" from when that drama was in production, but that just wasn't the case, as is with this drama this time, it is what it is.... Take it or leave it? I loved Hyeri in "Reply 1988" and I honestly thought that it was only because Deoksun was such a relatable character that almost anyone who could have been chosen to portray her would have done a good job, regardless, and Hye Ri DID do a good job, but then she was cast in "Entertainer" with Ji Sung and I just CHOSE not to watch that, even though it had Ji Sung in it, because I just wasn't, and still am not, sure whether or not she's able to take on a role that requires her to act as someone relatively older and more mature than she seems irl, and at the same time, I may or may not tune in for this one, for the same reasons; It's really just a matter of choosing your dramas carefully, and I find all the comments so focused about Hye Ri on here not necessary? Just imo =D

Well, I understand what you're saying to a certain extent. But if everything else about the drama sounds appealing to some viewers and Hye-ri's casting is the only thing bothering them then I don't think it's as simple as Take it or Leave it for everyone.

You're right, I can choose not to watch, but if I have to choose that when Jo Jung-seok is my favorite actor, then I'm going to be disappointed about the reason why I had to come to that decision. Not to mention, I literally wrote posts comparing Kim Sun-ho's performance to Jo Jung-seok's before news broke that they'd be in this together. So there are a lot of things drawing me to this drama and making me want to watch it.

For that reason, I can't help but dwell a bit on wanting a more capable actress. I do that because I care about watching it and I'm choosing to be optimistic that it will still live up to my expectations. But, if Hye-ri still proves that she's not up to the task, then I think I have a right to voice my disappointment.

I really like Jo Jung Seok too, but I'm bummed about Hyeri being his love interest. Not sure if the romance will take a major part of the plot or not...
